Re: Stupid NHL marketing...again
they are playing off the Wrigley Field angle might intrigue non-hockey fans to check it out. Well exactly. If they struck a chord with guys like Screw and the rest of us, they completely whiffed. Fact of the matter is, baseball is an American pastime/sport and it's something the vast majority of Am...

You guys can argue about the weather all you want but just what the fuck was this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJffY2lOFME That little bitch should be skating in a woman's league not the NHL. The Craps can have him. Hahahaa... holy crap, thanks for sharing that one! Even funnier than the barrage...

Re: NHL outlawing playful banter? (Avery suspended 6 games)
You oughtta' hear the average radio guy try to pronounce Dion Phaneuf. Then again, in games I've heard announcers say PAN-uff and FAN-uff....so I don't know myself. JD? Fa-noof, but that oo is as in hood rather than mood. But lately in Calgary we've been pronouncing it, "turnover machine".

Re: NHL outlawing playful banter? (Avery suspended)
Well I think the suspension is more to do with the fact that Avery went hunting for the cameras and went into his obviously-rehearsed speech. Avery was already on thin ice and this was just the thing that put him over the edge with the league. I think they've been waiting for him to give them a reas...

Re: Shoalzie, you on board?
There are enough questions as to why the Lions would do this deal with Culpepper, but I want to know what kind of loser comes out of retirement to join an 0-8 team??? What does Culpepper have to gain by doing this? He might think he can showcase himself and set up an offer in the offseason from a go...

Re: Jim Balsillie vs Gary Bettman
For those Bettman supporters out there, you know the ones that supported his salary cap, no teams in Winnipeg, Quebec City or any more Canadian franchises.. Supporting Bettman's moves and supporting Bettman regardless of what he does are two different things. Teams don't belong in Winnipeg or Quebe...

Re: Offseason '08 Thread
Per TSN, Bertuzzi signs a 1 year deal with Calgary. Now this one is just bizarre. There is probably no NHL city other than Denver that gave Bertuzzi a rougher ride than Calgary. This signing is certainly the talk of the town; Oiler fans are pointing and laughing and Flames fans are universally disg...

PS- I was looking at the weather network and their forcasting that the shit-storm over Edmonoton is finally moving west towards Vancouver. haha... so true. Re: Offseason '08 Thread
A couple of nice moves for the Oilers. Hate seeing it but, but at the same time, it could revive the sagging Battle of Alberta some.
But if they end up giving all that money to Hossa, that would be strange. I would have thought they like their forwards as they are.

Re: Offseason '08 Thread
Visnovsky is pretty expensive too. With Souray already signed for big bucks, the Oilers have some serious cash tied up in their defense. Lowe has the right idea there, but I'm not sure he has the right guys signed for that much money. Stoll will probably light it up in LA the way he did for Edmonton...

Re: Offseason '08 Thread
Interesting....but why the hell are they shopping for forwards? Hoping to only let in 4 goals and score 5-6 yourself in no kind of game plan. Ha... funny because that seemed to be the Oilers plan a couple years ago when they traded away Pronger and stock-piled a bunch of skilled forwards. Obviously...
Re: NHL draft
Well the Flames end up with Cammalleri instead. Essentially the Flames managed to swap Tanguay for Cammalleri, move down a few spots in the 1st round, and save $2M in cap space. Call me pleased! Tanguay just didn't fit in this past year. Word is out today that he asked to be traded at Christmas, say...

just so Gary Roberts can retire on top. Well, he already did that in 1994. Re: Stanley Cup Finals 2008
Well looks like I pretty much called it in terms of how the series would go. But I thought the Penguins would at least be able to score a fuckin goal! Two years in a row now that the western team has made mince meat out of the best the east has to offer. It's actually embarrassing that the Alberta t...

Re: Stanley Cup Finals 2008
Their new arena isn't going to give them more cap space. Malkin is arguably a better player than Crosby this season, they have to pay him accordingly, meaning more than a third of their payroll is allocated to two players. That makes it tough to fill in the supporting cast, but no question those are...

Stanley Cup Finals 2008
Detroit Red Wings vs. Pittsburgh Penguins The NHL gets its dream matchup and waits a freakin week to start it up. Brutal. Not only that, they start it on the US long weekend. Once again this league fails to capitalize on a golden opportunity. But despite the dream matchup, I hate it. I hate both the...

How am I getting carried away? One of the Wings' was holding him up while he swung his stick. That was no love tap. Frustration or not, he wasn't just trying to hit him for the hell of it. Like I said, it wasn't an intent to injure. That's how you're getting carried away. Maybe we have differing de...

Re: 2008 Playoffs - Conference Finals
Intent to injure? Come on, let's not get carried away. It was bad slash out of frustration, but if Ribeiro intended to injure Osgood by slashing him in the chest protector, he's either stupid or thinks he's very strong. He could have done that to me with my $35 shoulder pads on and I bet it wouldn't...

I couldn't believe I was kind of hoping the Flames would be the Sharks in that Game 7 just so the Sharks would've been out of the picture. What a gift it was to face the broken down Avalanche. The Flames would've been an even peskier and even more physical version of Nashville and Kipper would've h...

Re: 2008 Playoffs - Conference Semifinals
I know the Avs went through a lot of injury issues, but I guarantee you the Flames don't duplicate that patheticness had they been the ones to get to the 2nd round. Even last year in the series against the Wings that most would agree was completely one-sided, the Flames stretched it to OT of Game 6....

Long time no see all...
I could go with the keeper thing (option 3), but I admit I am one of the absentee owners. Last I checked, it was maybe a couple weeks into the season and I had yet to win a single category let alone a week. I suck. I was paying more attention to my fantasy football team.

Why does hockey always have to be in line with the other 3 sports? It isn't those sports, and Americans won't embrace hockey as part of their culture the way baseball, basketball and especially football are. That new arena they're building in KC looks like a good place for an exciting young team to come into. Not to mention, an NHL team there would finally give me a reason to go check that city out. Moving the Pens to the Western Conference would be eerily similar to the mid-nineties move of an up-and-c...
