NPR - Utter Rubbish

Post by Shlomart Ben Yisrael »

When exactly did National Public Radio become an extension of the State Department?
Sliding propaganda messages under cover of NSC ghost-written fake news stories...
That's what you right-wing tards claim as a left leaning news outlet?

I noticed a marked decline in objective journalism in your country (that's not saying much)
coinciding with Britain's "Hutton Inquiry". I guess the memo has filtered down completely.

Props on shit reportage and frightened journalists.

NPR is run by hippie, peacnik lefties, not the obnoxiously rabid anti-Bush neo-lefties, like BSmack.

NPR has always been an arm of the Voice of America, Radio Free Europe. It entices socalist wannabes but makes capitalists of them when NPR needs donations and people understand the value of their money.
With all the horseshit around here, you'd think there'd be a pony somewhere.

PBS in general is being put under tremendous pressure by the raving batshit right wing. Nothing new whatsoever. They won't rest until they have remade all of America in their image.

The World Service is its own entity, not affiliated with NPR.

"PBS in general is being put under tremendous pressure..."

A 25% cut in funding next year and complete funding cut the following year
isn't "pressure". It's a death sentence.

Job well done, American "lefties". Taking it in the pooper so gallantly.

I thought Bush wanted a police state. Shouldn't he then be taking over PBS to make it into Republican State Television?

Yeah excellant, also on shortwave. I'm just thinking it's the only available foreign information source that's broadcast nationally, without domestic interpretation. If a goverment wanted to truly sway public opinion - access to outside information has to be completely cut.

Actually, Sirius has FoxNews, but it's just the audio of their TV broadcast. The only show that's even listenable that was is O'Reilly. The rest of them bicker to much with guests and are too difficult to follow with just sound.

NPR doesn't "carry" the World Service, dipshit. Many local affiliates that carry NPR during the day carry the WS over night.

Well, why should I purchase a reciever and pay twenty fulas a month for BBC on Sirius when I can listen for free with a ***GRUNDIG BRAND SHORTWAVE RADIO***? (patent pending)

To me that seems wasteful and frivolous!

And Mr Bushice, would you please ask RadioFan how he manages to avoid injuring himself when leaping from meltdown to meltdown?

I'd ask him myself but he's being a pedantic HelenKellerCunt today.

It's a perceived meltdown on your part. From Radiofans perspective it is merely a post submission.

What you have is a variant of the DrD syndrome, which is where you think your arguments are so compelling you get over on everyone everytime, you are correct 100% of the time, and everyone elses opinion is wrong.

There is a simple cure for it, though. Don't take yourself so seriously.

I know I don't. ;)

The government should sell the damn thing. Government funding represents only about 15% of the Public Broadcasting Corp's total revenue.

This fight over whether public broadcasting is independent, right, left, or otherwise demonstrates quite perfectly that the government shoud not be involved in this enterprise at all.

Sell it and move on.

FTFY

Mass consumption drives our economy. The act of selling things to us is not always within our best interest (see obese children watching McDonald's ads).

PBS' budget equals maybe a few weeks in Iraq. If you asked the taxpayers if they'd rather have PBS or weeks in Iraq, what do you think they would prefer?

It's not an issue of whining, it's objective criticism. Take Bill Moyer's for instance. How many different times do you want me to post some liberal claptrap bullshit of his? I've only done it multiples of times...

Bottomline is that the government shouldn't be in this broadcasting business. And the reason the left is fighting that so hard is because it's one of the primary news outlets that they directly control.

No, you don't control all the news outlets, just the public broadcasting corporation.

You know I just mentioned Bill Moyers...he lives on at PBS.

Exhibit A of a liberal bias at PBS is still the program Now, first hosted by Bill Moyers, and now by David Brancaccio. On Friday night, the blatantly partisan ghost of Moyers was still hanging over the broadcast as Brancaccio led off by linking House Majority Leader Tom DeLay to slavery: “The ethical questions dogging Majority Leader Tom DeLay continue to grow. Have his favors to lobbyists led him from family values to supporting virtual slavery?”

Virtual slavery???

How about PBS's Nina Totenberg??

Play this game with liberal friends: name one Democratic politician or liberal nominee who's ever had their career stopped or mangled by public broadcasting.

Remember that NPR's Nina Totenberg destroyed Douglas Ginsburg's nomination to the Supreme Court, and almost destroyed Clarence Thomas with Anita Hill's still-unproven allegations. Were they rough on Clinton? PBS's idea of being tough on the Clintons was the "Frontline" on "Hillary's Class," or the "Frontline" with seven liberals (and no conservatives) exploring why Clinton wasn't liberal enough.

But Totenberg sat on her notebook for months in 1994 when Paula Jones charged Bill Clinton with sexual harassment until Jones officially filed suit. Then she rushed onto NPR and said Jones was greedy: "One sister says she was interested in money. Anita Hill never asked for money." She never mentioned that Hill, despite telling the Senate she had no plans to cash in, had landed a million-dollar book deal. When Juanita Broaddrick came forward in 1999 and said Bill Clinton had raped her, Nina Totenberg and "All Things Considered" aired nothing.

In 1993, Nina went on NPR and bitterly complained that the Clinton White House wouldn't let her interview her liberal "quota queen" friend Lani Guinier before her Justice Department nomination failed, because "they were interested in burying her." (No editorializing there?) While Bill Moyers ran a "Frontline" cutely titled "High Crimes and Misdemeanors" to suggest Ronald Reagan should be impeached, does anyone remember how Nina Totenberg almost got Clinton impeached? She didn't. She was busy suggesting Kenneth Starr shouldn't have the Lewinsky portfolio because of his consultation with a lawyer for Paula Jones, the woman Totenberg usually ignored.

Explain. Seems awful fair to me. I'm even looking for the bias and don't see it. Is it that fact that they bring up the possibility of alternative fuels that is biased. Is the President's religious leanings a topic only to commie pinkos?

You can get a receiver right now for $50 (with the rebate gimmick) and it only costs $12/month.

You're not paying $12/month for the BBC, my red friend, you also get three NPR channels, CNBC, BBCMundo (for mvscal :D ), the NFL network, ESPN radio, all of the NBA games, all of the NFL games, major college football and basketball games, 100 music channels that don't just repeat the same list of songs every hour and Howard Stern in December. Man, I should work in sales. :D

Granted though, with a 40-mile commute each way, I do a lot of driving. If I didn't spend roughly two hours in the car every day, I wouldn't have it.

I've just looked into it, but world news seems to be lacking. Fine for your car I suppose, but - if your master permits you the radio at your job, news via shortwave is tough to beat...
