Sure. Some Guard unit would want to take on lesser numbered private citizen militia,exercising there 2nd Amendment rights, 30% of that militia were veterans most likely. Both sides armed and outfitted well. Probably a straight up fair fight. So much for your hope to silence them that quickly.

Kent State on the other hand, where a well armed and semi well trained Guard unit in some good numbers goes in to quell a 1st Amendment protest by a much larger, unarmed and completely untrained group of stoned college students. Yeah, seems like a fair fight to me.

Worried about more unrest, Satrom asks the governor, James Rhodes, to mobilize the Ohio National Guard. When Guardsmen begin arriving on the Kent State campus that evening, they find the school’s Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) building has been set on fire. A crowd of some 1,000 people surround the building, many of them cheering and confronting firefighters to prevent them from extinguishing the blaze. Using tear gas and bayonets, the National Guardsmen clear the campus by midnight, ordering students into their dorms.

Things just got worse after that. And, I'm not sure if you are aware of recent (2010) analysis of audio evidence related to the shootings. They do not get much attention.

The entire situation is tragic. One of my sons attended Kent State for a year before transferring to Ohio State. We went to the memorial and saw the layout of the land. This didn't happen in a vacuum. An ROTC building had been burned to the ground, and bottles and rocks and all kinds of other shit had been hurled at the guardsmen. And there was apparently some crazy fucker with a handgun popping off rounds before the volley of shots by the guardsman. That doesn't justify shooting into a crowd by any means. But you can see how something awful like that could happen.

Amazing how the fake news press covered that up.
