Good theater, and really aren't we all somehow fascinated by genuine sociopaths? Like this son of a hooknosed parasite radical commie, or the equally narcissistic daughter of a fallen Enron exec--and her ragingly insane Indian daddy/boyfriend--jury selection presently underway? Somehow the spectacularly criminal and cunning are ever entertaining. The best part of the judge's blistering dressdown was delivered after the verdict was read--and it had clearly been a carefully composed delivery--when in response to the defense lawyers asking for a stay of sentence (??), he dropped a well-placed bomb, "though the wheels of Justice move slowly, its heavy Hammer comes due!" I paraphrase, but it was a great rejoinder that at least allowed him to retain some dignity in light of the slight sentence.

For his part, Smollett's most insane line--by far--was, "If I did this it meant I stuck my fist in the fears of black Americans in this country for over four hundred years.."
