Our policy needs to be that we’ve tapped a sufficient number of wells that when some foreign asshole shuts off the tap or we shut it off for him via sanctions, these taps can be opened to maintain supply.

I am not saying we need to extract all this oil. That would be dumb when it can be bought cheaply elsewhere. But we need to have them ready to go.

A little extra production right about now would be nice.

It would help with prices as it would get the production to a refinery faster. But make no mistake that product is coming out of the ground now. Some of it gets trucked to refining. Some of it on trains and some on the existing longer smaller pipeline.

In the fucked up green world killing a pipeline is good because they assume that raw product doesn’t make it to market. Instead it just goes by fossil fuel burning methods vs a pipeline. And while the pumps might use some fossil fuels, it is far less than trucks or trains.

The short cut and expansion would probably have a small impact on production, but it would have a significant impact on transportation costs of the product.

Moving it by pipeline is likely the most efficient, although you could make an argument for rail, assuming the rail is already in place and the pipeline isn’t. Added points to rail if it is an electrified line, which it almost certainly isn’t.

Pipeline is without a doubt the safest.
