Re: Padres
Definitely put themselves in position to make a run...for the next several years.
Re: Padres
Catching the Dodgers, at this point, would be almost impossible. But they could do some damage in the post season.

Re: Padres
Didn't wanna see that happen. Having Soto, Tatis, & Machado in the lineup is pretty impressive but I hope it doesn't work out for them.
Wonder if the Dodgers will make a run at Ohtani. Probably not since the price tag is so high, but Arte Moreno is such an idiot that he may unload him at a cost Friedman is willing to pay.

Re: Padres
Don’t forget they also picked up Josh Bell from the Nats, and Brandon Drury from the Reds. Drury has 20 HR, but will probably fill a utility role with the Pads.
Within the next couple of weeks you will likely see this lineup:
Tatis
Soto
Machado
Bell
Cronenworth
Profar
Myers
Alfaro/Nola
Grisham
Profar had 7 hits in yesterday’s doubleheader, and Grisham hit 2 HRs including a walk off in game 2, giving Josh Hader (our new closer) the win.
The Dodgers have a great team but, like I said, it should be interesting.

Re: Padres
The only solace I can take is that they still are, and will always be, the Padres.

Re: Padres
LOL I get that. As a lifetime non-LA Californian (first in the Bay Area and now in San Diego) my main sentiment in sports has always been Beat Fuck the Dodgers, whoever can do it. Hopefully the meaning of ”Padre” in the near future will be, to the Dodgers and all their fans, more like “Your Daddy.”

Re: Padres
Until then, they’re still the Madres, more like “Yo mama.”

Re: Padres
With all the hype about Soto and Bell it was Drury who hit a first inning grand slam on the first pitch he saw as a Padre.
Re: Padres
Damn. Still the Dodgers’ bitch.
I guess it’s inevitable. :?![Rolling Eyes :meds:](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

Re: Padres
I doubt that any of the current Dodgers ever met Vin Scully. Maybe Kershaw.

Re: Padres
Then tell me. What’s the point?
Does the ghost of Vin Scully have some kind of supernatural influence over a bunch of guys, most of whom probably never even heard of him before maybe 2019?
Re: Padres
Looks more like spumoni to me.
Re: Padres
A) Emotions have a lot to do with sports.
B) Retired 6 years ago so your premise flawed.

Re: Padres
Why would Dodgers players who have likely never or rarely heard VS call a game work up an iota of emotion for him?

Re: Padres
Can you? It's a valid question. Apparently you do think that Vin has some kind of supernatural powers in the afterlife. You're starting to act like LTS TARD.
And please explain how the fact that he'd been retired for 6 years invalidates my premise. Seems like it would make it even stronger.

Re: Padres
Because most of the current Dodger team is older than 6 maybe? The youngest dude was 17, oldest was 28. So what you are saying is 17-28 yo guys who play baseball for a living just happened to miss the retirement of one of if not the great announcer in baseball history. This would include 6 guys born in CA and a few born right in LA. Hell I know who Red Barber and I wasn’t even born in NY. Your ASSumtion is silly.

Re: Padres
Watching some old fogey retire doesn't inspire/endear anyone. Years of listening to VS call games does. The younger portion of those players didn't do that, and that's if they were even raised in socal. What you're positing is absurd.

Re: Padres
Way to move the goal posts. First it was they never heard of him, now that I have proved that isn’t true you decide they didn’t care. You say this even though Chris Taylor and others specifically said they did care. That they did know it was Vin Scully night, that they did notice the fans were more electric and that they did watch the video of Vin before the game and that there was a playoff atmosphere.

Ouch
I know I've been having fun so far.The next couple of months should be interesting.
This past weekend made it a smidgen tougher.Catching the Dodgers, at this point, would be almost impossible.

Ha ha! And this is just the morale boost the Giants needed to make their move.
