I have not watched the whole speech, but I think he's done reasonably well. No, not perfect, and no doubt there will be snippets shown later where he didn't pronounce a word properly. Whatever.

But he has not merely read off of the teleprompter, there definitely have been ad lib moments, and I think he's demonstrated that he's absolutely in command.

That said, I hope he decides to retire after one term. It is time for a new generation of leaders.

We needed him to restore sanity in the office, and to prevent another disastrous term of his predecessor. He has done that, and history will hold him in high regard for that.

But again, it is time for the next generation of leaders. Thank you, Mr. President, you've served your country well, and you can finish your last two years strong.

I remember this moment and thought at the time it was a huge political gift to Trump and that Trump would use it as a centerpiece to point out the level of outright sabotage the dems took part in to get rid of The Bad Orange Man.

But the reps pretty much ignored it during the campaign.

I will admit that Trump could have handled everything after the election better. It was too late to "stop the steal". The time to stop it was before it happened. Sadly, he and the Reps got out-lawyered badly all throughout 2020. Or, perhaps out-judged is a more accurate term.

But, he did not foist an insurrection. He specifically asked for a PEACEFUL protest. What we had was a, to use MSNBC terms, a "mostly peaceful" protest. There were definitely some criminal assholes present, who should and will, have the book thrown at them. But this was in no way an "insurrection". I would ask you do you think Nancy failed by purposely NOT beefing up security?

She knew there'd be a shit-show and that it would not look good for Trump. She greased the rails for this "insurrection".
