Those pics of the bridge made me think the same thing. The Ren Fairy strikes again.

Please explain what reasonable cause Penny had to believe that this guy was violent.

Holding someone down is fine. Using deadly force where it isn't warranted isn't.
That's not how deadly force is justified. SYHTFOTWRiders were likely familiar with his violent outbursts and assaults. He regularly assaulted subway patrons.

I've heard that Muscle Shoals has got The Swampers. They've been known to pick a song or two.Booger wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 11:44 pmPlenty to do here. Some of the most beautiful roads anywhere for riding motorcycles.

Exactly. People are fed up with being victimized by violent criminals. Pussies sitting there allowing women and/or kids (or Mulvaneys) to be abused or robbed or killed need to stay home. Decent people try to protect innocents. Damn shame the guy died, but I’m sure the Sharptons of the city would have raised hell even if Neely had survived.Meat Head wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 11:33 pm Ya fuk around the subways being an ass hole and bothering people long enough, you will get corrected. Legal or not it will happen. And apparently citizens standing up to this shit is the only remedy, as lawlessness creeps [jumps] forward.
I don't like it but welcome to reality.
Or that Armenian chick what's her name? Cherilyn Sarkisian? Where is she from again?

Got an LP by a band called Black Rose that she’s in. Her and her boyfriend, Les Dudek. I bought it as a curiosity…don’t recall ever listening to it!
You don’t live in NYC so you don’t know wtf you are talking about. These mentally ill people are all over the place and especially like to clog up the subways on a regular basis. Being stuck in a captive space with a lunatic who is harassing others, spouting randomly about hurting/killing other people, usually in the company of elderly people and young children is enough to cause severe concern but unfortunately is all too common in this rotting shithole. I have witnessed this kind of situation first-hand, many New Yorkers have. What is typical is having to “wait out” the situation in hopes that the crazy person does not escalate to physical harm or violence (which I have also witnessed first hand in the subway more than once). That’s bullshit. This marine stepped in and saved passengers from who-knows-what, the mentally ill person had more than 40 counts of prior history. It was unfortunate he died but letting a crazy person loose without knowing what he will do when released is warranted. If this hero hadn’t stepped in, the lunatic would have just skipped off to the next train and continued the same shit, likely may have hurt someone that day or the next. He was only a victim of his own behavior, which he is not absolved from just because he is mentally ill.Diego in Seattle wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 10:55 pmPlease explain what reasonable cause Penny had to believe that this guy was violent.
Please explain how Penny was justified to use a choke hold, a hold that has been banned from LE for many years.

Seriously? 10+ years ago you were here visiting? You really have no clue what you’re talking about.Diego in Seattle wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 11:31 am I visited NYC in 2012 & rode the subways many times.
Your lack of an answer to my posting of the legal aspect of this incident is duly noted.L45B wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 12:20 pmSeriously? 10+ years ago you were here visiting? I lived here 10 years ago and the subways were in fact safe to ride.
Throw in the Covid situation in 2020 and ever since, the loonies have been running the tunnels. Throw in all the ‘defund the police’ bullshit and it means that the police don’t really give a fuck. There’s barely any police presence in the subways and the criminals .. errrr .. mentally ill know it and know they can get away with harassment and pull this shit all the time.
I’ve heard many little old ladies on the bus claim they’ll never ride the subway again until the crime gets cleaned up, which given the way the city votes, won’t be happening any time soon. The only hope is someone is there to save you when you need it, and most New Yorkers don’t step in to help because of exactly what this brave marine is dealing with now.

I've been on NYC subways a fair number of times.Diego wrote:I visited NYC in 2012 & rode the subways many times. Never had a problem with anyone. Didn't even consider needing to apply either a choke hold or a sleeper hold.

Poor NYC police. When the chief pig ERRR mayor isn't raiding the city budget to throw more cash at the police or allowing NYC police to beat the shit out of protestors, they actually have to do work? OMG, how dare anyone suggest that.
There's no allowances in the law for "he or she MIGHT flip out."Softball Bat wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 12:46 pmDiego wrote:I visited NYC in 2012 & rode the subways many times. Never had a problem with anyone. Didn't even consider needing to apply either a choke hold or a sleeper hold.
It was a pretty unpleasant 15 seconds, and in that time, I was not sure if it was going to escalate into something physical.
A mental case flip out can happen at any time on a NYC subway.

True.Diego in Seattle wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 11:14 pm There's no allowances in the law for "he or she MIGHT flip out."
I’m not excusing Penny’s actions entirely. But does anyone really believe he intended to kill the guy? You would think the two other persons helping to restrain Neely would have suggested Penny ease up if they thought he was potentially going to die.Screw_Michigan wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 11:28 pm Sorry Sam. I was simply using your sentence to point out to others that someone having a mental episode does not rise to the level of justifying deadly force, not that you were justifying the use of it.Softball Bat wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 2:10 amRight.Diego in Seattle wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 11:14 pmThere's no allowances in the law for "he or she MIGHT flip out."
I agree.
I was just responding to your post about you having not had any issues during the times you rode the subway in NYC.
Incidents involving mental cases can (and do) happen at any random time.
And it is not hard to see how things can escalate into a physical confrontation very quickly.
