Titanic tourist submersible goes missing with search under way
A massive search and rescue operation is under way in the mid Atlantic after a tourist submarine went missing during a dive to Titanic's wreck on Sunday. Contact with the small sub was lost about an hour and 45 minutes into its dive, the US Coast Guard said. Tour firm OceanGate said all options were being explored to rescue the five people onboard. Tickets cost $250,000 (£195,000) for an eight-day trip including dives to the wreck at a depth of 3,800m (12,500ft). Government agencies, the US and Canadian navies and commercial deep-sea firms are helping the rescue operation, officials said.
On Monday afternoon, Rear Adm John Mauger of the US Coast Guard told a news conference: "We anticipate there is somewhere between 70 and the full 96 hours available at this point."
Hamish Harding, a 58-year-old British billionaire businessman and explorer, is among those on the missing submarine, his family said.
On social media at the weekend, Mr Harding said he was "proud to finally announce" that he would be aboard the mission to the wreck of the Titanic - but added that because of the "worst winter in Newfoundland in 40 years, this mission is likely to be the first and only manned mission to the Titanic in 2023".
He later wrote: "A weather window has just opened up and we are going to attempt a dive tomorrow."

Oh the irony!
Darwin certainly approves!
He certainly does. Hopefully no one on the submersible reproduced.

You are truly one of the worst pieces of shit to ever post on this board. Start giving up your paycheck for reparations now and then you can shut the fuck up about your racist blasts.

They went deep and quiet to avoid a close aboard with a Luna class destroyer. What you've gotta do in these situations is you trust the captain, you trust the crew.
Their guts are splattered all over the ocean floor and they didn't feel a thing.
That's a fukked up link trying to force an app on the user. Some top drawer shit level marketing going on there. Did you even click it much less read it?
Every rich guy wants a libertarian paradise until he needs two different militaries to do a search & rescue operation, and then we should all chip in for public services, right?

Jack up taxes on the rich to save them from themselves.

It's good training. What the fuck else are they supposed to be doing?

I hope they have sense enough to leave a video recorder going.
To watch the action.

Being available for emergency calls made by much more responsible people, for starters.

How the fukk did this thing not have some sort of transponder on board that could at least make it clear where they were?
Deep sea exploration carried out by people with cost is no object safety precautions is very risky.
Doing it in a commercial enterprise that needs to show a profit is suicidal. This is not a critique of capitalism, just pointing out that doing insanely dangerous things on the cheap is a bit silly.

That's not the way that search and rescue works, dumbfuck.
This is also a far from routine scenario. There are very few real world opportunities to conduct this sort of operation and the experience is invaluable.

So we should be splurging taxpayer dollars on rescuing billionaires from their own stupidity & negiligence, but...."welfare queens!!"
“Left Seater” wrote:So charges are around the corner?
We aren't "splurging," you fucking idiot. Those people and their equipment are already on the payroll with the task of search and rescue...which is what they are doing.

Actually it was, you’re just too stupid to realize it.
