Fat fucks thread update.
Stumbled into the food forum this morning and read through the over 15 year old fat fukk thread. Was gonna make a comment there, but nobody goes in there, so I'll start one over here.
First off, I am on the correct side of 220 for the first time in the 21st century!!!!!! I was 216 this morning.
Well, I was briefly below 220 for about 15 minutes in 2001 when i needed to lose weight to get back into the Navy reserve.
So, how did I get here?
A couple of factors.
The new GF is adamant about making healthy meals, especially lunches. I rarely eat fast food garbage during the day. This was gooding for the first 10-15 lbs, but just eating better always fails in the end because your body eventually adjust metabolism to compensate for lower calorie intake.
What does work is intermittent fasting. It is by far the easiest way to lose weight. Just skip breakfast, eat lunch late, if at all.
IF or time restricted feeding works because it gives your body a period of time each day where your insulin levels are low enough to put your body into fat burning mode. If you eat something, even a little, every 3 or 4 hours, your insulin levels remain high which inhibit's your body's ability to access your fat stores.
I used to think the fasting claims were bullshit as do many, because we were all sold the same propaganda about how you need to eat frequiently to keep up your energy. It is 100% bullshit.
Watch some podcasts by Jason Fung on the topic. It is very informative and makes complete sense.

Congrats on your weight loss. I was down to 202 about 10 months ago after I really bumped up my workouts and was closely watching what I ate. I had a medical procedure in February, which put me on the shelf for over a month as far as using the rowing machine, and haven't been able to come back up to speed. Part of my New Year's resolutions though. I'm up to about 214, which is still 20 lb below where I was a couple of years ago., I was really hoping to get below 200 but didn't quite make it.
Not gonna do intermittent fasting, or any kind of fad diets. I went on the Atkins diet about 20 years ago and lost a bunch of weight but it came right back as soon as I started eating bread and fruit again. The combination of healthy eating, on a regular schedule, and regular exercise works will enough.

IF is how we evolved. We did not eat 3 or 4 times a day. We ate when we could and got by on fat stores the rest of the time.
He does a good job of explaining why eating through out the day fails in the end. And why intermittent fasting works.
It is very easy especially for life long g fatties like you and I who never saw a piece of bread we didn’t like.

BTW, I had the Rona right before Xmas.
It was about a day and a half of very mild congestion.
Wimpiest cold I’ve ever had.
Had my GF not just had CV I would t have even tested for it.

I’m 45 and had my first child at 44, so 2023 was an adjustment for me. One riddled with picking up bad eating habits and not enough sleep. I put on the weight, so I’m on a New Year’s Resolution kick. It’s just diet and exercise and goals. It’s really about developing systems and good habits in my life that can keep all of this chaos of a demanding job, two teenage bonus kids and a one-year old, and going back to school to get my masters under control.
I shot up to 229 so I’m on a very strict diet to cut 20-25lbs in 30 days.
Breakfast: egg whites, black beans, and raw spinach
Lunch: fish, chicken, or pork with raw spinach
Dinner: fish, chicken or pork with lentils or beans and asparagus, broccoli, or cauliflower.
Zero fruit on the diet, but I do get to enjoy one glass of wine a night.
I’m down to 224 after 4 days.
Exercise consists of crunches, fast pace walks, jogging, and jumping jacks.
Want to get to 200 and then work on a more balanced diet after that.
Reading “Atomic Habits” to get myself right after having a baby.

Or you could acquire a condition like I have (gastroenterologist said he sees 2 or 3 cases a year) where I struggle now to keep weight on. I exercise like a mofo and eat like crazy to stay at 175. It’s a bitch to retain food for any length of time.

It’s not caloric restriction. I get a ton of calories from beans and almonds. The reduced red meat and removing the breads and potatoes is what is putting my body into shock and working this fat off.
This morning was three eggs (1 whole egg) a cup of lentils and a cup of spinach. For lunch, two tilapia filets, a cup of red beans and sausage, and asparagus. Had about 12 almonds a few minutes ago.
I will have a cheat day each week that will shock my body again and keep my metabolism from slowing down. I’m going to stick to this and then move gradually into something a little more balanced.

The Ergata looks like a nice machine. Should give you a great workout. I have a Concept2 that I bought in 1995 and still using it. A little more basic than the Ergata but it’s been sort of the standard for decades. I’ve replaced a lot of the moving parts and foot pads and stuff over years but it still works like new. I think I’ve put something like 30 million meters on it.
