Weekend Roll Call 12-23-23
Happy Festivus Fuckers!
Very unseasonably warm temps to start the holiday weekend
ending with a chance of snow Monday and Tuesday and much
cooler temps here in FOC with lots of clouds and rain in between.
Not ideal for grill biz, but I will roll with it, and make the best
of it. Xmas bs will side track me a little, but we will be getting
that out of the way early tomorrow morning, and I will likely
get a little sideways later in the evening. We decided to change
things up a little this year. The last 6 years, we have hosted the
entire fam on Xmas day and serve a giant feast at noon. Vaghub
and I both, have to work our asses off before, during and after.
All the ungrateful fucks come, eat, get their shit, stay too long,
and finally leave, with most not offering to help do a damn thing.
We typically don't do shit on Xmas eve as that's when the extended
family is off with others .. spouses fams, ex-spouses fams, etc.
With the way the days fell this we opted to squeeze in a 10 to noon
window for everyone. No big spread. Rolls, juice, coffee.
Here's a roll, juice, your gift, now beat it! I have high hopes for
this method and may well repeat it in years to come.
Chiefs game on Monday at noon ... that's weird, but needing to
whoop some raiduh ass to wrap up another division title. Lots
of other great games on today, tomorrow and Monday also.
Perfect distractions that will allow you to ignore many of
the holiday annoyances.
Speaking of annoyances, I referenced this in a rare weekday
post this week..... why is Asshole Extraordinaire back posting
his drivel? Put that prick back in time out. His bullshit schtick
is old, tired and played out. Dude has absolutely no sense of
humor and has sucked more bbc than all the whores on Pornhub
times two.
It's the holiday season and I am in a giving mood,
so you get not one, but two memes this week.
You can never go wrong with a ree ree meme:
and as always, if I am not at least attempting to offend someone
then I am not doing my job:
Happy long weekend, Y'all.

IN. Will be celebrating with Mrs.O. Our younger daughter daughter and family were going to be here, but one of my granddaughters is ill so they had to put it off. Mrs.O and I will have a lot of turkey left over for sure.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.

I’ve been digging up plants, feeding birds and deer, helping neighbor with trimming out his new addition to his house, and licking the beaters and bowl after my wife made rum cakes for several neighbors. Saw the end of Troy- Duke. Finished reading my new Tull book. Delivered a few presents to kids around here. I’m done.
Gonna catch some of Utah-Northwestern.
Wife’s family will be here tomorrow. Monday is MY day. Kicking back and listening to tunes as long and as loud as I fucking want to!
Merry Christmas to all you fuckers.

Merry Christmas, everyone!
Matthew 1:20-21
20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.

Merry Christmas...most of you ;)
We came up to Davenport, IA on Friday evening and head back Christmas Day evening. It's only a 4 1/2 hour drive. Sure beats the 13 hour drives we used to do with overnight stays. And that's if there isn't a massive snowstorm closing interstates which is exactly what is going on tonight.
My brother, his wife, and their three girls, my sister and her husband, and now my parents all live here in Davenport.
Kinda cashed in this year. Got $200 in Amazon gift cards, boys got Minecraft crap. Wife and I got a nice check from my parents from a leftover inheritance.
I'm subjected to watching the shitty-ass NFL because my mom is still a Broncos fan. She loves watching for the "love of the game."
Enjoy the weekend!

We had my daughter and my son and his wife’s family over for an early Christmas dinner last night. Eight people total. The only pictures I have of the food are before and after pics of the 11 lb prime rib roast. This came out a perfect medium rare with a nice crust on the outside. Last week I invested in a wireless Bluetooth probe thermometer that gave me a notice on my phone when the temperature hit 125 deg.
Went out in the yard and picked some cuttings for the wife to make some centerpieces. Here are two of them. These are made from two native California plants - toyon (or California holly, or Christmas berry) and Tecate cypress. Toyon used to be common all up and down within a few hundred miles of the coast, especially in the LA area before most of the wild landscapes were destroyed by development, and people used to use it all the time for Christmas decorations. It got so bad that in the 1920s they passed a law making illegal to poach cuttings from public land or private property without explicit permission from the owners. We’re lucky enough to have probably a couple dozen on our property. Tecate cypress is endemic to a small area in southeast San Diego County, but we’ve been growing them here too.

The PR looks perfect, Mikey!
Had a great time with the fam this weekend. We had a low key dinner with my parents at Hersay on the Green Christmas Eve night. We then took the kids to the park and watched people ice skate for the first time.
Yesterday was spent with my bonus kids side of the family. I made another prime rib, sautéed some fresh green beans with olive oil, garlic, Irish butter, salt & pepper. I also made a chocolate pie. We had a nice spread and a great time.
My 1-year old had a blast. She’s still passed out upstairs in our bed.

Re: Weekend Roll Call 12-23-23
Nice photo, Rumps.
Someone put the Chefs out of their misery already. Zero targets for Mahomes to throw at and that is compounded by shitty playcalling and subaverage play from Mahomes himself. He spends a lot of time yelling at others when he should probably be yelling at himself. Chef offensive line is pretty crappy too, Duh front eight was all over Mahomes yesterday and in his face.
Chefs will be an easy out in the first round of the playoffs. They'll be lucky to not be an underdog at home.

Beautiful kid, Rumps. She’s at a magical age. Enjoy it while it lasts!
We had dinner last night at my brother in law’s house with his extended family. More prime rib lol. It was great but we usually eat beef maybe once or twice a month these days. I’ve got a couple of meals worth of leftovers from Saturday in the fridge. I think I may need to go 100% vegan for a couple of weeks.
It was funny watching the Chiefs get punked by the ‘duhs. I’ve been getting sick of seeing them all over the media lately, especially Mahomes, Kelce, Reid and Swift. So it was particularly gratifying, after Mahomes’s recently well documented mini-tantrums to see him give up two TDs in seven seconds, basically on his own.
Not going to discuss the Niners from last night.

I was forced to watch that game at my folks' house in Davenport. We celebrated Christmas there this weekend.HighPlainsGrifter wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 3:14 amBumpkcdave wrote:Chiefs game on Monday at noon ... that's weird, but needing to

I spent the whole game laughing my ass off! What the hell was that? A high school game? These guys get paid MILLIONS per game and yet play like they should have never made their high school team! What a great ROI and then there's the fans who spend thousands just to be there and look what they get in return. Buncha chumps.
We thought about making a drinking game of it and doing a shot anytime they showed or mentioned or hinted at anything Swift related. But we had to be back on the road and back here to STL later in the evening so probably not a good idea.

They have gone overboard with safety measures, and btw, QBs have gone down in large quantities this year. Coincidence?
THERE ARE NO COINCIDENCES!
There are hardly any kick returns.
Tackling is quite poor.
Just a lot of bad/mediocre pro football being played.

The NFL has been promoting mediocrity for some time.
The powers that be won’t be happy ‘til every team finishes 8-9 or 9-8.
I hope an under .500 division winner makes it to the Stupor Bowl.
Most pro games are unwatchable.

Amen.
Need to go back to 14 game season, with 2 untelevised preseason games.
Only ONE wildcard from each conference.
Parity sucks.
Sports are just reflective of our DEI-based, non-meritocratic culture.
Everyone gets a trophy, errr...wildcard spot.
While we're at it, chop the NCAA bowl games from 40 to 15 like it used to be.

Unfortunately, they will take it up to 18 games in the near future.Sven wrote:Need to go back to 14 game season
That was a given as soon as they took the step to raise the number of games to 17.

How the fuck did your myopic pea-sized little brain come up with this? This has nothing to do with “DEI” (do you even know what that is, besides bad woke commies?) and everything to do with maximizing profits. More games + more contendahs = more TV money.Sven Golly wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 4:50 pm

Not sure why I would expect anything different coming from you, though. If our culture was based on “meritocracy” you’d be bailing out my septic tank on a daily basis. So carry on, a board needs its dumbasses.

So what do you do aside from a salary cap and a draft? You become the Premier League, where seven teams have won the title since inception. They're stuck in the loop and can't get out of it.

You don't think the endless parade of "end racism" platitudes in the end zones and on helmets aren't reflective of DEI?
And I get it that it's about $$$ - that doesn't mean the product is better.
Throwing good money after bad is what it is.
College football is following the same trajectory.
Re: Weekend Roll Call 12-23-23
And how, exactly, does that diminish the quality of play on the field? Heaven forbid that a league whose players are more than 50% black should project anti-racist values. Maybe the NFL should reflect the US population percentages. I mean, we need to be fair, right? Equity and all.
So there should be maybe 6-7 % black players. That’s about right for the male black population in this country.
That is if we wanna be fair…
