Left/Right Arguments
We redirect every damn subject to a left/right argument.
I’m as guilty as anyone. Maybe moreso. And I don’t like who I appear to be in here. Not so much being right of center, but being combative and a smartass. I’ve been thinking about this for a good while and, while I’m concerned that this post might be a mistake, I can live with this easier than I can with who it seems I am on this board.
I’m the least argumentative guy you could meet. I hate confrontation and conflict. My job entails diplomacy and calming pissed clients. I’ve played the diplomat role most of my life. Yet, in here, I find myself calling people stupid and cunts or stupid cunts. That’s not me. I don’t like it. I retain a lot of my younger days liberal thinking, but you’d never know it reading my posts in here. I’ve definitely moved to the right, but I’m open to ideas that don’t jibe with my own. In the real world, I never get into intense arguments over politics. I welcome thinking that differs from my own. As I’ve said before, most of the people I see daily are from other parts of the world and I love discussing their cultures and asking about their families and their homes.
I figure Bill in Houston is likely someone I’d enjoy watching a football game with. Mikey and I may have led parallel lives albeit a country apart. Other than the MGMT thing , Screwy’s a good guy. I can’t imagine we’d all argue like idiots if we ran into one another.
Fuck it. I’ve gone this far, so…
I intend to continue intently discussing matters, but no more name calling, no more denigration of posters from me. Give me hell, call me whatever, but I am going to try to be civil. The lack of civility and respect for one another is tearing this country apart and I’m gonna try to do my small part in eradicating that. I may not make it thru the day, but I’m fairly certain I can stick to this. I’m not suggesting this conduct should be board wide…this place would die of dullness. But I’m exhausted from playing an angry old bastard…that ain’t who I am.
Begin the bashing!

Come on, Sam. Don't ruin the fun.
I'm not a loud mouthed name-calling dick in real life either. The only people I get in political discussions with are my wife and kids, and they're more liberal than I am.
This is where I get to spout off. It's a good and healthy thing. I've tried some T1B-type political smack on Nextdoor but I keep getting suspended.

By the way, Sam, I'm all for insults - the more creative the better.
That's a mainstay in our 25 year history [SCIII 1999]. It's our DNA; our roots.
It's the predictable thread hijacking that sucks out loud and makes the board unreadable.

I’m all for good hearted name calling. I mean this was originally a place called smack chat.
But I also like discussing actual issues and that gets increasingly difficult with liberals whose primary defense of their position is that I’m a racist.
As for my own political leanings, I’m not against socialist solutions to problem per se. I just think these problems would best be dealt with at the lowest level of government possible.
In a sane world, your local government election would be the most important. They handle the things most important like police and fire. The state should handle most law writing and maybe even health care.
The feds should handle what they’re proscribed to handle by the 10th amendment.
Why do I have these opinions?
I’ve seen federal government work up close. First as a member of the military and now as a fed government contractor.
They are good at one thing. Setting large piles of tax dollars ablaze.
And why is this so?
It’s simple. They have nearly zero accountability and they have a printing press.
Is there a single liberal out there that can argue this? Can you explain to me why the Feds can do healfcare better than a state?
The Feds should handle the military and little else.

I get it. No harm in insulting and blasting one another.
It’s just not in my DNA to sling vicious crudities around. I’ll still argue, but I’m curtailing the worst of it.

Well, the O is on the same row
As I’ve demonstrated numerous times here, the English language kicks my ass from time to time.
This doesn’t change the fact that….
The Feds do everything horribly
The Constitution specifically says do these things, everything else, leave it to the states.
The writers of The Constitution understood human nature. Government incompetence isn’t new.
You progressive types should be all for doing it at the state level. Show us knuckledraggers how it’s done.
I’d actually vote for someone who thought doing it that way would work.
I like a number of things about RFK. He actually is very liberal, but if he’d push this idea, he’d get my vote.

Re: Left/Right Arguments
You obviously haven’t reached 65 yet because Medicare kicks ass over any private health insurance I’ve ever experienced. And why is that? Because it takes out the money grabbing middle man that adds probably 40% of the cost and needlessly restricts and/or delays many important procedures (with bean counters making medical decisions) all at the holy altar of profit.
So when you make the argument that government can’t do anything right, or at least better than the private sector, you might have a good argument in some cases but in healthcare you have no idea what you’re talking about. They should extend Medicare to cover everyone.

There is zero chance anyone other than the Republican or Democratic nominee will win the election. Right back atcha, Screwy. I really appreciate that. I’ve enjoyed our “spirited” discussions over these many years.
I felt like I had stooped a bit low a few times lately and I’m not wanting to leave that image of me, even if it’s just on the internet.

The healthcare industry knowingly takes a loss on its Medicare business and does what it can to make up for it elsewhere.
BTW, I wouldn’t be opposed to a single payer system IF it would guarantee much needed tort reform. And do it at the state level
THAT is where the real problem lies. Drs have to do a lot of stuff just to defend against those fukkers.

“Single payer healthcare is bad. But it would be good…”
You dont even know what portion of your healthcare cost goes to covering legal fees. Furthermore, you’ve not any idea how it might be different under universal coverage. Yet you post as though you have a brain! Amazing.
Re: Left/Right Arguments
Funny, a lot of major providers around here are dropping private insurance, especially HMOs and Medicare Advantage, which isn’t really Medicare but the insurance industry’s attempt to turn Medicare into a giant HMO. But they’ll take traditional Medicare (Part A and Part B) with no questions asked.smackaholic wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 2:00 pm

I’ve been seeing a Medical Oncologist in a private practice in Marina del Rey for the past year and a half. The first thing they ask you is what kind of insurance you have. If it’s Medicare Advantage or any HMO, or even some of major PPO providers they’ll tell you to pound sand. It’s because they have problems getting paid, and you always have to get pre-approvals for any procedures, which are often delayed denied completely and then have to be appealed, which can take months with no guarantee of being approved. Everything I’ve done in the past couple of years has gone through with no delays and no cost to me other than my (very low) premiums.
But that’s just my anecdotal experience, consistent with hundreds of others I’ve communicated with in Facebook groups. So don’t take my word for it when you have FAUX News and Tucker providing you with the clear and unvarnished TRUTH.

Why all the way up there? I would think there would be a plethora of oncologists to choose from in SD.

Re: Left/Right Arguments
It’s a long story but this doctor has written several books on prostate cancer and was able to give me the answers I was looking for, which the ones down here (UCSD) couldn’t or wouldn’t. He referred me to a procedure at UCLA that they don’t even offer down here. If I was in an HMO that never would have happened. I’ve actually been to the office up there only twice. All my other follow ups are on FaceTime.Diego in Seattle wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 9:19 pmWhy all the way up there? I would think there would be a plethora of oncologists to choose from in SD.
One reason he’s in Marina del Rey is because it’s close to LAX. People fly in from all over the country for consultations.
Re: Left/Right Arguments
The problem with Left/Right echo chambers is everyone arguing about the wrong things. We can fight about trannies in sports while foreign investors buy up residential properties and steal the American dream of private property ownership right out from under us. I'm not saying culture wars aren't worth fighting about but the bigger picture is your children and grandchildren will own nothing because we let it happen.
Ain't nothin' like the real thing, baby.
