NASCAR Fines paid...goes back into Driver Pool
please forgive me....i couldn't get the article to link.
its in the Wall Street Journal...buried in the middle of the article.
google search: when Athletes don't pay
the jist of it is...all of the $$$ that Teams and Drivers are Fined over the course of the season--->DOESN'T Go to CHARITY.
the $$$$caysh$$$$ goes back into a Pool that gets divided up between the Drvers.
Kurt Busch paid $21k Fines...and he got over $80k back.
isn't there something WRONG with this?
maybe NASCAR could donate the Fines to a CHARITY? not back to the Offenders?
Victory Junction Gang is the "new flavor" for NASCAR charities....they might like some of that action....let alone the others.
i heard about this earlier tonight, and it made me ill.
are we just STOOPID...and thought that THAT $$$$ went to Charity automatically?
i guess i was.
sorry about the non-link...but, it is out there.

Well. What to say.
In any pro sport we are subject lies, endorsements, spoiled athletes, etc.
They're all paid way too much. They all also give many dollars to charity. As long as the fans support it, it'll happen. Nascar drivers/teams are still less obnoxious and more down to earth than say your typical NBA star. And far more grounded than say your big name Boxing star. Should we just let it slide? No. It's still entertainment though, if you don't like what they are doing, you need to stop watching.

I would like to point out that these fine ARE NOT for
1. Pulling out a sharpie and signing a tire then throwing it into the crowd during a race
2. Acting like you're pulling your pants down and wiping your ass on a flag pole in victory lane.
3. Smoking crack, Mary Jane, heroin, Roids of all sorts.
4. Hitting a running Sausage with a tail pipe
5. Beating the shit out of your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend(Gordon)
6. A DWI after you already killed someone driving drunk
7. Carrying a firearm, and a small amount of pot
8. refusing to practice
9. showing up late for practice
This ain't baseball, where it only cost a few hundred for balls. Christ, 1 set of tires for 1 team costs more than a whole weeks worth of baseballs.
Most of these fines are technical fines, falling outside of the guidelines of NASCAR specifications. With the costs of what it takes to field a team, they should get the money distributed back.
Doesn't NASCAR, and all the teams already do their part for charities?
In short.... Q shut the fuck up

Who the fuck cares? NASCAR is a private business and they handle their business as they see fit. If you don't like it, there's always F1 or IRL to watch.
Right?
Right?

jackass
NASCAR is absolutely the BEST Sport with regards to handling PR...right?
how's come this "story" isn't getting very much RUN?
because its being squelched from the TOP.
it would be a PR "HOMERUN!" for those FINES to go to "Victory Junction Gang"...or something of its ilk.
yes, it takes a TON of 'coin to operate these Teams. TRUE.
its ludicrous at best...that Kurt Busch, et ALL....get the FINE Money back in Spades.
imagine this (off of the top of my head): quote Chip Gnauss in the rules violation hearing after a Win..."well, we ...uhhh....err... inadvertantly....uhh...errr...ok---->you caught us.
FINE = 25k or so...
Gnauss...oh, WE really learned our lesson there....we'll get that money back at the start of next year.....
YES...that "thought" is there....because that's the WAY it has BEEN!
FINES, i guess; don't matter in the grand scheme of things.
FINES should go to a worthy Charity and POINTS need to be Docked for Rules Violations....with the "Chase for the Cup."
NASCAR has dropped the ball on this one and it needs to be FIXED.
to answer trev's question above: "no, i'll be on a two week protest from watching."
plans for today and outta town next week!
...its like a train-wreck...you HAVE to watch!

I really don't think you realize the cost of this sport.
Every car is worth about a half mill. Tires, fuel, car haulers, a dozen pit crew members, and accommodations for them.
If you go back and look at the fines levied you'll see the worst as Silverspoon dropping a shit, to Rickey Rudd's crew using the wrong type of safety net.
Yeah Jimmie's crew got caught a quarter inch high, and he'll probably get that money back in the end, but look at how many things the smaller teams have gotten snagged with after race inspection.
As for the victory junction gang, I still think it's being well funded by NASCAR, and if were having ANY problems, I'm sure we'd have heard about it. Lots of teams give bonus money to them.
If Chad Kanaus get caught doing anything else this year he's out for a few weeks.
If these guys were getting fined for foul language, fighting, skipping drivers meetings, or just acting like all around assholes, I'd agree with you Q, but right now 80k for Kurt pays for sheetmetal fabricator.

Um, Jackass (yes, the term comes naturally), if the sport is so expensive, and fines can be SUCH a burden, how about not breaking the rules?

Chip Gnauss....Chad Kanaus...whoever the crew chief is...shouldn't break the rules...like Rozy said.
POINT iS--->FINE $$$ should not go back into driver/team pockets.
jackass
do i have to remind you about "my" racing links?
no.
i know damn well how much it costs for those cars to go around in a circle.
thats NOT the POINT.
NASCAR has missed out on a Public Relations WIN...by allowing FINE Money to go back into a driver pool.
period.

assholes are FINED for breaking a Rule? yes?jackass007 wrote:well, we will just disagree then.
this isn't asshole money that should be given to charity.
why should the assholes get a back-end reward for breaking a Rule?
i'm a little surprised by this 007.....to be honest.Besides you, I haven't heard to many others complain.
"whatever"...i guess?
we'll just agree to disagree as stated.
thought that I'd throw this Topic out for discussion.
moving on.

did you quit watching?
bottom line...this really doesn't make sense to me...FINES paid going back to drivers/teams.
i threw out this topic to see if anyone feels the same.
007 doesn't.
you might?
The reality of it shows that there is no Public Outcry about this..
so, it IS what it is...
I like to watch Racing...and i'll watch again.
i'll still go to an event..to enjoy the commaraderie with our friends...drink beer and tell lies.
NASCAR has made a PR blunder...and the show will go on.
might as well still watch the show.....spending "x-tra" $$$ on the Show (memoribilia, etc) will get an x-tra thought though.
if you want to call me a hypocrite....fine by me.

If they gave the Silverspoon "don't mean shit" money to charity, or the Wimmer DUI money to charity, or Harvicks crew chief doing the gas trick... That is true asshole finesQbert wrote:assholes are FINED for breaking a Rule? yes?

the 32 team uses the wrong refrigerant to cool their brakes, or the 28 team uses the wrong type bolts in the spring set-ups, then, it's a mistake, not somebody trying to get over, and that is the majority of the money. Face it Mark Cuban has been fined more that all of the nascar teams put together.
remember the 97 team only got back 80 grand
most fines you've never heard of before Q.. Most fines are 500 bucks for the shit I listed above
I'd be in favor of Nascar starting an asshole folder for fines, like people throwing water bottles at officials...no wait ahhhhhhhhhhhh edit that!
but getting a 500 dollar fine because you used a course thread bolt instead of a fine thread, or you used 22 ga sheetmetal where you should have used 24 ga.. give that back to the teams
That is where I stand on that, now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to Daytona for the 400...When you watch that race, think of me, because I'll be thinking of me too!
