Weekend Roll Call 8-17-24
EH, YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING .......
Judging another bbq contest today. Hoping to award all 9's
to the participants. A few beers poolside afterwards.
A few random thoughts I never got around to this week:
Looks like dickless wonder Sven Gally is the latest in our long line
of egregious spammer's. Just another one trick pony. Dude talks
about the yam more than I do grills and chubby pussy combined,
and absolutely nothing else.
With the election drawing closer - 79 days- the talk has really
increased about the economy and inflation. Chump does an
interview w/ Musk and they laugh about firing striking union
workers that are looking to try and get a raise. Chump wants
to impose large tariffs on all chinese imports- many of which are
simply day to day items that most Americans rely up. Chump wants
to lower taxes yet again for the wealthy and corporations.
And finally, Chump wants to deport 1 million illegals that are here
doing the work Americans don't want do, and at wages they
absolutely refuse to do. Yep, these things would really help
inflation and the economy.
A very vanilla Chiefs preseason game last week. Expect more
of the same this week. Reid says the starters will play the 1st half.
Don't expect to see Mahomes for more than a drive or two. A couple
of handoffs, maybe a screen pass or two .. then benched.
3pete chase continues with 19 days until the real games begin.
A couple of memes -

Waking up to 2 little dogs wanting to go on their walk. Need to hit the grocery store later, maybe cook something at some point. Hopefully will be a slow weekend. Y'all have a good one.

Finished up the dock renovation project this week. Huge birthday party next Saturday for a close relative, and we're going to be having little kids fishing and crabbing off the dock all afternoon. Gotta make it safe for the chillins, ya know.
After dark, we'll be launching about $1500 worth of fireworks off the end of the dock. All the good professional stuff, smuggled in from PA! Is that anywhere close to legal in MD? HELL NO. We're doing it anyway. So much for safety.
Today I'm finishing up a 30 minute slideshow of family pics that'll run on the big screen all afternoon. It's taken a month to complete; scanning, cropping, touching up, resizing, etc. etc. Pics from 1934 to present. Some had to be repaired using AI. LOTS of wytch work and my hands can't take anymore.
Family and friends from all over the U.S. are flying in, so we'll have about 35 - 40 mouths to feed. There'll be food and drinks out the wazoo - steamed crabs, crab balls, Greek meatballs, brisket, pulled pork, slaw, sides, veggie platters, chips n dips... you get the drift.
Looking fwd to Tune Town tonight, especially since I'll miss it next week. Thanks in advance to Smackie for emailing next week's show.

Greek meatballs?
Are we talking bifteki, kebab, or something else?

Totally rack that. Blue crabbing off a dock is the best. Hell, just did it last month with some nieces and nephews in the OBX. Last year about this time, I took a few vacation days and spent some time on Tangier Island in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. Went out with a waterman and his crew at 4AM to pull 250 blue crab traps.
Lazy day for me today. Returned late last night from a weeklong biz trip to Sacramento. No mental energy remained for me today, hence the lazy day. Tomorrow will probably be much of the same... Monday headed to the Finger Lakes of NY for work for several days, then off to Niagara Falls for the weekend w/ a coworker from WA who has always wanted to see the falls.

Great show last night on Tune Town. The Chan Man was hitting on all cylinders. You all should tune in if you get a chance. No politics involved, just a great mix of tunes and some lively (sometimes) chat.
Yesterday morning I made my weekly trip to the flatlands to visit the farmers market and Costco for 90% of the weekly food purchases. Very fortunate here in SoCal to have quality local produce available 52 weeks per year. Followed the Padres vs Rockies on line last night while listening to Toon Town. The Rockies have the worst record in the NL but the Padres, for some reason, have a hard time beating them. In spite of now being 16 games over .500 they were 4-7 vs the Rockies this season before last night, which they won 8-3. Padres are on a 20-5 roll since the All-Star break, leading the Wild Card race, and just 2 behind the Dodgers in the NL West. Sorry Smackie. I do expect the inevitable meltdown soon, though.
RACK kcdave for the CCR reset. It's hard to believe how much music those guy put out in a short period of time. Six albums from 1968 through 1970 that were all classic, and had a massive influence on my formative (13 through 18) years. And most of that stuff still holds up well today.
In the meantime, we're continuing a project in the yard that got started a little over a week ago.
This area, right outside the family room and living room windows, has been a shitty looking pile of dirt and weeds for 25 years. It's now being transformed with a seat wall and pavers, including a couple of rectangular raised beds for flowers and vegetables.
Before:
Current progress:
(The round lids in the middle are risers for the septic tank)
This area just outside our bedroom slider has also been an eyesore for years. We're covering it partly with pavers and partly DG, and putting a retaining wall at the bottom of the bank, with room to get behind the pool equipment, and adding a sleeve in the ground for a removeable folding clothesline.
Before:
Current progress:
Breaking into the center of this seat wall to add a fireplace with 8 foot chimney.
Plus, all the old seat walls are getting re-stuccoed after 24 years.

You must be kidding. I'm to old (and it's too hot here) to do any of this myself. I'm supporting the economy by using a local contractor, who isn't getting any of the materials from Home Depot. It's a family owned company. I've used them before and they are absolutely the best to work with.

Just finished watching Grrreta Van Shushfrushten$%$&^%$&^*% interview Sen. Fetterman and boy has he made a great recovery!
I kinda didn't monitor his ongoing progress. It's just that dude was not in good shape last time I heard him speak.
Anyway, rack his comeback!

Hope she asked Eddie Munster about how he almost killed someone driving 40+ over the speed limit in MD. Fuck Fetterman.
