Harris posted this line on Facebook in 2020 (https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1588566117971314):

"When young children see someone who looks like them running for office, they see themselves and what they can be, unburdened by what has been."

What she meant seems fairly clear to me. She is talking about her appearance (I presume race), and is suggesting that her run for office is inspiring to children who look like her. Nothing weird there. If I'm off in my interpretation, please correct me.

She supposedly took the "unburdened" part of the phrase from Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment (I have not read it and cannot state that it is true - I saw it on Wikipedia).

Recently, and frequently, Harris shortens the phrase to "What can be, unburdened by what has been."

I don't think it is a particularly bad phrase. But it isn't very good either. What is she talking about? Her appearance? Its just not clear.

What is clear is that she views "what has been" as not very good, and that her audience (who must also share that opinion) can aspire to something better.

And that would be a hell of a phrase if your audience was a group of former slaves who have just been emancipated or something to that degree. But there are no audiences like that in the U.S. anymore. I think that most Americans are not particularly burdened by anything or anyone other than themselves. This is still a land of opportunity. And that includes the opportunity to fuck up bigly.

It has been my experience that most people who find themselves in despair can look back on "what has been" and find some very poor choices (e.g., drug use, criminality, illiteracy, promiscuity, laziness, excessive borrowing, etc.). Maybe Harris is telling people who fucked up that she will give them something notwithstanding their prior bad choices. Come to think of it, that must be why the Screw Crew is so bonkers for her.

That could be the meaning too. Morons in California build houses on and beneath crumbling cliffs. They imagine what can be, unburdened by what has been. I see why it fits her and you so well.

It's what someone does when they are vacuous and lacking in depth.

Find what you think is a catchy phrase and keep repeating it over and over.

It is mind-numbing.

That phrase is also a racist "dog whistle" of sorts.

"Unburdened by what has been."
You don't have to worry that whitey has kept you down in the past.

"Imagining what can be."
Now that another brown hope is here, we're going to make things great for brownie.

It probably tested well in focus groups, so she works it in whenever she can. It doesn't really have to make any sense. She rarely if ever does anyway. Total idiot.

Harris is an unmitigated, flaming c-nt, who will be dispatched to the scrap heap of history post-Nov 5th.

Trump will embarrass her next week during the debate - assuming she doesn't worm out of it.

The American voter knows she's a joke.

Just the fringe, beta male and wine swilling broads comprise her voting block.

Yeah by imposing a 10% tariff on all imports. That should work.

During the 19th Century, tariffs provided as much as 95% of the revenue for the federal government. The implementation of taxes on income in the early 1900’s changed the federal funding system irreversibly. We are pawns.

So?

Are you saying that the earlier system was better? And if so, why? They also used to kill people who were accused of heresy or being a witch. Was that a better system than we have now? The top income tax rate in the 1950s, back when America was Really Great, was 91% Should we be going back to that as well?

You are asking questions of a person who believes the federal government should be very, very small by comparison to state governments, and that state governments should be very small by comparison to local governments. I do not believe in income taxation at all. Stupid idea. The tariff system worked well, unless you were trying to fund big governments and war, which is what big governments are best at starting and perpetuating.

If your dollars stayed local, your locale would be better, or you would demand better of the people you can actually talk to. The way it works now, your dollars get flushed into the wind, nothing gets done, and there is no one to be held accountable for the loss.

Uh, look up Trump tariffs on Wikipedia. I assume you believe that source, given its liberal bent.

Read the first paragraph. I didn't provide the link.

From your Wiki article:

Solar panels - China
Washing machines - China
Steel and aluminum - "most" countries

Your reading comprehension is just about where I expected it to be. Maybe third grade? Actually my kids had better comprehension than you by the time they hit first grade.

He's proposing a 10% tariff across the board - all products and all countries, except 60% on China. This is estimated to cost the average American family up to $4,000 per year through inflation. Where's your concern now for "the little guy?"

Also from your link:
A May 2019 analysis conducted by CNBC found Trump's tariffs are equivalent to one of the largest tax increases in the U.S. in decades.[20][21][22] Studies have found that Trump's tariffs reduced real income in the United States, as well as adversely affecting U.S. GDP.[23][24][25] Some studies also concluded that the tariffs adversely affected Republican candidates in elections.[26][27][28]

Biden/Cackles's inflation dwarfs any increase tariffs create.
