Hey Mikey, speaking of Dr. Seuss, how about the Geisel Library in your neck of the woods? I just watched a YT vid about architectural Brutalism and learned about it there. Seen it in person?

I've been there several times (mostly when I was in high school).

Awesome! I think I might like to make a point of visiting it should I ever get around to flying west.Diego in Seattle wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 2:55 pm I've been there several times (mostly when I was in high school).
here's another brutal vid:
Re: Game thread.
I used to study there sometimes when I was in college. Yes it’s that old. Back then it was surrounded by tall eucalyptus trees and, if you were near a window on one of the upper floors, it gave the impression of being high up in a forest. For sure there were more than a few times when I was high, up in the library.bungle clone wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 2:15 pm Hey Mikey, speaking of Dr. Seuss, how about the Geisel Library in your neck of the woods? I have a couple of interesting stories (at least to me) about that place. I’ll try to come back later when I’m at my desktop.

Re: Game thread.
If you ever do want to go there, it's in La Jolla. My recommendation would be to go a little further north on I-5 & get off the freeway at Del Mar. Go west to Hwy 101 (called Camino Del Mar while actually in Del Mar) & then head south. As you leave Del Mar this will be your view looking south, looking down on Torrey Pines State Beach.bungle clone wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 3:12 pmAwesome! The far hillside is Torrey Pines State Park, home of some unusual trees that are only found there. After continuing up that hill on the far side to the top you'll be about 5 minutes away from UCSD (I'd give further directions but the campus has exploded in size since I moved away in '98. It was always 4 separate colleges on the campus when I was growing up, and since I moved away it's become .

OK this is pretty much off topic, but so what.bungle clone wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 2:15 pm Hey Mikey, speaking of Dr. Seuss, how about the Geisel Library in your neck of the woods? I just watched a YT vid about architectural Brutalism and learned about it there. Seen it in person?
Like I said I used to study in this library back in the day. When I was living in the dorms there in '73/'74 there were three colleges at UCSD. Now there are eight and probably four or five times the number of undergrad students, not to mention all the graduate and research programs that have expanded there in the past few decades. The buildings and other facilities were pretty much packed into what is now the southern and western parts of the campus. The library, which back then was called Central Library, was anything but central. It was off by itself in the middle of a eucalyptus grove planted around 1910 by the City of San Diego for railroad ties and bridge timbers (turns out that the wood was not really appropriate for either). Now it's the Geisel library, but fairly central on a campus that's probably ten times the size.
Our dorm was about 3/4 of a mile away from the library (walking distance), and you could get about 2/3 of the way walking through the developed part of the campus, but the last 1/4 mile was on a small dirt trail through the trees.
In the winter and spring we would get some nights where the fog was so thick you could almost cut it with a knife. On some of those nights we'd walk over there as a group of half a dozen or so, across campus and through the eucalyptus grove, which was not lighted at all. The library would be deserted, with just a few lights on inside maybe, and some weak flood lights shining down on the large concrete plaza surrounding it. At some point you could see it looming through the trees. A very eerie sight. Anyway, it completely reminded us of "Funeral for a Friend" on Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, which came out that year. This is the kind of stuff you do when you're 18 years old and living with a bunch of other 18 year-olds, right?
We also found an open entrance to the utility tunnels, which went all around campus, and were completely off limits to students. But so what, right? After months of late night exploration we found we could make it all the way out to the library in the tunnels. You couldn't get out of the tunnel there, but you could look up through a grate and see it. Very satisfying.

Arch Fucking Manning. 3 snaps. 2 TDs. 67 yard run. Looks more like Archie than Peyton or Eli.

Re: Game thread.
Yeah, right. We have the biggest story in college football this week, but what people really want is another tedious political thread with the same stupid people saying the same stupid shit over and over.
Go fuck yourself, idiot

Fuck Texas and Sot Sarkisian. The stench of Saban's piss will always mark him as a bammer.
Fuck Arch Manning. He's been hyped from the day he fell out of his mother's gash.
Fuck YOU for drunk-posting in the wrong thread, you shit smeared mongoloid.

Mrs. Mikey and I (fiancé at the time) rented a condo about 1/4 mile east of that bridge, just up the hill from Carmel Valley Road, in 1987. It had a full on view of Torrey Pines, the lagoon and the beach. We got married on the patio there but moved after 12 months to buy a house in Rancho Penasquitos, which didn’t have quite as nice of a view. I think we paid $1,200 per month for two bedrooms at the time. Can’t imagine what it would be today.
In November of 1978 my friend and I were heading south down that stretch highway, drunker than shit after a night drinking at Bully’s. It was very foggy, my friend was driving, and we went off the road where it veers left to go up the hill. I don’t remember but we must have been going pretty fucking fast because we went through the guard rail and flew 85 feet into the parking lot below. I had half of my right calf muscle sliced open and two fractured vertebrae but somehow crawled back up onto the road where a Good Samaritan picked me up and took me to Scripps Hospital. My friend was still in the car when they found him with a broken neck and in a coma for two weeks. Had to wear a halo cast for a couple of months and is still in a wheelchair. True story.
He was at our house tonight for Mrs. Mikey’s birthday party.

You got extremely lucky. A guy in my sister's high school class died on that grade in an accident at about that time (too long ago for me to remember if alcohol was said to have been involved).Mikey wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 6:47 amMrs. Mikey and I (fiancé at the time) rented a condo about 1/4 mile east of that bridge, just up the hill from Carmel Valley Road, in 1987. Taylor Swift's Jet Seen Fleeing Site Of Trump Shooting
MAR-A-LAGO, FL — After shots rang out from an AK-47 while President Trump was attempting to play a round of golf, Taylor Swift's private jet was spotted fleeing the scene.
"That's the last time you mess with the Swifties!!" a nasally, sing-song voice cried out as the plane rose into the sky.
While the investigation remains ongoing, officials pointed to Trump's inexplicably posting "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT" on Truth Social as a possible motive. "Trump's been up against the legal system, foreign governments, his own party, and everything in-between. But he's never been up against the Swifties," said local investigator Dean Simmons. "This is a whole new ball game."
At publishing time, Democrats had agreed to stop calling Trump "literally Hitler" for about 48 hours after the most recent shooting.
“It is usually futile to try to talk facts and analysis to people who are enjoying a sense of moral superiority in their ignorance.”
Re: Game thread.
Are Swifties even a voting bloc? They're pre teen girls, I'm guessing any politician could piss them off with impunity. Worst case, they'll slam the door to their room and not come out.Screw_Michigan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 12:23 am Yeah, who's gonna win this? The world's biggest pop music star or Dump?

Why isn’t the Secret Service knocking on Space Nazi’s front door? Even more ponderous is that he’s allowed hold any Federal contracts? I guess they need to get those two astronauts down but this ahole should be sent back to South Africa where he was spawned.
And these “patriots?” They definitely should not be walking around free to incite the assassination of the VPOTUS.

Those posts are sickening. Assassinations and assassination attempts aren’t rare, but to basically promote killing is sick as hell.Mikey wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 5:41 pm

I disavow and distance myself from anyone who advocates the killing of another human being, especially a high profile individual like a politician which causes widespread distrust and unrest.
Libertarians of NH are pieces of shit for posting this. They should retract it and disable their account.

I guess there are a few that most of us can agree on.

There is the possibility that she misspoke, as she was speaking after the alleged second assassination attempt with a firearm. What can't be spun as misspeaking is posted below (since deleted on Twitter) . This statement was made LAST YEAR (not exactly news) and she immediately corrected herself.
And when did she become a “top Harris surrogate?” She’s a non-voting congressional delegate from the US Virgin Islands who nobody has ever heard of. How much further into obscurity can she she possibly shrink?
You’re really grasping at straws here. Or maybe just another dupe who will fall for anything that tickles your MAGAt gonads?
