headed to D.C. tomorrow
A friend is being inducted as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a huge honor. She is a professor at LSU and is brilliant. She is married to the professor who has made trips to Antarctica, and I have posted some of his pics here before.
We're staying at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, never been there before but I trust it is a nice place.
Anyway, it has been a few years since I've been to D.C., anyone have suggestions as to where to go, places to see, nice restaurants and so on?
I love the Smithsonian museums, how could you not love them. The Air and Space museum, Natural History, and American History museums are incredible, I've been to them before but would love to see them again. Any other suggestions?
José Andrés has a couple of restaurants there, and we might go to one of them. The city has many great restaurants but we'll only be there until Sunday. I know some of y'all have been to D.C. since I been there, where are some of the best places?

The Hyatt Regency is in a dumpy part of the Hill. Everything nice about Capitol Hill the neighborhood is located east and SE of the Capitol. I have to head out for the afternoon but I'll make sure to contribute more later.
Re: headed to D.C. tomorrow
Damnit. And it is the official hotel for the gala.
Thanks for any other comments.

The hotel is nice but the neighborhood isn't. Bounded to the west by a highway and social services. To the north is nothing special. You'll be safe to walk around and stuff but it's not a nice part of the neighborhood.

Sounds like Union Square.
Re: headed to D.C. tomorrow
I was in DC over the summer, stayed near 14th St. Really enjoyed the location.
A beautiful spacious city and very clean compared to Queens NY and 42nd St in Manhattan.
DC is so spacious, I wish our white supremacist 1930s Nazi Socialist Party Mayor Adams in NYC would bus some of these migrants from the luxurious hotels on 42nd St down to Lafayette Square in DC where there is plenty of space!
Why should New Yorkers bear all the bront of this excess influx??

Make sure that there aren’t any Republicans there, or Diego will accuse you of judicial fraud.

Just don't be disrespectful of those who rest there. As in don't pose for a pic with the thumb you shove up your ass out for all to see while smiling.

Re: headed to D.C. tomorrow
Excellent suggestion. I often forget to mention ANC but anyone who hasn't been there should certainly make the trip.
JSC---There's a big neighborhood festival near you on Saturday called H St Fest on H St NE. It's walking distance (or very short cab ride) from your hotel. One of the best neighborhood festivals in DC. Recommended. H St NE also has tons of hip food and drink options. Good upscale and dive bar options too.
Food options near you include Union Market and La Cosecha, two popular food halls in NoMa near you. Lots of things to choose from. Fun atmosphere. La Cosecha is LATAM oriented, which I like.
Other good food and drink suggestions on Capitol Hill, on Penn Ave SE immediately southeast of the Capitol between the building and 8th St SE. Lots of food options on Barracks Row/8th St SE on Capitol Hill too.
I also like 14th St NW north of downtown and south of U St NW. Very popular entertainment district and U St is a historic entertainment district as well. Lots of great food and drink options in Dupont Circle, just west of Union Station on the Red Line.
I live in Columbia Heights around 14th St NW and Park, if you like dive bars and great ethnic food. Smackie can vouch.
PM me if you have any immediate questions and I'll be happy to help and check my PMs over the weekend.

Re: headed to D.C. tomorrow
I will mention for Roux that I've visited 3 times, each time with a visit to ANC. And each visit a full day was spent walking the grounds. I would recommend slotting that much time for ANC should you go to pay your respects.

Go to the SCOTUS if you have time. If you are a member of the SCOTUS bar, you can go upstairs to the library, which is old school and cool as fuck. If you are not a member of the SCOTUS bar, PM me and we’ll get that straightened out for your next visit.

I never argued a case before SCOTUS, that would be the absolute pinnacle of my career. The closest I've come is a couple of writ oppositions, but that is not remotely close to oral argument.
Have you argued?? If so, do tell. And if you don't want to do that here publicly, please call or text me, I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks for asking. In the hospital there was a cardiac catheterization, out-patient I've had an echocardiogram. Oct 3 is stress test day. Nope on the stent because Doc said the blockages are small but diffuse. So drug therapy for the arterial gunk. Ick.

Never argued a case at SCOTUS. I had one petition for writ granted, but in the same order the SCOTUS reversed the 6th Cir. based on a decision it issued the same day in a different case. Close but no cigar.Roux wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 11:56 am88BuckeyeGrad wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 2:37 am Go to the SCOTUS if you have time. Very sorry to learn that you're going through all this, bungle clone. Ejection fraction of 30% is no bueno. IMHO if you're given a choice between a chemical stress test vs a treadmill test, take the chemical option. The discomfort doesn't last so long. Glad to see a couple of your meds are the big guns. Hope they get you back on your feet asap!bungle clone wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 6:10 pm sorry man I'm still laid up. Also good to see that you're medicating with some kind bud.
What's your preferred method of medicating? Smoke, dab, vape, eddies?

I got excellent results with flower bong hits topped with a small piece of shatter. Highly recommended! Fast relief. Get yourself a nice glass tube, a couple one-hit bowls, and some rubbing alcohol to keep it all sparkling clean. Money well spent.bungle clone wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 2:46 pm edibles are great, flower is preferable for shorter term relief

Plan B was a good ol' bowl with the same combo. I'm a cheap bastard - the bowl was Plan B because it keeps burning between hits. Slightly wasteful.
Plan C was a Volcano Classic vaporizer with flower. It's easier on your lungs than smoking. The volcano is worth looking up and reading about it. For some, it is the best possible option. I bought a Volcano a few years back but only used it 5 or 6 times. Mainly because I liked the fast acting flower & shatter cocktail so much. After you read up on the Volcano, if you're interested, I'll ship it to you. It's got all new & unused parts & accessories so there are no Spackler germs left.
I've written all this mess in past-tense because I gave up smoking for New Year's. Still take edibles every now and then, so I'm no quitter!
