Weekend Roll Call 9-21-24

Post by kcdave »

FOC finally on tap for some rain. Most of the
weekend looks to be a wash out. Thankfully it won't
stop the KCBS teams. I am judging another contest today
and looking forward to some good Q followed up by the
MIZZOU game this afternoon.

Chiefs tomorrow night against the Falcoons.
141 days to 3pete.

44 days to the election.
Yam still endorsing the black nazi.

No meme today.
Nothing much to rant about either.
I'll try to do better next weekend.

Happy weekend, y'all.

In D.C. now, and I wish I could stay here a month, so much I'd love to check out. Yesterday was our travel day and it wiped me out, but we still went on a bus tour of the city.

My wife forgot her wedding ring at home, she takes it off when she does yard work and then sometimes forgets about it, like she did yesterday. So on the spur of the moment, I took her to Tiffany's and got her another ring. I told her that I'd buy her any ring she wanted, as long as she never takes it off. She ended up choosing a simple band:

Judging by the smile on her face, this was one of the best things I've ever done for as long as we have been married. Happy wife, happy life.

Last night several of us went to an Italian restaurant called L'Ardente. Apparently it is quite popular, reservations difficult to get, and so on. Food was good, I had the lasagna, which had 40 layers, have no idea how they did that. The only pic I took during the evening was a neon sign near the restrooms, I have never seen such a sign, especially not lit up in neon:

Tonight is a gala where a friend of ours is receiving a prestigious award, one that is well deserved. Should be quite an event, no doubt I'll post about it later.

Tomorrow, Manhattan Twist is in a stakes race in New York. He won his first race but this is a step up in competition, hopefully he will be up to the challenge.

Won't be able to watch football this weekend but I'll be checking the scores. Geaux Tigers, geaux Saints. Y'all have a good one.

Gonna derail whatever the wife has planned for the day and take her out to lunch at Harris' on Kent Island.

We don't go out very often so she'll have a good time. Their seafood is incredible - fresh off the boat.

Looking forward to Tune Town tonight!

Killington is wonderful. As a matter fact, just returned from there for a few days visit w/family who lives there. Very much enjoy hiking the small mountain streams and catching some wild brook trout. Hope you enjoy your time there, TWIS. P.S. DO NOT speed on Rt. 4 heading back down towards Rutland as it is very heavily policed. Set your cruise at a hair over 50, relax, and enjoy the scenery.

For me, yardwork this morn and now settling in for some CFB and a cocktail in a bit.

Just got back from the weekly excursion to the flatlands for the farmers market and Costco. This afternoon I have an appointment at the household hazardous waste disposal to leave off some household hazardous waste. Yard work later and Tune Town tonight. I’ll be grilling some king salmon that I picked up at Costco. Not as fresh as what Dins gets to eat three times a day, but it’s the best we can do here.

Wild brook trout in those mountain streams are like fresh water barracuda. Once when fishing a stream in the Catskills, my son caught a nice 9 inches. It had a swollen belly so I cut it open to see what it had eaten. Insidevwas a snake about 10" long. Amazing.
Enjoy.

I like salmon done pretty simple. Probably just some seasoning and EVOO, throw it on the grill skin side down and when the skin is nice and crispy I’ll turn it over and cook until done. I haven’t done king salmon for quite a while but it was relatively cheap at Costco today ($15.99). I usually do coho salmon that way, and I remember having problems with king salmon flaring up because it’s so much more oily. I’ll just have to keep an eye on it.

Cool story, wolfman. 10 year old Rooty caught a 12" brookie. It had a crazy deep body and looked almost like a massive sun fish. I was so excited but the meat was really soft like it was too old.

Yes, wild brookies are very aggressive, as evidenced by the fact your son caught one with a snake in its belly. My best is a 12"er, caught in a stream that tumbles down from Killington Mountain. Was the only wild brookie I've ever kept for dinner. Yes, it was delicious.

I'm getting older. If I knew how to, I'd post pics of it on this sordid clambake. Once photobucket jettisoned their free hosting, I bailed and have never revisited how to post pics.

I had the same conundrum with Photobucket. Check out imgur.com.

King salmon, asparagus and chanterelle mushrooms from the grill. Corn on the cob to round things out.

This was more than just edible.
