Zack would be here to remind us but he went to jail with the rest of the .net inner circle.

Anyway, his message was "spring back, fall forward. Set the clocks ahead this w.e."

It's easy to remember this limerick, "Set the clocks up to fall into winter."

one year we stayed on DST and it didn't go well with little kids going to school in the dark. Golfers and softball players like DST for the obvious reason

Not sure what the problem is. We use the same clocks all year.

I hear that Elon has a plan to shift the earf’s axis to give us celestial equity.

Then we’d have that equinox dealio every day.

It’ll be Epcot.

The change of the seasons, weather differences between the hemispheres, and the necessity to change our clocks are all explained nicely with a global planet. Not so much with a flat earth. :redban:

I will not be discussing the shape of the earth in this thread, but here is a video with perspective and information about seasons if the earth is fl@t.

DST is just dumb IMO, and needlessly complicates our lives. But who am I to say?

Timekeeping in our house:

iPhones and computers - automatically show the correct time.

Amazon Echo Dot - automatically shows the correct time. And also allows Jeff Bezos to know what we’re saying in our bedroom.

Smart TV - automatically shows the correct time.

Microwaves - require a few button pushes to reset the time.

Smart thermostat - automatically adjusts through WiFi.

Pool controller - automatically adjusts through WiFi.

Alarm system - automatically adjusts through WiFi.

Storage battery and car charger - automatically adjust through WiFi.

Battery operated clocks in bathrooms - I have to go and manually move the hands.

Fancy Casio watch with stopwatch, compass, altimeter, multiple time zones and other functions that I rarely if ever use - there’s a sequence of about four button pushes to turn DST on or off that I have to look up twice every year.

Antique heirloom grandfather clock (actually called a regulator tall clock because there are no chimes) - it has to be wound every week and hands moved manually but I stopped doing it years ago because it’s noisy and a pain in the ass. Looks nice though.

Heirloom ship’s bell clock - timekeeping and bells have to be wound separately. Stopped winding that one too.

There probably are more but I can’t think of them now.

Oh yeah, cars have to be adjusted manually as well.

Why in G0d's name do you need clocks in your bathrooms? Just curious.

Don’t you time your dumps?

Actually it’s just in the master bathroom to keep Mrs. Mikey on track when we’re getting ready to go somewhere.

Please don’t tell her I said anything, OK?

LOL

We have the same scenario. Doesn't work. At all. Mrs G is on time maybe 2% of the time. It aggravated me for a long time but mostly I've moved to acceptance.

Sometimes I set a target time for leaving about 15 minutes before we really need to go. I’m thinking about changing that to 30 minutes.

I've tried lying about event start times. She always discovers the lie and I feel bad. So we're late.

Say an event starts at 7 and it's an hour away, plus time to park and walk to the gate, pass security, and get seated. I want to leave by 5:30.

SHE thinks we can leave at 6 and magically get parking close to the gate at 7, get ticketed and seated lickety split, and be in our seats by 7. So, of course, she logically STARTS getting ready.... at 6 o'clock.

I kid you not, this is my life. I speed like a mofo, drop her at the entrance, park in BFE, and sprint my ass to the gate so we're only 15 minutes late.

At some point in her preparations she'll lose her glasses and phone, spend two minutes finding them and spend the whole drive blaming her lost glasses for us leaving 30 minutes late.

Dammit, now I need to meditate.

LOL. I’ve never fibbed about a starting time but have been known to embellish the estimated travel and parking time. Most of the places we go are an hour or more away and, with variable traffic, it’s good to have some wiggle room. I try to leave at least 90 minutes for a one hour drive. Sometimes up to two hours. OK I may be a little bit anal about being late but it’s better to sit around for 30 minutes than to try and walk in on an event that’s already started. You can always get something to eat or walk around. The wife never argues about the starting time but usually overshoots for many of the reasons you mentioned. Finding the exact right clothes is another thing. Somehow it always seems to work out with me gritting my teeth as I try to navigate the traffic. She hates it when I drive fast and I hate being late.
