Many years ago I had a dishwasher problem, so I called our home shield company to have someone come out and fix the problem.

The worker came into our house and my daughter, age 13 at that time, was doing homework in the living room. The guy walked past her and asked her what she was studying. She told him it was Literature. Then he said, "Oh, what do you want to be when you grow up?" She said, "I want to be the next Barbara Walters."

The guy let out an audible laugh. Then he said to her, "Young dreamer. Someone will come along and take the wind out of your sails pretty soon." Then he went into the kitchen and got busy looking at the dishwasher.

Later my daughter asked me what the worker meant when he said someone was going to take the wind out of her sails. I told her that he is doing manual labor and probably had his own dreams shattered a long time ago. He feels anguish because of it. So now he likes to tell other people, especially young people, that their dreams will be shattered and they will not have the fulfillment they dream of. I told her not to pay attention to him. You can be the next Barbara Walters. I believe in you.

My daughter long ago graduated with a degree in political science. Right now she is 32 and is working part time as a convenience store clerk. It has been a rough patch. Her husband left her and their one child. She still has dreams and aspirations. I believe she can still make it.

I was thinking about her situation recently, and I remembered this worker and what he said to her. If he saw her today he might think that he has gotten over on her. I think differently.

It appears you raised your little princess with the inspiring lie, "You can be anything and do anything!" While true in theory and a nice thing to say to a little kid, the lie ignores an awful lot of reality that may arrive rudely since you didn't prepare her for it. Most girls are going to get a little bit fat and a little bit crazy, and change their priorities to the monumental task of tackling a single load of laundry today after working the register at Kum & Go. If their husbands are lucky, a woman will plateau at +20lbs and only need one or two medications to keep from drowning kids in a bathtub.

If the plateau never happens, fatter and crazier has no upper limit. More medications lead to weight gain leads to depression so add another pill and fuck that load of laundry indefinitely. Eventually the husband leaves for a +20 lady whose husband fucked around because he didn't realize how good he had it. This is reality for 90% of women. Hardworking men make their lives comfortable and the women waste that comfortable life getting fat and crazy. How fat and how crazy is a broad spectrum but 90% of them fall into the confidence interval. The remaining 10% don't get fat but they do get crazy. Female politicians, onlyfans models, and trophy wives with OCD fall into the outlier tails.

Your daughter seems to have plateaued and her husband bailed because he didn't realize how bad it can get. He'll find out soon enough.

I raised my daughter very well. She is in a rough patch now, but she much better off without her ex-husband. He is a wanker.

Dreams are healthy for the mind, and my daughter still has many. She won't be working at the convenience store forever. You can feel free to bump this thread in two years and we'll see what's what.
