Weekend Roll Call 12-28-24

Post by kcdave »

Interesting, new vid from a band I have never
heard before that seems to have been around in
one form or another for damn near 40 years.

Intrigued a little, I strayed down a rabbit hole
for a minute. It seems these chaps are of the
stoner/sludge/doom genre of metal. Hmm, ok.
Reddit folks seem to rather enjoy this next
sorta not really safe for work vid.

I will likely give this band an extended listen sometime
soon, albeit, audio only. The vids are a bit much.

Anyone besides me noticed the absence of Screwy from
Cul de Smack? I see weekly posts in the NFL forum, but
nothing here since shortly after the election. Did dude
lose a bet, or is this just some self imposed exile?

Decent weather on tap for FOC. Need to squeeze in a
little grill work along with de-xmasing the house.
Shit tons of good NFL on the tube. No Chiefs this weekend
as they went 3-0 in an eleven day span. Homefield/bye
is locked up. Time for those guys to rest up for the
playoffs. If you have been following along, you have seen
me mention here weekly about the inevitable 3pete since July.
If memory serves, Chip was the only one to doubt this. I will
assume the rest of you are in agreement and riding along
on the red bandwagon as well. 3pete- 43 days away.

Sling Blade update-
Vaghub finally picked up a VHS copy from Ebay.
Of course, when we tried to play it, the lone VCR we
had on a shelf in the storage room would not work.
Looking and calling around, there are virtually zero,
working VCR's to be found in the KC metro.
Searching further does find a few dvd copies,
mostly blueray and being sold for $50. I am not ready
to pull that trigger yet. Google tells us:
Sling Blade" is considered difficult to find primarily due to complex rights issues related to its distribution by Miramax, which has resulted in limited availability on streaming services and often makes physical copies like DVDs and Blu-rays scarce and expensive to purchase; this is likely due to behind-the-scenes legal complications that haven't been fully resolved, making it hard to access the film widely.
The quest continues.

Weird videos, mang.

Detroit will win the Super Bowl this year. KC has a great team, but so does Detroit and they are hungrier for it.

Wife informed me that I'm making a seafood gumbo for New Year's and she's inviting several people to the house. Well ok, but we're not yet cleaned up from Christmas. Making a seafood gumbo ain't a quick process, and yes, I tend to make a mess of the kitchen as I cook it. But the end result is pretty tasty and so I'm looking forward to it.

Had a prostate MRI a couple of days ago and fell asleep in the machine, which surprised the guy running the machine. I should say further surprised him, as he was the same guy who took my medical history. For his sake, I hope he doesn't play poker, because when he asked "have you had any surgeries", he was  at my answer. He liked the sugar cookies that I brought though.

We've enjoyed having all four daughters here for Christmas. What I got them was really a gift for my wife and I, namely time with them -- we're going on a trip together. So I wrapped up an empty photo frame, and when they opened it, my wife gave them a piece of paper and told them to list their top three places they'd like to go. I thought it would be somewhere like NYC, Miami, or maybe Hawaii. Nope. They started talking about France, Italy, and Japan. Holy shit. But when the votes were counted, Argentina won. Argentina?? Not sure it would have made my top 100 places to go, but that's where we're going at some point in 2025, late summer or early fall. I need to do some reading because I know very little about the place. Any of y'all ever been there?

LSU has been signing transfer players, yay I guess. I'm still pissed that Michigan got that QB Bryce Underwood at the last moment from us. I've been hearing about that kid for at least two years, and it sucks to have him switch at the last moment to Michigan. I've definitely joined the Fuck Michigan club, and I hope Ohio State beats them by 60 next year.

Time to walk the little boys and get the day started. Y'all have a good one.

Happy Weekend, Y'all.

There's been a noticeable chill factor in vitriolic posting since election day. This calm will probably sustain until Jan 20 (unless the leftist loons pull the desperation lever and do something stupid prior to then) but as the veil of corruption gets pulled away, no way will mikey, roux, screwy, fiat, diego, et. al., NOT be reminded of their diagnosed willful ignorance, gullibility, or just plain stupidity for the past 4 years.

Since it was so important to prosecute the president's son for submitting a gun permit that failed to list previous illicit drug use can we look forward to Trump's DOJ filing charges for the same charges?

I’m sure that we can look forward to the continuing constant barrage of strawmen and hypocrisy from the likes of Seer, HPG, Sven Gullible, etc.

Happy New Year.

I haven't talked to him about it, but I assume it is a self imposed exile.

I wondered about that as well, and also about several surgical clips that are in me. But the technician wasn't concerned, and it wasn't a problem.

I had two metal on metal hip replacements in 2011. Actually “resurfacing” which is a little different. I’ve been getting prostate MRIs since 2019. The standard MRI system is 3T (Tesla is the strength of the magnetic field). On my first one in 2019 they said that they had to use a 1.5T system because of interference caused by metal implants. I’ve had four, maybe five since then and all were done using the 3T system. Every result, since the first, has included some kind of disclaimer about loss of accuracy due to the interference, but results have always been very detailed, including measurements down to the mm level, and no discussion of any specific uncertainties. The most recent one, from October, didn’t include any disclaimer. I think maybe the algorithms used to construct the 3D imaging from dozens or maybe hundreds of multiparametric images have improved a lot in the past few years.

Perhaps Netflix should make a movie about the war experiences of Donald Trump.

Welp, checking in one last time for the year in this place.
Man I miss the annual POTY thread. Such a great effort The General put in to that thread and topped off with a NYE chick rankem.

Just chilling at home tonight with the boys. Wife worked today and again tomorrow. That's life as a nurse in a major hospital!

Best NYE show is on CBS. It's the one from Nashville with a bunch of country music singers and showing tons of country chicks in the crowd. But I'm sure most in here will be watching that pole smoker fest with Ryan Seacrest. If Dick Clark knew how his Rockin' Eve show is now, he'd be rolling in his grave.

Later all!

I watched some clips of Anderson Cooper and holy shit that was awful. They need to create a Dick Clark hologram and program it with AI. Get rid of these vapid talking heads who can't think without a teleprompter.

Yesssssss Diego!! These clueless worshippers of Grover Trump in here need to be smacked often! You just crushed mvscal with this brilliant take! Literally all you have to do is mention Grover Grump (in any thread) and they don’t know how to respond!

You’re playing chess while they’re playing “trickle down” Connect Four! Genius!

Who wouldn’t love watching a “live” show of something that happened an hour or three earlier in NYC?
