9.1.3 is the crown of the helmet rule. This doesn’t discuss defenseless. It is strictly about the defender or offensive player using the crown of the helmet with an indicator of TGT. This hit was not with the crown of the helmet, so 9.1.3 doesn’t apply

9.1.4 is a hit to the head or neck area of a defenseless player. We all agree that the WR was defenseless. Full stop. With that established we can move on to the 2nd part of the rule that requires an indicator. An indicator can be a launch, a crouch with and upward thrust, an elbow or forearm used in a non tackling manner. The rule says nothing about helmet to helmet contact.

So I will ask again, what do you think the indicator is/was?

There’s no launch as the defender still has a foot on the ground.

It isn’t crown in any way. Think of the crown as about the same size as a yamaka. To be guilty of a crown hit the tackler generally has to have his chin down at/near his chest. 9.1.3 is to protect the spine of the hitter not the person receiving the hit.

Indicators are defined in the rule book and the potential injury after a play is over certainly isn’t an indicator.

You also use the words helmet to helmet again. Get that out of your head. No where in the NCAA rule book is helmet to helmet a thing.

The reason for his wasn’t called either on the field or upon further review is because there is no indicator. You can’t have a targeting foul of 9.1.4 without an indicator.

One last response on this… new coach…big team turnover…what more can we hope for? We could have beat your t-shirt team and made the conference championship game. We lost to a great defense. I do believe I have removed my bias here. I continue to ask what the indicator is and no no has pointed out a single indicator. Without that, per the rule, there can be no TGT. Sorry, I didn't write the rules, the coaches did.

Which of the 9 refs are you talking about who will never get another big game? The replay official? Any of the 4 on field officials that could have seen the hit live? Officials are rarely set out to pasture and just given games. They either keep going or are fired, but they don't get to keep calling in crappy low level games.

I don't expect any bias from the officials on Friday. If there is, there is no where for them to hide and actually trying to influence a game will get them bounced for sure.
