This begs the question, why does one of the most advanced states have a 3rd world grid?
I don’t recall brown outs and fires being a thing 50 years ago.
Could it be that we had competent people overseeing it?
Could it be that we had a tried and true generation system, all under the control of the utility. And it was power by dead dinosaurs and atom splitting?
Could it be possible that hooking up thousands of small generating stations that make power when they feel like it could be a bad idea? And each of these stations are overseen by….uhhhh, WTF does oversee them?
Nahhhhh, none of that can be true. It’s all the fault of CO2 levels which might have caused a fraction of a degree warming.
Another poser who really doesn't know what he's talking about. You make some valid points. But third world? Give me a break. You have no clue.
Funny I don't see much sympathy in this "discussion" for any of the victims. Just a convenient chance to heap some scorn on the folks who supposedly brought this on themselves. Why wasn't the infrastructure in North Carolina and the rest of the Southeast prepared for Hurricane Helene, which wasn't any more unprecedented than the weather events the past week in SoCal?
But...they're not as ripe of a target for the MAGAt crowd as this week's victims. So seriously, unless you've got something more constructive than links to some doofus "X" account or advice for forest management where there are no forests...just go fuck yourselves.
And the press can go fuck themselves too. I'm pretty tired of reading about the $40 million mansions lost in Malibu. Those people can go and live in one of their other homes for a while and maybe miss the beachfront for a season. If you choose to spend tens of millions upgrading an uninsurable home, and it burns down, I can't muster all that much sympathy.
