MS outlook converting attachments to .dat files
Having some trouble lately sending word.doc files to certain people who use outlook. For some reason their version of outlook is converting the attachments to .dat files, and when we tried to rename them, they are all scrambled text when opened. Anyone ever heard of this?

Mine or theirs? I would think theirs, since not every one I send files to has this problem.

I don't use outlook. I send stuff from the web email, and up load files to the message.
Not everyone has this problem. Only a few people seem to.

This happens when someone receives a message with an attachment in their Outlook box, and tries to forward it. I run into this problem all of the time. I have the sender resend after saving the attachment to a directory on their hd, and attaching it directly to a new message.

Heard of it!!Mister Bushice wrote:Having some trouble lately sending word.doc files to certain people who use outlook. Usually this happens when the sender sends a version of Word (or whatever) in a newer format than the receiver has.. thus it does not recognize it..
You can try to open it in NotePad..

To work around this behavior, you must send the message in the plain text format. (What ELTaco said...)
To send ONE message as plain text: 1. On the Actions menu, point to New mail Message Using, and then click Plain Text.
2. In the To box, type a valid e-mail address, such as "someone@microsoft.com."
3. Right-click the e-mail address, and then click Properties.
4. Make sure that the Always send to this recipient in Microsoft Outlook rich-text format check box is not selected, and then click OK.
5. Click Send to send the message.
To send ALL messages to a contact as plain text: 1. Open a contact you want to send messages to as plain text.
2. In the E-mail box, double-click the e-mail address.
3. Clear the Always send to this recipient in Windows Messaging rich-text format check box.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
