Thoughts on the All-Star teams?

Post by Shoalzie »

Every year, it's the same story...the fans vote in a few guys that don't deserve to be there, a few guys get left out and someone thinks the rosters should be expanded even more. You cheapen the idea of naming players to an All-Star team when you make rosters larger. Not every player with a solid first half is going to make the cut...that's baseball. Plus, I'm annoyed when I hear things like Jeter not making the All-Star team is a crime. If he's not one of the two or three best shortstops in the AL, then he shouldn't be there. He'll probably get in with the 32nd player vote-off anyways.

Rogers had an All-Star first half but he shouldn't play in the game because of his suspension. Santana is having a decent year but far from last year...he got in on last year's performance. MetFan went a little crazy with the ballots...Pedro is their only true All-Star this year and Floyd should be in over Beltran in the outfield. Enough with Piazza already...he's horrible behind the plate and he's a mediocre hitter now to boot. The Cardinals have the best fans in the baseball but Edmonds, Eckstein and Rolen shouldn't be there and Pujols was ahead of Lee at 1B most of the voting...still having a great year though. The fact the Cardinals having a great year without Rolen and guys like Edmonds and Walker not having super years makes Pujols 1a in the MVP race with Lee. The NL starters are littered with guys that shouldn't be on the team.

Not everyone is a fan of the "every team needs a representative" rule. I think it's fair to have one for every team but this year, the wrong guys are representing the bad teams. Crawford or Cantu should be the D-Rays' representative...not Baez. For Oakland, Chavez or Kotsay should be in over Duchscherer. No offense to middle relief but it's not a glamour position worthy of an All-Star apppearance. For the Tigers, I think Bonderman should be in instead of Pudge but since they're going to have him on the cover of the All-Star program...I guess that decision was made ahead of time. Ichiro isn't have a typical year...I thought Guardado should be Seattle's representative. The Royals are probably the one team I'd say doesn't have a guy with an All-Star resume, so to speak. Sweeney started the season well but he's been hurt and his numbers are not all that great. Barmes had an All-Star year going until he fell down the stairs...he's the only Rockie that should be there but he's not going to be healthy in time for the game.

Here's what my All-Star teams would be following the rules of every team needs to be represented and each team has a 32-player roster...

Fuck Rogers as well, glad that prick was booed in Seattle last night. Never could understand with video technology why appeals can't be heard immediately, instead of July 11. Scott Borassssssssssssss doesn't have a chance in hell of getting that suspension reduced.

Nice list there. Although, Young and Morris have to be in. I agree on your take about jeter. he is having a nice year but it is ok if not everybody on the Yankees makes the All-Star team this year.

How would you have Aramis voted over Ensberg?

I'd say they're both worthy of start...atleast I had the sense to include Ensberg on my team. It's unfortunate that the fans voted in Rolen because that's probably is what keeping Ensberg from being on the team to begin with. You can't deny what Ramirez has been doing for the Cubs though.
