Indie in Indy?

Post by MgoBlue-LightSpecial »

Little while back I spent a couple months in Indianapolis for work, and was bummed that a town of such a respectable size offered little-to-nothing, as far as a music scene goes. Great little venues there, but no one who gave a damn came through. I talked to a guy who worked at a tight little record store there who said Death Cab played their place a ways back, which took me back considering they're on the verge of full blown mainstream now. He gushed on about it as if it was GBV at Radio City Music Hall. Truly sad.

So of course, what happens? A few months after I leave, long after the whining has ended at least, they invite hundreds and hundreds of bands and artists, locally and internationally, to play their venues, all in a three day span which would wear out the most passionate of music-goers.

The list includes notables The French Kicks and VHS or Beta.

indie in St. Louis sucks a bunch. Lots of concerts pass us by. Guess they think we'd be open to trekking up to Chicago for every decet show.

So, you're saying that the Midwest isn't quite as culturally advanced as the rest of the country?

Thanks, Marcus.

And Indy decides to put on the end-all, be-all of indie shows, and came up with that lineup? Excuse me while I BWAHAHAHAHA!

Looks like a normal week's music listings in my local rag.

Point out in my post where I attempted to compare the music scene in Indy to other parts of the nation? Good luck, dick. I said for a "city of respectable size", I'm surprised that there isn't even an ounce of interest. I'm not sure how that translates to Indy vs San Fran, Indy vs Seattle, Indy vs NY, etc., but hey, if it's convenient for you to skew a post in order for you to get off a blast that's clever in your eyes, then more power.

Who said end-all, be-all? There you go again. I'll break this all down in one sentence for you.

"This is a great event FOR INDY"

Let me stress again, "FOR INDY".

Hope it clicks now.

we do get shows but plenty of tours skip us over. I might have to go to one of the nearby college towns for some shows.

know anybody who lives in chicago? when i was there this weekend i picked up a copy of the chicago reader, and holy shit, is it thick. there is so much live music going that you could see someone different every night for almost a year straight if you tried. detroit gets its fair share of shows, but obviously as far as the midwest goes, chicago is where it's at for shows. unfortunately it's $32 per tank now and that is more than my ticket most of the time, so i can't head there regularly, but it's not a bad city to see a show in.

Best man just moved from Washington DC back to Chicago. The man hated driving an hour each day to work so he's back at the Addison El stop (Red line I think).

He was all pissed off because Shellac played and instead of any of their catalog they played Nevermind the Bollocks from beginning to end. I countered his anger with "At least you get to see Shellac from time to time."
