EAST LANSING - Michigan State cornerback Jaren Hayes has been suspended from the team indefinitely.
Coach John L. Smith suspended Hayes for an off-the-field incident, said assistant athletic director John Lewandowski, who declined to elaborate.
"Coach Smith will determine the criteria for Jaren's return to the active roster, but there is no timeline for his return," Lewandowski said.
There was no answer Friday at the East Lansing phone number listed for Hayes. Michigan State also lists a number in Hayes' hometown of Lebanon, Pa. A woman who answered the phone there said Hayes was unavailable and refused to say how he could be reached.
