Dear Jason,

You're ready for Step #2. Wear a silk shirt and jeans to next year's Heisman Trophy presentation.

Sincerely,

Too bad for White, that sucks the guy can't keep it going at the next level.

Hopefully the guy breaks into coaching somewhere. Graduate assistant at OU?

This was why I thought it was crazy (and stupid) to come back to OU for a six season. He probably could have earned himself a little scratch before deciding that he needed to hang it up. Instead, he ruined his body for another season for what, to get his ass kicked in the NC game?

KId has future in coaching and he received not only a degree but damn near finished his masters in those six years. I don't think JW had any delusions of being a long term QB in the NFL but atleast he set himself up in the long term with an education; which is what your supposed to be in college for at any rate.

Props to White for making Crouch and Torretta feel better about themselves. What a guy.

Seriously though, I do hope he can work the coaching thing like Heupel and Applewhite have.

See, the thing about Jason "doing the coaching thing," is that, as well as he managed games, he was no Huepel or Applewhite. Those guys MANAGED games... White, while he did have better numbers, wasn't the player that they were, IMHumbleO. ...and this isn't a "me looking back on it" thing, but an "in-game adjustment" thing. Huepel would call audibles at the LOS on almost every play it seemed like, and they'd almost always be the right call. White, at times, had the Brett Favre attitude of, "I've got the arm, and the receivers, and I'm slinging it in there... let's see what happens next."

Also, he was too proud (which isn't a fault, but it WAS a contributing factor to his "performance" in the last couple of championship games...) to admit that he was in a lot of pain... Against the mediocre teams of the world (Texas, Nebraska... :D) that's fine, but against the good teams (LSU, USC) it gets you in trouble...

I wish him all the best wherever he goes and whatever he does... he's a Hell of a person and was a great ballplayer, as well as a state legend for the rest of his life. I just don't think that he's gonna be roaming the sidelines in a headset anytime soon...

No, maybe you don't get what I am saying. He could have gone to the NFL for a season earned himself some money and then gone back to school with a little nest egg. Maybe that's where you and I differ. Maybe he felt that he knew that he wouldn't make it in the NFL and that's why he decided to put his whole heart in for another season. Regardless, the guy didn't have to come back and he did. It didn't end well. Nice that he finished some schooling, but IMO he embarrassed himself on the field and spread even more doubt as to why he was picked as a Heisman winner.

Let's be real here. Yes, the players are supposed to be here to go to school, but I think Sooner fans would have been screaming if White had decided to quit the NFL and not go out for the 6th year if he wanted to concentrate on schooling. I think any fan would. That's all nice and good that we can pat each other on the backs and go 'Well, at least he got an education', but the guy ruined his knees and is in for years of pain. Will he get a severance from OU? It's unheard of. Players today need to balance their commitment to the team and their need to take care of themselves. Who's going to pay for his future years of medical bills and physical therapy that he made need if his knees hurt that badly? Jason White. Tell me again why it was worth it to torture his body for sixth year. The guy could have sat out for that year and got his education if it's so important to you.

An another thing, if graduating players was so important then someone like Frank Solich would still be coach at NU right now. When I hear that a recruit has signed with NU, I don't immediately wonder what he's going to major in, I wonder how he can contribute to the team. If you tell me that you do, then I'm calling you a liar...

Im sure that White saying his reason for retiring was "physical" is a nice way of saying he just wasnt that good of a QB.
If Jason was that beat up last year why wasnt he in a knee brace, why was he saying that the orange bowl would be different than the sugar bowl because he is healthy?
Its a cover up, White retired because he just doesnt have the mental capacity to understand play books. white lacks the mental calm to progress through reads and make the correct decision. Its obvious from the Orange Bowl, jason locks in on one wr before the snap and threw in to multiple coverage because he was unable to read zones.

There wasn't a single damn receiver "open" for OU nearly that entire damn game. I know USC fan's head is all big and because their team won a national championchip suddenly now you are all fucking experts. Get off your damn high horse and watch your tape of the Orange Bowl shalacking a couple more times. White only threw ONE straight up interception the entire game and that was a ball the USC Dback pulled out of the sky; every other interception was off a tipped ball and on one occasion because Mark Bradley made a mistake and turned the wrong direction on the cut and a condom Dback was standing right there to make the Sooners pay for it. Mark Bradley has admitted this in interviews following the game, that the pick was "on him". He also has stated that that was probably the most horrible and mistake ridden football game he ever played in the Crimson and Cream. Most of his passes were to the thrid and fourth man down in the the read or on the scramble, once again because no one was open. Fact of the matter is that Chuck Long did a piss poor job of planning and preparing for the game along with Bo Pelini's sorry sack of shit ass (Bo had that problem every damn game last year though that we didn't just out athgelete the oppenant in). Jason did what he could with a shit game plan that consisted of AD up the middle, lob, AD up the middle, out & Fade, AD up the middle, Lob, AD up the middle and alot of prayer.

As far as HFAL goes; just like BtH stated there were more questions about Jason White's knee after the 2004 season that there were after this last one. Jason was unlikely to be drafted in either draft by much less likely after the 2004 campaign than after the 2005 one.

I beg to differ. I think White may have gotten drafted after his fifth season because there was doubt, but still, he had just won the Heisman. I think the sixth season just solidified those doubts about his performance in big games. That hurt him more than anything.

I don't understand why I'm getting flack for asking whether or not White could have avoided more pain by skipping his sixth season. Yes, he got more education, but like I said, he could have gotten paid probably as a back up for one year and gone back to school with less pain. I just feel bad as if he wasted his knees on a year that he didn't have to. I feel his pain...

Kind of self serving for White to say he is retiring, he would have had to actually play in the NFL before he can retire from it. Looks more like he was just cut from a few teams after nobody thought enough of him to draft him.

Gee thanks Ernie Zampese. I guess since Sc has won a few games all you fucking condom fans are experts. I wonder how all yo a-holes (except for a select few) will react once your beloved condoms burst. It won't happen this year because your schedule is shit, but maybe next.

Jessica Hopp wrote:Titans' Jason White announces retirement

Undrafted quarterback is former Heisman winner

By JESSICA HOPP

Titans quarterback Jason White, the 2003 Heisman Trophy winner while at the University of Oklahoma, announced his retirement from the NFL today.

White signed with the Titans as an undrafted free agent in May. He said lingering knee problems from injuries incurred in college were preventing him from being able to perform at full capacity.

“Sometimes I think that you have to swallow your pride a little bit and know when you are done,” said White, who is Oklahoma’s all-time passing leader with 7,922 yards and 81 touchdown passes.

White was one of four rookie quarterbacks signed by the Titans camp to vie for the No. 3 position behind veterans Steve McNair and Billy Volek.

“We made a commitment to him when we signed him that he was going to get a chance to play,” Titans Coach Jeff Fisher said. “Obviously we fully intended on keeping that commitment and had it not been an issue with the knees he would have played and played quite a bit and there’s no telling what happens after that.

“Look at his numbers and look what he’s done. He’s been able to move offenses and win games. You don’t necessarily, at that position, have to be the most athletic or the most gifted or have to be the strongest arm. You have to move the offense and you have to have the intangibles and that’s what he’s had. And that’s what he’s proven in a great college career.”

Kinda like if you said you retired from "smack" or "posting quality takes"? Didn't take long for you to show your true colors.

Jason White...Jason White...oh, yeah, the Sooner QB who dogfucked the Big 12 championship game and the "BCS championship game" a couple of years ago, right? I didn't even know he got to play.
