It is not the fact that he missed 3 FG that bothers me....much. What bothers me is that those weren't even close. He only hit the ball well 1 time, and it was pretty obvious that he wasn't really aiming that one, just trying to hit it well. IF this was a timing thing, I could understand it, being a preseason game. But if you can't even hit the ball cleanly, something needs to be done now.
The timing on the Chargers offense was not good. Then again, it won't be on the first game. Run blocking was good, but those are 2nd string DT's. Pass protection was OK, even against their starting DE. I thought Rivers looked OK once he settled down. Very uptight to start though. Lemon actually looked OK, which is to say he might actually be an OK 3rd string guy. Turner played great and he breaks tackles. IMO there is no way Sproles will beat him out for the backup job. Sproles goes down too easily although the wet surface probably happered his game somewhat, but he wont break any tackles at all in the NFL as a RB.
The DL looked OK. At this point the run defense is going to be way ahead of the pass rush. The 34 needs to scheme to get pass rush, and try and free someone up to get pressure, and the Bolts don't gameplan their preseason games, so they won't look that good. They did a great job of keeping the GB OL off of our LB. Rookie Louis Casitllo got thrown around some, but even he showed a nice quick jump off the ball. LB Matt Wilhelm looked very good and has the chance to move inside and replace Donnie Edwards eventually..

Agreed.Joe in PB wrote:I hate to say it but I think its time to dump Kaeding the headcase. At the very least the Chargers should bring another kicker into camp and make Kaeding earn his roster spot.......if he still can.
After costing the Bolts in the playoffs, and last night's debacle there is nothing Marty can do but bring another kicker in.........
Wait.........
This is Marty we're talking about.
Marty brought Lin Elliott to KC after the Cowboy's had cut him. He was clearly in decline but Marty stuck with him and we watched a 13-3 season go right down the fucking tubes.
No way he cuts a 3rd round draft choice.
Sucks for you guys, Joe - But Marty is not one to admit a mistake

What's that on the ground under the kicker's right heel?KC Scott wrote:The Curse of Marty Lives on........
Looks like one of those old field-goal tees to me. WTF is dude using one of those for- even in warm-ups? I don't think they even allow them in High School ball anymore, and the NFL has NEVER allowed them.
And this guy needs a fucking tee?
Can you say "Blocked Kick"?
I hope so, because it looks like Charger Fan will be getting a lot of reps saying it.

Why is the picture so blurry? and what is that stuff falling from the sky...and what is that white stuff piled up on the sideline?
hey I don't know, 3 misses from outside the 43 in a driving rain storm. I'll withhold my judgement for a few more weeks.
Bring another kicker in? absofreekinlutely.

Good eye though. You may have also noted the #48 doing the holding, further indicating that it is not a FG attempt. Unless QBs are wearing numbers in the forties now.
Was it snowing or raining in San Diego on January 8?ChargerMike wrote:Why is the picture so blurry? and what is that stuff falling from the sky...and what is that white stuff piled up on the sideline?

Schottenheimer sticking with errant kicker Kaeding
August 13, 2005
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer is standing by Nate Kaeding even though the wayward kicker has missed his last four field-goal attempts dating to the playoff loss to the New York Jets.
``I think we can work this out without any difficulty,'' Schottenheimer said Saturday, when the Chargers practiced for the first time since their 10-7 loss at Green Bay on Thursday night in their exhibition opener.
Kaeding was wide left from 45 yards and then wide right from 44 and 46 in the closing minutes on Thursday.

``He was probably rushing it a little bit; the tempo of it was a little quicker,'' Schottenheimer said. ``But hes in a slump.
``I have every confidence in the world in him. I think he is going to be a terrific kicker in this league because of the way he is: his makeup, his mental makeup, his emotional makeup, hes a very strong-minded person and he knows he has to make them. His biggest frustration is he hasnt been able to nail them.''
Schottenheimer said Kaeding isn't in danger of losing his job.
``I dont know that there is anybody that could come in here and give him legitimate competition,'' Schottenheimer said. ``He competes against himself as most people that are involved in a single task. If a guy makes a mistake on offense or defense, there are 10 other people who may have had a hand in that. When you're out there as a placekicker, it's just you, just like a golfer.''
On Jan. 8, Kaeding was wide right from 40 yards with 4:19 left in overtime of a wild-card playoff game against the Jets on a wet field at home. Doug Brien kicked a 28-yarder with 5 seconds left to give the Jets a 20-17 win.
``I dont have much of an explanation -- its a tough feeling, Kaeding said. ``Its something that I have been living with for five months and Ive set myself up for a difficult course coming up.
``There is no justification for it. I feel bad about it and its something that you sit on and its putting my character to a test.
Green Bay's Ryan Longwell kicked a 53-yarder with 33 seconds remaining in Thursday night's game, which was played in a steady drizzle.
``This isnt San Diego, Longwell said afterward. ``This is August with our good weather.
