VICKSBURG LAKERS
Roster (*=Starter)
QB: D. Culpepper*, C. Pennington
RB: C. Portis*, J. Bettis, K. Barlow
WR: J. Horn*, D. Mason*, I. Bruce*, K. Colbert, P. Price, B. Lloyd
TE: T. Gonzalez*, H. Miller
D/ST: Carolina*, Minnesota
K: M. Vanderjagt*

Round By Round
1. C. Portis
2. D. Culpepper
3. J. Horn
4. T. Gonzalez
5. D. Mason
6. I. Bruce
7. J. Bettis
8. K. Barlow
9. C. Pennington
10. H. Miller
11. M. Vanderjagt
12. Carolina (D/ST)
13. K. Colbert
14. P. Price
15. Minnesota (D/ST)
16. B. Lloyd

My initial thoughts looking at my team is I wish I had a better #2 RB behind Portis. I'd prefer to start 2 RB instead of 3 WR.

Thoughts?

Your initial thoughts are correct.

Tony at 4, nice. D Mason at 5, even better. Horn at 3? I gotta think there was a pretty decent back available at that pick.

TGonz in the 4th, Vanderjagt in the 11th and the Panthers D in the 12th were great picks, you took Horn too high though. What pick did you have in the 1st round? The top 3 picks should have been LT, Holmes and Manning. I'm not sure that the Redskins offense will be scoring that many points again this year.

Not bad at all. I think you could have got someone better than Bust Barlow. Other than that your draft looks pretty solid.

In our draft, running backs were picked early and often. Only four non-running backs (Manning, Culpepper, Moss, Holt) were taking in the first two rounds. Six teams chose two running backs with their first two picks and two teams took running backs in each of their first three rounds. In the second round, I had the 12th overall pick and since my next choice wasn't going to be until the 29th pick, I wanted to get an elite QB in Culpepper and opted against taking guys like Dillon, Green, Barber and Martin. In the third round, the pick of the litter with running back was getting thin. Believe me, that third round pick was a difficult one to make. Stephen Jackson and Brian Westbrook were taken ahead of me in the third round. The best guys available were Tatum Bell, Carnell Williams and Thomas Jones. Between Horn and those three, I chose Horn. Later in the draft, I found that there were more quality QBs and WRs available than RBs. Looking back, I probably should've taken a RB with the second pick and took a QB later instead of picking Culpepper. With Pennington as my #2 QB, I may opt to trade Culpepper to get a top flight running back.

If my math is correct (sup Wags?) you picked 9th - On my board I have Portis the 13th best player and 10th rated RB. Cullpepper is rated 12 so he was right on target.

I just don't think the Skins are gonna score much, hence his rating at RB.

1. C. Portis - Too High
2. D. Culpepper - Good
3. J. Horn - Consistent - Was Chad Johnson, TO or Harrison available?
4. T. Gonzalez Good
5. D. Mason - High - Don't think he'll have near the #'s w/ Boeller
6. I. Bruce - Good
7. J. Bettis - Good - Staley is hurt - the Bus will gett a lot of early season work
8. K. Barlow - Sucks - but it was the 8th round
9. C. Pennington Good value late
10. H. Miller - Good for a 2nd TE
11. M. Vanderjagt - Best Kicker
12. Carolina (D/ST) Great D
13. K. Colbert - Good
14. P. Price -Sucks But not bad for 14th round
15. Minnesota (D/ST) OK
16. B. Lloyd - Will catch the few balls Smith completes

Tatum Bell is 2nd on Denvers depth chart - can't figure that out, Cadillac would have been the pick here.

You need to watch Pennington for a couple weeks before trying to make that deal. I'd look another way and package Pennigton, Mason & Portis for a better RB and and WR

You don't give your scoring system, so it's tough to make absolute call:
