'Stumble' is extremely lucky to have Jacques Martin coaching that team. He seems to love floaters. *cough* Bonk *cough*

The Canucks will never win a Stanley Cup with that guy in net. They're still a contender but he's going to be their downfall.

Wow! Only 1 mil, that's half of what the duck are paying Rob neidermeyer. Selanne's best years might be behind him, but if this "new area NHL" takes off, he could be one of the stars again.

That's a great value signing, but they are getting really close to the cap.

From TSN: Anahiem is at 35.2 million for 18 players (2 salaries undisclosed). If their roster is going to be 24 players, that means that they have to sign 8 players with the remaining 3.8 million they have left.

Ducks ease some of their cap issues...trade Rucchin to the Rangers for a minor leaguer.

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=134361

They also traded Leclerc to Phoenix.

Wonder who the new Ducks captain is going to be....my guess would be Scott Neidermeyer.

The Detroit Red Wings announced Wednesday that the club has signed defencemen Andreas Lilja and center Don MacLean to one-year contracts.

2 ex-Kings, Lilja that they should never traded for that piece of CRAP Yushkevich. MacLean is a career AHLer, good depth addition.

With their cap situation, they're pretty much down to signing minor league depth guys for the minimum so they'll have the cap room to sign Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Kronwall. They won't be a dominant four line team anymore. The fourth line will consist of some of these free agents they've signed or guys from the minor leagues. As long as they're able to re-sign Datsyuk and Zetterberg, they should still be a strong offensive club but they just won't have the depth they used to have. The majority of their roster are one year contracts so they'll be more active in free agency next year.

The Wings signed their goalie of the future, Jim Howard, who leaves Maine after only his junior year...

http://goblackbears.collegesports.com/s ... 05aaa.html

He won't compete for the starting job at least for this year since Osgood and Legace are here. Since both of their contracts are up at the end of the season and if Howard has a big year in Grand Rapids, he could make the jump to the NHL next year.

Yup, Savage is the NHL's version of Mr. October. Scores 5-10 goals in the first month and then reverts back to the crap player that he normally is.

But you don't disagree..

Glad I made the road trip last year for my daughter to see the Expos play, meet Youppi and get a couple of pictures taken before he defected to the Habs.

Oh......J........what up dog?!?!?

I wasn't talking about you (really).

It will be fun to watch, that's for sure. And considering the Flames have a history of playing the Wings tough, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tiny bit concerned. I stand by my prediction. It will be funny to watch all the hand-wringing when the Flames hit their annual February wall

With all the hoopla up here in bandwagonland, you'd swear these guys are the second coming of the '70's Canadiens. The hyperbole is almost comical.

Hap:...... Hyperbole means exaggeration.

I have to say the expectations around here are pretty high, probably too high. And everyone and their dog seems to be "die-hard Flames fans" these days too... likely story.

But it's a welcome change from the days of seeing 10 year old kids at the mall wearing Avalanche hats and jerseys, of Harley Hotchkiss begging Calgarians to buy tickets, of watching Don Hay send out lines consisting of talentless midgets.

Things are definitely different around here this fall, but it's different in the way that I wished it was 5 years ago.

Success has a way of doing that... the Joe wasn't exactly overflowing in the 80's when the Wings were lousy either.

I'm happy for all y'all that saw it through to this point. It's heart warming, really.

In other news, for the first time in 15 years I may not see the Wings play live.
