Death Cab For Cutie - Plans
I'm on song #5 and so far it's EXCELLENT! Didn't think it'd be so good following Transatlanticism, which I loved.
This album won't be released until August 30th, so don't ask how I got it. ;)

Round here, they kinda went from the Crystal, to The Bite, to the Crystal.
Not the biggest, but definitely the nicest hall in town. But that's what the "cool kids" do these days -- move to Portland, and play the Crystal as much as possible. The Mcmenamins strike again.

The bouncing hardwood floor goes quelle well with alcohol intoxication.Moorese wrote: love the Crystal and that trampoline floor.
For everyone else, the floor there is this ancient old "floating dance floor," that is flexible and bounces up and down with the crowd and the subwoofer. Very cool when you're wasted.

Nice shows coming up at the Crystal, but that's nothing new. I'm hitting Arcade Fire in a few weeks (9/21, I think) at the Paramount, then Sigur Ros the following week. Son Volt is playing Bumbershoot, but not the main stage (thankfully). Of all places, they got slotted for McCaw, Seattle's new buhzillion dollar opera hall. Most fucking excellent.
When life hands you a park steak, you'd better motherfucking ISSUE it.

I'm actually kind of in agreement. I really dig the disc, but caught them at Sasquatch and was very much underwhelmed. Dude was bitching about how they just arrived from Spain, then the fucking idiots proceeded to sweat off pounds of makeup in the sweltering dryside heat. They looked pretty fucking stooopid standing around in soaking wet velvet waistcoats and pantaloons, and the set was sloppy.Dinsdale wrote:Arcade Fire seems to be blowing up. Have yet to be impressed.
I'm giving them another chance live mostly because I so dig the record. (Same goes for Sigur Ros, who were nap-inducing live.)

If anyone ever gets a chance to see these guys, I highly recommend dropping the $10 or whatever miniscule amount it will inevitably be...an alt/pop rock band from Montreal (sup Arcade Fire). First saw them open up for Modest Mouse (who I thought outperformed MM...like that's hard to do) and I'm going to catch them as headliners this time at the Magic Stick in Detroit in October...just days after Lou Barlow and some time slightly after Death Cab at the Michigan Theatre...damn, RACK the month of October.Dinsdale wrote:Wolf Parade
I have a bootleg of a Minneapolis show...the playing sounds poor. Obviously it's just a bootleg, but it's telling enough of what to expect. I just hope the expected energy of the show makes up for it.I'm actually kind of in agreement. I really dig the disc, but caught them at Sasquatch and was very much underwhelmed
Being a non-U&Ler, you get a pass. You're obviously not familiar with the McMenamins.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:If anyone ever gets a chance to see these guys, I highly recommend dropping the $10 or whatever miniscule amount it will inevitably be
Wolf Parade is opening for Arcade Fire-btw.
Ticket price isn't listed because it's sold out. My guess would be probably $25 advance.
