Porcupine Tree

Post by MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan »

I'd been meaning to check these guys out for a while now and I finally got around to picking up their latest CD, Deadwing. Turns out it's really really really good. I'm gonna have to start working on the back catalog. Anybody else into these guys?

I have Absentia, or something close to that name, and it pretty much blows three toed sloth cack. Good thing I didn't pay for it.

Been listening to Porcupine Tree for the past couple of months. They're my new favorite "where the fuck were these guys when I was doing drugs?" band.

Thanks for the heads up on tour dates. I'll have to check them out in PHX, although I've never heard of the Arizona Beach Club in the 5 fucking years I've been here. What kind of a dumbass name is that anyway? Is that affiliated with the Nebraska Mountain Club?

Former Club Rio opens as Arizona Beach Club

A beach theme nightclub is rising from Club Rio's ashes.

Today, the Arizona Beach Club will open its doors for an 18-and-older party night. On Friday and Saturday, the bar will have its grand opening.

Arizona Beach Club co-owner Greg D'Angelo said the nightspot will have a completely different vibe than its former incarnation, Club Rio, a longtime Tempe nightspot.

"It will be a venue that is constantly evolving and changing," said D'Angelo, who was a deejay at the old Club Rio. "We are much more entertainment-driven than before."

Club Rio, which opened as the Devil House in 1981, was known for foam parties, potent Long Island ice tea, a huge patio and live entertainment. Green Day, Erykah Badu, Eminem, Bad Religion and the Roots have taken the stage there over the years.

In 2004, Club Rio closed its doors at 430 N. Scottsdale Road after it was sold to developers who planned to build high-rise condos. The project, however, isn't expected to break ground for another four or five years, D'Angelo said.

few national acts have agreed to perform this summer. Digital Underground will perform July 1, he said.

"That's what this area really needs, a place where you can see a concert and hang out afterward," D'Angelo said.
