Jon, get in here...
First we need to check your pulse, make sure he is still breathing.
Then we need to give him crap for his Miami and Iowa picks.

I don't think we'll be seeing Jonsense again... unless the shower rod was too weak.

The game wasn't even close, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, props the the clones for showing they are still Iowa's biggest rival. Granted Tate was out and Ferentz will definitely right the ship, but this was still a major victory for the clones and the 12.
JON better get in here soon. The one thing I respected about him was that he represented his team BEFORE they came to national prominence, which is more than some here can say. Now is the time to sack-up, take your lumps like a man, and keep representing.

The best part of the day was on the drive back from Ames to Des Moines and seeing all the wives and girlfriends driving cars festooned with Herky regalia while thier boyfriends and husbands hung thier heads in shame.
We actually had quite a few Hawk fans around us and they were all very decent......and quiet. I really don't think they saw that butt raping coming.
That was the first Iowa v Iowa State game I've ever been to that didn't have a significant portion of the crowd donning the black and gold satin.
It was truly a marvelous day.

The second most beautiful thing is to listen to all the call in shows on TV and radio, to hear some Iowa fans call for the series to be ended or at least not be played that often. Hawkeye nation is gripping right now.
This is the typical hawkfan before the game-ISU doesn't belong on the same field as Iowa. Iowa is playing on another level. This is just another game.
after the game- Iowa got beat by an average football team. Iowa is going to go 4-7 the rest of the year. That was a trap game, Iowa had nothing to win by beating ISU. We should only play it one every 10 years.
Generally I root for the Hawkeyes on most occasions...it's an Iowa thing, but I have to admit I am no fan of thier fan base and this has been a watershed weekend for me. I
N the words of Hawkeye homer Jim Zabel....I love it, I love it, I love it!

Sorry, I was not hiding from anyone, just haven't had a chance to respond...
Twister, mad mad props. Your team earned it, your team played harder than ours, and deserved the W. The better team on Saturday won the game. Plain and simple.
I was shocked at how Iowa played. I knew ISU would bring their A game for Iowa. They always do, and credit them for that. But for Iowa to come out and not even be able to snap the damn ball, catch passes, hit open receivers, drop balls, snap the ball over the QBs head, etc.. is simply inexcuseable.
Twister, did you happen to listen to Deace yesterday? He replayed the SoundOff show on WHO from Saturday. It really wasn't that bad. Most of the fans gave ISU their due credit. Deace is really bitter about something. He is a sad sad person. I even had a few ISU fans come up to me today at work to tell me that Deace does not represent the ISU fan base. Not that I needed them to tell me that because I know that. ISU fans are not bigots filled with hatred.
Now, it's time for ISU to play like this EVERY game. You always want to beat your rival but we play the 2nd week of the season every year and it isn't even a conference game. McCarney has about a 25% winning percentage in conference games. It's nice to have bragging rights, but it's time for ISU to do something other than win in September.
But props to your Clonies. Hopefully, next year, Ferentz will embrace this great rivalry and we'll have ourselves a much better game in Kinnick!

Way to sack up.
Yes I did listen to Deace. The beautiful thing about his broadcast was, it was simply a rebroadcasting of the emotionally projectile vomiting that occured on Saturday's Sound Off. Deace didn't have to do anything, the jihadic wing of the Hawkeye nation did it for him.
And if ISU had spent the better part of the last week calling me up and telling me over and over how Iowa didn't deserve to be on the field with ISU, rattled off all the tradition and past history, preceded to predict the football team would score more points than thier basketball team averages, and then soundly get thier asses whooped........I would expect him to do the same to ISU fan.
Face it, not all Hawk fans, but a large and vocal portion of the Hawkeye Nation needs a mirror held up to thier arrogance while they choke on a little bit of humble pie. Perhaps next year, a few of those fellows will show a little respect not just to ISU but to every opponent they play.
Anyway, I had a great time with a lot of Hawk fans on saturday and the ones that sat near us, while silent, were good natured and respectful. And I was glad to see the F-Iowa shirts disappear...for the most part.
Well Jon, there's always basket........ummmm.......sorry.......there's always next years football game.

I actually think there are going to be 3 Sweet 16 teams from Iowa this year. Iowa, ISU, and UNI are all going to be Top 20. And I'm going to definitely get a ticket to the Iowa-ISU game. Be nice to see Adam return to Hilton!! But that's some discussion to save for November...
So what's your prediction for the rest of Iowa and ISU's season. I think both go 8-3. If so, maybe we'll get a rematch in San Antonio. I've always wanted to play ISU in a bowl game. I think that would be great for the state. Seeing all the Iowans running smack at each other and invading another city in another state would be awesome.

Iowa's not going to be in the NCAAs let alone the sweet sixteen. No depth. On the positive side, this could be Alfords last season.
I really don't know how the rest of the season will go for each team. I'll have a better idea after the next couple of games. As you well know, ISU has never had a reputation for consistency, but then again we've never had a football team with this much talent and desire to win either.
As long as Kirk Ferentz is head coach at Iowa, they'll compete for the Big 10. There wasn't anything in that game Saturday that couldn't be fixed. The D-Line is only going to get better and Young is going to have some big games ahead.
I just don't see any Bowl chairman salivating at the thought of an Iowa Iowa State rematch. Mostly because they know ratings and ad revenues would be dismal. Everyone that cared would be at the game. I think the only time we are likely to ever see Iowa v Iowa State in a bowl matchup would be in the BCS championship game. And wouldn't that be a hoot. No losers in that game except the other 98% of the country.

It would draw better ratings than the Pitt-Utah Fiesta Bowl!!
I'm not sure the NCAA cares much anymore about ratings for the bowl games. I sure as hell would guarantee you more people would watch an Iowa-ISU game than a Troy vs Northern Illinois game or a North Texas vs West Des Moines Valley High School!
There are so many bowls out there that no one is watching anyways. I think if both Iowa and ISU were 8-3 and available when the Alamo Bowl gets to select, I see no reason they wouldn't pick that game. First off, it would sell-out in about 10 minutes. And 2nd off, it would match up probably 2 ranked teams which doesn't usually happen in the Alamo Bowl. I don't think there would be any less national interest than your average Alamo Bowl. Heck, Texas Tech is in that game every other year and who the hell gives a damn about them??
Not that it really matters, though, because it's unlikely that Iowa and ISU would both be available to play in the same game anyways. But it sure would be a lot of fun.

111 meetings between the two? Yeah, I'd say it is a pretty good rivalry. Sure, they hold the all time reocrd by a wide margin but they also hold a wide margin over OU which will be playing them for the 100th time next month.MisterTwister wrote:If you can call A&M v Texas a great rivalry than Jon can call ISU v Iowa one too.

This could be Iowa v Minnesota, UCLA v USC, Harvard v Yale. In other words a long running rivalry with plenty of passion but outside the faithful, just another football game. That's all I'm saying.
2nd oldest rivalry in CFB. very heated and hate flows. but neither team worth a fuck. It has more than just a Football history thing going. Jayhawkers and Missourians killed each other, burned their towns, and pillaged each other for decades, a lot of bad blood.but 99% of peeps don't give a fuck, because both blow!
