18 combined power plays!

Post by Cross Traffic »

Was looking at the Carolina/Washington game: PP 4 of 14 for Carolina/0 for 4 for Washington. Looks like the league is being serious about the clutching and holding.

Stillman, Mike Zigomanis), 13:41. 2, Carolina, Justin Williams 1
(shorthanded) (Unassisted), 15:14. Penalties: J Halpern, Was
(hooking), 0:19; C Clark, Was (slashing), 2:03; O Fussey, Was
(tripping), 5:29; J Fortin, Was (holding), 9:50; B Gordon, Was
(hooking), 11:38; J Fortin, Was (hooking), 12:36; D Richmond, Car
(hooking), 14:37; R Gomez, Was (major fighting), 17:02; M Commodore,
Car (major fighting), 17:02; B Witt, Was (hooking), 17:09.

SECOND PERIOD -- Scoring: 3, Carolina, Mike Zigomanis 1 (power play)
(Cory Stillman, Oleg Tverdovsky), 1:14. 4, Carolina, Matt Cullen 1
(power play) (Radim Vrbata, Mike Zigomanis), 10:03. Penalties: E
Fehr, Was (interference), 0:03; J Schultz, Was (interference), 0:22; J
Williams, Car (holding), 3:29; M Pettinger, Was (hooking), 9:17; J
Williams, Car (holding), 12:42; R Gomez, Was (hooking), 19:26.

THIRD PERIOD -- Scoring: 5, Carolina, Colin Forbes 1 (Rod Brind'Amour,
Justin Williams), 4:28. 6, Carolina, Cory Stillman 1 (power play) (Rod
Brind'Amour, Andrew Hutchinson), 12:43. Penalties: B Kane, Was
(holding), 6:49; C Forbes, Car (holding), 10:31; Bench, Was (too many
men served by J Klepis), 12:02; J Schultz, Was (holding), 16:38.

With all the other changes I think this may be the one year that they stick to their no obstrution rules, however I'm reserving judgment until December.

And I hope that if the new rules stick for the regular season that they will call the game the same way in the playoffs.

1st period

hooking 0:19; slashing 2:03;
tripping 5:29; holding 9:50;
hooking 11:38; hooking 12:36;
hooking 14:37
major fighting 17:02;
major fighting 17:02;
hooking 17:09.

2nd period
interference 0:03; interference 0:22;
holding 3:29; hooking 9:17;
holding 12:42; hooking 19:26.

3rd period
holding 6:49; holding 10:31;
too many men 12:02; holding 16:38.

Well that will certainly help with the flow of the game.
I didn't see the game but it does appear that either the players were getting the message as it progressed or the refs were ready to start the regular season by the end of the first period.
10-6-4

As usual, by the end of Janurary they'll be down to their one per month whistle exchange maintenance schedule.
