i guess i was thinking of the brighten the corners LP specifically re: pavement and MM.
i'll also note that the Flaming Lips released 5 LP's and an eponymous debut EP before Transmissions from the Satellite Heart (the one with She Don't Use Jelly)--
i woulnd't really call that "earlier" stuff. They had been a band for almost 10 years when T from the SH came out.
