Delay Indicted?
The OL just called and told me she heard on the radio that the #1 Congressional crook was just indicted.
Anybody heard anything about this?
Anybody heard anything about this?
It was the final day of the Grand Jury's term. I guess they had to do something.mvscal wrote:This is a political manuever. It will be enough to bump Delay out of his leadership position while he deals with it, though.
This prosecutor pulled the same shit on Kay Bailey Hutchison back in the 90s. Not so surprisingly, he dropped the charges before trial.

It's definitely political and he is definitely guilty.mvscal wrote:This is a political manuever. It will be enough to bump Delay out of his leadership position while he deals with it, though.

It's hilarious that SYNW can be so confident of a guilty verdict despite having not read the indictment, not been privy to the grand jury testimony, etc. Here's my first take on this indictment (I've only read the indictment and nothing more for now):
The indictment is three pages in length. Other than a statement that "one or more" of 3 individuals, including Tom DeLay, entered into an illegal conspiracy, I can't find a single sentence tying Tom DeLay to a crime. That is, there's not a single sentence tying DeLay to the contribution. The indictment describes the alleged conduct of two other individuals, but nothing about DeLay. You would think if Ronnie Earle had even a thin reed of testimony linking DeLay to the contribution, it would have been noted in the indictment to justify the grand jury's action. Moreover, not only is there no information about DeLay committing acts in furtherance of a conspiracy, there's no information about DeLay entering into a conspiracy. I honestly believe that unless there's more, this is an egregious abuse of prosecutorial power. It's a disgrace. I understand that not everything has to be contained in an indictment, but how about something!

That is DeLay's PAC, fyi. If he didn't know about it, then he's an idiot.

I wonder if Mikey, SYNW, et al will eat crow on T1B for being so quick to believe that DeLay is guilt of anything.
My understanding of the law DeLay is being indicted under doesn't even require an overt act in order to be convicted.
And knowing how many of these "serious questions" have ended up being nothing...well, DeLay will beat this rather easily, though, I suspect the Demodummies will play it for as much as possible with their media lackeys carrying the water for them.

This whole administration reminds me of when I was a kid during the Nixon years. An unpopular war, accusations and acrimony, indictments and investigations, a general feeling of mistrust and divisiveness in the country, and a president who is said to be somewhat of a megalomaniac behind closed doors. There are a bunch of similarities. Scary.

ohhhh SNAP!On Wednesday, DeLay was indicted with two aides by a Texas grand jury, accused of flouting campaign finance laws by illegally sending corporate funds to GOP candidates in the state. Two months ago, Abramoff was arrested and charged with fraud in connection with a casino deal in Florida. On Tuesday, two employees of a company owned by Abramoff were charged with murdering the casino's former owner. Last week, the feds arrested David Safavian, who has been working in the White House, on charges of lying to investigators about a trip to Scotland with DeLay and Abramoff. Scanlon, the former DeLay aide who worked with Abramoff, is said to be cooperating with investigators, who are likely to file even more charges.

And what does the fact that the same clowns who demonized Ken Starr for doing his job gloss over the track record of political prosecutions by this partsan hack bring to mind?Terry in Crapchester wrote:For some reason, the fact that DeLay and his minions are labeling Earle a partisan fanatic brings pots and kettles to mind.

No alleged wrongdoing vs. Lying to a grand jury

12 of the 15 prosecutions Earl has brought against public officials have been against Democrats.Diogenes wrote:And what does the fact that the same clowns who demonized Ken Starr for doing his job gloss over the track record of political prosecutions by this partsan hack bring to mind?Terry in Crapchester wrote:For some reason, the fact that DeLay and his minions are labeling Earle a partisan fanatic brings pots and kettles to mind.
Yeah, I guess he's a partisan hack. Whenever he goes after your particular hero.

Funny, the conviction of Jim Guy Tucker had nothing to do with Whitewater or Bill Clinton.mvscal wrote:Starr's investigations resulted in 14 felony convictions including the Governor of Arkansas.BSmack wrote:Lying about a blowjob

After 50 million dollars and years of digging, the only thing Starr could pin on Clinton was that he is a serial horn dog.mvscal wrote:Yeah, he just managed to clip everyone around Clinton. Friends, business associates etc.
Suuuure Bubba wasn't up to anything illegal or unethical. Good thing for him he had the powers of the Presidency available to him and his wife. It sure made it easy to ignore subpoenas, stonewall the investigation and dig up dirt on political enemies.
To say this was just about a blow job is beyond even your accustomed imbecility and intellectual dishonesty.
Which means if his name were Arnold Schwarzenegger, you would have voted for him.
