question about file recognition and windows media player

I downloaded a file from a share site and the file isnt recognized by my player, even though the icon looks like a media player icon.

An ace file???

I am also unclear about emulators.

Ace files are compressed. Use winrar to unzip it... and sit back while your computer gets infected by a virus.

It looks like it's a Super Nintendo ROM.
