Shoalzie......

Post by WolverineSteve »

I'm listening to Stoney & Wojo for the first time in years. They're saying that there are tickets available for tonights game. Don't the Wings have some massive sellout streak on the line. Could the fans of Hockeytown be pissed at the players? I never thought they would fail to sellout (I know they still might sellout with walk-ups).

I'd be stunned if they don't sell out. I'm going to the game...I bought my ticket the day the individual games went on sale. Usually the big games will sell out right away but you'll be able to find the odd seats here and there. I'd be disappointed if they can't sell out for opening night. I just checked Ticketmaster, no tickets were available. I guess it really depends on who you go through to get tickets. I'm positive we'll see a full house tonight. For those who don't want to go back to the rink, there are plenty of people who would be happy to go in their place. The Wings are fully capable of getting 20,000 fans for each home game. I'm sure some fans would've prefered to get a bit of discount or reduction in prices but the Wings should still be a healthy franchise even after the year off.

stuck in class and can't watch. all i can do is get online updates and wonder how bad the blues are.

i'm out of practice visualizing the game from a radio play-by-play. while listening to the game on the radio, i couldn't readily picture a pass to the left point or breakaways. the fact that half the team is new didn't help, either.

You're lucky you didn't see it...the Blues look bad. I'm not just saying that because they aren't my team...they looked awful. The Wings aren't an exceptionally quick team but they skate circles around them. Lalime let in two soft goals before getting chased in the second. Drake is the only guy out there I'd take on my team right now...he was a major pest. Great opening game if you're a WingsFan...if you're BluesFan, better hope that was just a bad night. Interesting to see how this team reacts back on their home ice in the back half of the home-and-home.

Update,
I see in the Freep that there were SRO's on ebay for 50some bucks. I guess hockey is alive and well in Motown.

Shoalzie,
Who the hell were these guys? I mean we all know , Stevie, Shanny, Homer, Drapes, Zetterburg, Datsyk, and the like, but there were some serious no-names that played very well. Cleary? What a hustler, reminded me of Maltby a few years ago.

lots of penalties, obstruction and interference as far as I've seen. But scoring seems up, so that's nice.

I still see a ton of obstruction and interference as well. It seems that the moving the nets back and the blue line further out did a lot more for the game.

He was probably most pleasant surprise out of camp. I think he made the team because of Kronwall being hurt but he's looked alright so far. I love his shot from the blueline on the power play.

It was a full house opening night and I bet it'll be another one on Sunday even with the Lions playing the same day. The return of D-Mc and the revenge factor from the spring of '04. Looking forward to that matchup tomorrow for sure. Yzerman's status is up in the air but it would be cool if he got to play against Calgary considering what happened to him last time he played them.

I sat next to a few people at the game that must not have read the paper much before they went to the game. They kept saying...Who's Samuelsson? Is this Franzen guy any good? Lebda? Never heard of him. Cleary was a free agent invitee who played his way on. He was a high pick for Chicago that never panned out and then never really played much in Phoenix. He showed a lot of spunk in the preseason and made the team. Samuelsson played only a game or two in the preseason but he looks like a solid player. Franzen looks like a seasoned vet...I love that checking of him with Maltby and Draper. Considering they were able to lock up Datsyuk and Zetterberg and Shanahan has shown some jump early on...this is a nice looking club that Holland put together under the cap. I don't think they're a powerhouse but they're decline according some of the pundits is a little far-fetched in my opinion. I think they're still the best team in the Central even with the emergence of Nashville and they're among the top 5 or 6 teams overall.

Sorry Screw--Wings re-sign Jason Woolley and send Lebda down to Grand Rapids...
