The next Dodger manager

Post by The Assassin »

Should be Lou Pinella. He is exactly who the Dodgers need. Tracys laid back style wore thin, and it showed. The chances of the Dodgers getting him are slim, but the effort to court Pinella should be made.

Watch we'll end up with Lloyd McClendon.

tracey was handcuffed by incompetant owner and GM. Noone was going to get more out of that team than what tracey did.

I find intriguing the story going 'round the rumor mill that Torre will leave or be dumped
if the Yanks don't win the Series this year.
Steinbrenner will have to go after Piniella, 'cause he can't dig up Billy Martin.

As for the Dodgers... I think they should look to a longtime coach and rebuild a sense of continuity
which has been sorely lacking since Lasorda left.
[Thinking to himself]
Ted Striker: I've got to concentrate...
[his thoughts echo]
concentrate... concentrate... I've got to concentrate... concentrate... concentrate... Hello?... hello... hello... Echo... echo... echo... Pinch hitting for Pedro Borbon... Manny Mota... Mota... Mota...

McClendon is reportedly going to join Leyland's staff in Detroit after his contract officially expires with Pittsburgh.

I heard that Trammell actually interviewed for the Dodgers job. You gotta believe that if they pick him Gibby would probably like to rejoin the Dodgers family.

Funniest quoate I ever heard from Weaver.

Ron Lucchiano:Earl get back in the dugout or I'll bite off your head.

To get slightly back on topic:
They don't make 'em like Earl anymore.
BTW, I found a few more Weaver quotes:

"I gave Mike Cuellar more chances than my first wife".

"Economics played a role. Raleighs have gone from six fifty to nine dollars a carton, but there's a three-quarter cent coupon on the back. You can get all kinds of things with them, blenders, everything. I saved up enough one time and got Al Bumbry."

"The job of arguing with the umpire belongs to the manager, because it won't hurt the team if he gets thrown out of the game."

"A manager's job is simple. For one hundred sixty-two games you try not to screw up all that smart stuff your organization did last December."

"On my tombstone just write, 'The sorest loser that ever lived.'"

In the LA times they had a list of possible candidates one of which included Toery Lovello, who is presently managing at AA somewhere. The other names they mentioned had a combined record of something horrific like 800-1200. A bunch of scrubs and re-treads that no one's ever heard of. McCourt and his stupid wife will find a way to screw this up and hire the wrong guy.

Pinella's schtick is old. Players these days dont want to be talked down to and ridiculed in front of thousands of people. Lou was good in his day but I dont see why a team would hire a manager who is probably only going to want to coach for 2-3 seasons and as soon as things dont go his way, he whines like a faggot.

I like the idea of hiring Hershiser. It makes sense 'cause of his past success
in Dodger blue. Which is probably why he won't get the job.

People think hes an ass but I like Bobby V. Hes got that arrogance that all good managers have. Granted he usually ends up pissing off the entire team, but every great manager usually does.

Why would Theo want to work for the Dodgers. idiotic owner, with no clue. You talk about stress.....he's have enough working for the McCourts in a month than staying in Boston for a lifetime. It's a no win situation for him.

Dodgers hire Colletti for general manager postAssociated Press

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers hired Ned Colletti as their general manager on Tuesday to replace the fired Paul DePodesta.

Colletti has been an assistant GM with the rival San Francisco Giants since 1997. He beat out Dodgers assistant GM Kim Ng, who was trying to become the first woman in major league history to be hired as a GM.

Ng and Colletti were thought to be the only candidates to interview for the job. Former Texas Rangers and Cleveland Indians GM John Hart withdrew as a candidate on Monday.

Dodgers spokeswoman Camille Johnston confirmed the hiring of Colletti, who has served under Giants general manager Brian Sabean for the past nine years.

The 50-year-old Colletti is considered a good negotiator and a good communicator, attributes owner Frank McCourt said he wanted in a GM after he fired DePodesta on Oct. 29.

DePodesta was let go after less than two years on the job. He succeeded Dan Evans and signed a five-year contract in February 2004 -- shortly after McCourt purchased the team from News Corp.

The Dodgers are also without a manager. McCourt said at the time of DePodesta's firing that the search to replace Jim Tracy would be on hold until a GM is hired.

The team had a 71-91 record last season -- its worst since 1992 and second-poorest since the franchise moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles in 1958. The Dodgers won the NL West championship in 2004 with a 93-69 record.

That franchise, much like this hiring, is a fucking joke.

First McCunt stops the construction for fans safety on Dodger stadium due to him being a poor bitch, then he slams a ton of fucking lame ass advertising over the outfield walls that previously donned every dodger great, Keeps a fucking moneyball pussy GM until the team is stripped down and in absolute shambles, and now this.

How anyone could root for this shit team after just the first point I brought up is beyond me. What a shitbag organization.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have added former Boston manager Grady Little to the list of candidates for the team's vacant managing position, baseball sources told ESPN.com.

The Dodgers have yet to ask for formal permission to interview Little, who is currently working as a roving catching instructor in the Chicago Cubs' system, the sources said.

Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti declined to comment, and Cubs GM Jim Hendry didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.

Little joins Atlanta Braves special assignment scout Jim Fregosi and former Tampa Bay bench coach John McLaren as a candidate for the Dodgers job, which became vacant when Jim Tracy left the team by mutual agreement in October.

Bud Black, pitching coach for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, decided last week not to pursue the position.

Little, 55, managed Boston to a 188-136 record in two seasons. He was fired and replaced by Terry Francona after the Red Sox lost to New York in seven games in the 2003 American League Championship Series

Not a bad hire. Didn't think he was ready when the Sox hired him. I still say they would have won with him if they didn't axe him. What has Tito done differently than Grady? The southern drawl is what got him out of here.
