Better show up early. I went to see them here in Phx (America West Arena) and the show started an hour early. WTF is that? I've been to plenty shows that started late, but never early. I was pretty pissed. I was originially bummed that DFA 1979 wasn't on the bill, but considering I'd have missed them, I guess it was for the best. QOTSA only played for like 40 minutes and most of it was from the mediocre new album. Then, to make matters worse, they stop selling beer at like 9:30, maybe 3 or 4 songs into NIN's set. I'd had two whole beers at that point. I was fucking pissed. NIN put on a good show, but I was just so frustrated by the whole experience that it was hard to enjoy it. I will never go see a concert at AWA again. I don't care if Ween plays a free 4 hour show there with Clutch opening up. Fuck that dump.

Ok just got back. I had awesome seats. Fourth row from the floor to the right of the stage. Just close enough but not too close. This was good, because in the middle of the NIN set they did this whole thing with videos and graphics over a white sheer fabric that surrounded the entire stage. If we were any closer, our view would've sucked! That was especially cool because you could see Trent behind the sheer singing as the graphics were showing all around him. Graphics like animals eating other animals, dead people, spiders, ants, images of war, images of really happy middle class white people, etc. It was a very political anti-war, anti-Bush message. A picture of Bush showed up on the screen and the crowd booed. I was kinda annoyed, because I hate how everything gets political nowadays, but otherwise the images coupled with the music were very gripping. I looked around and people were just standing there staring. It felt like were were all being brainwashed!

Show started at precisely 7:30. Death From Above 1979 came onto the stage and started playing immediately. Hard loud rock from the get-go. I had no idea there were only two guys in the band! They sounded awesome! The people around me had never heard of them and were highly impressed. They rocked for about an hour.

Queens of the Stone Age came on immediately after. I didn't keep track of the length of time between the bands. I went to the bathroom and sat back down for about five minutes and there they were! It was a nice surprise. They sound MUCH BETTER live than recorded, IMO. They opened with "Go With The Flow" or whatever that song is called. It's actually my favorite song of theirs, so I was stoked. They also played "Little Sister" which was awesome, and "No One Knows" was FANTASTIC. They added all these interesting twists and guitar solos in the middle of the song and then Josh Homme started singing without any music and his voice filled the arena. It was actually very beautiful. I got goose bumps. (By the way, that man would be WAY sexy if his face weren't so ugly. The way he gyrated and moved and towered over the microphone turned me on. And his hands move very fast while playing the guitar... ;) )

NIN came on at exactly 10 and played until 11:30. What can I say? They thoroughly impressed me. I didn't know every song, as I have not listened to their most recent albums to the fullest, but I didn't stop moving all night. The crowd response to the music was amazing. All the hands in the air, all the voices singing, all the jumping and all the lighters aflame during the slower songs (mainly "Hurt" which took my breath away!) was an awesome experience!

Mike, the beers were $6 at this venue. I can't afford too many at that price. Plus I hate getting up and down during shows. I like to see everything, and I hate dealing with crowds or standing in line. Although it wasn't so bad tonight. This venue is pretty new in Jax (they tore down the old one and rebuilt it a few years ago) so it's nice and big and new and fresh. There were hardly any crowds. Even the general admission floor space was not too cramped. I was watching people dance with lotsa room around them. The mosh pit was nice and organized. The crowd surfing was kept to a minimum. The crowd sang along to every song. The music was loud — in a good way. The people around us were VERY friendly and we had a nice time chit-chatting during intermissions (I tend to talk to anyone without hesitation). Oh, and two young kids directly in the row in front of us were smoking pot. My sister and I were getting contact highs before the security personnel came and took them away. It was a very pleasant evening!

This is a stretch, but I think this show was in my top three of all time. It MAY even beat Radiohead, which is my favorite band of all time (I know you all know). I was very impressed with NIN. The sound was excellent, they played songs from Pretty Hate Machine, and Trent Reznor wore leather. *sigh*

Oh, and I think I was the only person there NOT wearing black!

Going to bed now. THE END!

I'll be seeing them all in a few weeks. I pretty much bought the tickets just for DFA1979, and I already endured one lousy QOTSA show this year, so I'll probably bail early.
