Birds at the Donks

Post by BBMarley »

Should be another big game. I had this penciled in as a loss at the beginning of the year- coming into Invesco after a big game against San Diego- plus playing there is hard on most teams... but if the Defense can play at the same level as they did last week- make Plummer throw the ball- they can win. Plummer will be good fro at leats 2 INT's- and look for Mcnabb to throw for 250+ and 2 TD's. Akers will be back kicking Field Goals and Cortez will plant the Donks deep....

Birds- 27
Donks- 16

After what the Giants did to the Broncos, and with this game at home, the Broncos are going to kick the living shit out of the Eagles.

Denver- 34

Philly- 7

I see this as a loss. Plummer has always had decent games against the Eagles, even when he was with the Cardinals. Denver is a great home team but I don't think it'll be a blow out nor do I think it'll be high scoring.. probably a lot of field goals.

The Eagles offense is shit right now but their defense should do a decent enough job against the Broncos but not enough to win.

27-17.

By running the ball..........

The real question is: how is the Eagle Defense going to stop Anderson/Bell?

They'll put those points up because your running game is absolutely fucking pathetic. Therefore, the Eagles won't be able to move the ball and will give Denver great field position all game. That will translate into increased scoring opportunities and a big assed blowout.

Last time I checked- our running game has nothing to do with our D. Besides- Denver is ranked 6th againt the run, but 29 against the pass- so a team that passes 60-70% of the time will logically have more success against them anyway, won't they?
We brought in Cortez to help with the long kickoff's, our special teams stepped up their game finally both of which will help with the field position. Even if Philly goes 3 and out every set of down's.. Johnson will plant the ball deep and our D will take care of it.

I don't feel as confident about this game as I have in the past- but if you honestly think they can put up 34 points against this D- you are truely a moron.

The Philly defense is ranked 10th against the run. Anderson/Bell have gone off for big yardage against better ranked run defenses than the Eagles.

Remember, the sun shines on every dogs ass every once in a while....I figure that's how the Eagles shut down LT.

Great analysis. Talk stats in one breath and chalk up stopping the best RB in the game to 'getting lucky' in the next.

Philly's run D is better than the stats show... They lost Trotter in week 1 and gave up 200 yards rushing, they were short Darwin Walker against Dallas which killed them... but with the whole healthy defense they had the LT game, held Lamont Jordan to 19 yards on 16 attempts and other than first two poseesion of the KC game (in which Priest ran for 61 yards on 10 carries- which is unacceptable) they held him to 23 yards on 9 carries and LJ to 34 yards on 7 carries (one of which was a 21 yard scamper).

A healthy Philly D will be able to handle the Denver offense okay- Plummer is going to be your X factor. He killed us a couple times in Zona-but I think they drop a spy in to keep him in the pocket (like they did with Kearse and the Atlanta game last year) and make him beat us with his arm. If that's case- I'll take our secondary any day of the week and twice on Sunday

Hey Jim, you tell me. How does the 20th overall rated defense stop the best back in the league? Something a little more concrete than "they played with heart" would be appreciated.

Edit for BB. Nice analysis. But you forgot another big X factor....they're playing in Denver....never an easy prospect.

I smell a sig bet coming.......

How about this-

Philly had one of their starting D Tackles return in Darwin Walker. He along with Holis Thomas essentially shut down the middle of the line. Mvs said the Chargers were without their starting center but that does not explain why LT wasn't able to get outside on the Eagles. The Eagles brought their safeties up to the outsides and Trotter played the cut back lanes perfectly which meant LT had absolutely no where to run.

It took Marty till the 3rd quarter to realize that Gates had the middle of the field open and he finally exploited that with Gates getting open against Trotter and Adams.

I predict the Doinks will win, not because they'll have a huge game running the ball, but because field position will be key and with a short field the broncos will put up some points against the Eagles. The Eagles special teams has been awful, up until last week but I still don't trust Cortez any more than I did France.

I also see the Eagles secondary showing some holes.. especially Lito Shepherd and Michael Lewis.. Lewis is turning out to be a great run safety but a horrible cover safety. Lito is taking too many chances and getting burned. I would not be suprised to see him get burned this week on a 30-40 yard pass by Plummer.

Cortez will be used for kickoff's- he can get the ball deep. Word is Akers is coming back this week for field goals- so they'll keep two kickers on the roster- Cortez for kickoff's and Akers for Field Goals (until Akers is 100%). By getting the ball deeper than France- it will help with alot with field position.

I don't see Reid keeping 2 kickers on the roster? Who does he cut? I don't think he'll bring back Akers this week if he can ride Cortez for 1-2 more weeks and no matter how deep Cortez kicks, ball placement is key with the Eagles and I'm not sure his timing will be down. It certainly wasnt with France.

True- but whether they were up or not- the secondary gave up the yardage. There's less excuse for giving it up late b/c you KNOW the team will be passing.
If Philly goes 3 and out every set of downs they will get pasted by 50+ points.
I said even if.. I don't expect them too.. I think McNabb is actually going to have a decent game. (Not great- but decent)

And they never play a soft zone in Philly?

Decent won't get it done. The Eagles need to at least show they can run the ball. They held Tomlinson to 7 freaking yards and almost lost the game. You do the math.

I gave you my justification. Philly is on pace to rush for a total of 920 yards AS A TEAM. Denver ought to be able to shut down that "rushing attack" with 6 and 7 in the box. That means your passing attack, such as it is, will go nowhere.

Never mind they are ripe for a big letdown after last week and Mile High is the perfect place for them to gift wrap a game.

But its not just yards- they give up TD's as well- soft zone is meant to prevent the big plays and keep points form being put up- their 29th ranked passing D isn't doing that.
Decent won't get it done. The Eagles need to at least show they can run the ball. They held Tomlinson to 7 freaking yards and almost lost the game. You do the math.
Penalites and stupid play almost lost them that game... Turning the ball over in the red zone, poor clock management accounted for 10 points being left on the field.
Besides- they have never run the ball. They have won 13, 12, 12, & 11 games the past 4 years without a running game. Granted- Donovan is hurt and unable to sramble the way he used too- but he still has thrown for 250+ yards every game this year (except Dallas). Why is it the heavy pass formula has worked well in the past- but they simply CANNOT win a game with it anymore?

Again- they have won with the formaula the past 4 years.. I agree they need to run the ball more- but saying they can't win with this offense is idiotic- they have done it the past 4 years, and 4 of 6 this year.

Denver is giving up fewer points than the Eagles. And if you throw out the opener against Miami as a total abberation, that number goes down to 15 points a game.

Because before they used to present a threat of rushing the ball. Last year the Eagles had a 4.36 ypa. This year they are an aniemic 3.38 ypa. When you rush the ball for 4+ yards an attempt, people respect your rushing attack. When you're clocking in at literaly 3 yards and a cloud of dust, teams are not going to pack the box.
Again- they have won with the formaula the past 4 years.. I agree they need to run the ball more- but saying they can't win with this offense is idiotic- they have done it the past 4 years, and 4 of 6 this year.
It's not the offense. It's the injuries and lack of personel. And, they are beat up and traveling into a hostile environment. If this was in Philly, I'd give them a puncher's chance. But this is in Denver and they are going to get worked.

The same way KC put up 31 points, albeit in a losing cause, against that same D you seem to think is so impregnable.

Dungver is even more of a tougher venue to play than Arrowhead due to the altitude. Philly D will be sucking wind in the 4th qtr.

The D started out bad and tightened up significantly... after losing Dallas- Dawkins & Trot both had a long talk with the D. They will be coming in tight and aggressive every game- no more of that wide open shit they allowed with KC. Plus- KC's O is a lot more potent than Denver
