Nah, you guys simply read it wrong.
Genie initially asserted that he didn't think USC was a Top 2 team. Meds responded, "still bitter. for shame." Hence, Genie came back with two reasons he thought supported his comment that USC was not a top 2 team: ND because USC barely beat them and ASU being the only other quality game on their schedule.
I know you're invested in this now because you lambasted Genie quite effectively...but a fair reading, hell, a simple reading of Genie's post indicates Genie was calling USC overrated, which would fit with the comment made earlier that started that string, that USC was not a top 2 team.

In '02 the Trojans COULD beat any of the championship contenders, they were the best team at the end of the season. But I don't think any SC fans were complaining that they deserved any shot at the title or recognition as champs. They knew they lost two games and that was the end of that.Spinach Genie wrote: Two. After the '02 season, several Trojan fans and Cali pubs were bitching USC could beat any of the championship contenders and '03 was one of the biggest cryfests the BCS system has yet seen.

No...please explain how I am misreading his post.Killian wrote:You're joking, right?
You simply misreading it in the first place and then not acknowledging your own mistake is not an explanation of why my reading is wrong.
It's fairly clear what his point was...USC is overrated for the two reasons he cited.

Try to follow me here. Spinach is pointing to two games on USC's schedule that ESPN and their like are using as justification for USC to be #1. He first states Notre Dame, and then calls them overrated. You can tell it's Notre Dame he's referring to by what follows directly after the word overrated. "And you still needed last minute heroics to pull that one out." If that doesn't convince you that he's talking about Notre Dame, than view what he says about ASU. "A late pull away agaainst an average ASU squad....". So he singles out two teams, and describes one as overrated and the other as average. More proof is what if I continue that quote: "...would be the only other real quality win USC has as far as I can tell....exept maybe the mighty ducks." Implying that USC has one quality win over an average team and a win against a team that is overrated. The Notre Dame win doesn't really qualify as quality because they are overrated.Spinach Genie wrote: Two games. Notre Dame. Overrated, and you still needed last minute heroics to pull that one out. I'll spell a couple of things out for you Jimmah. Number one, the SEC is currently sucking worse than I can ever recall in my lifetime. ASU had a first play LSU squad at home after a hurricane had practically wiped their house clean with a brand spanking new coach and still couldn't get it done. They also got beat by mighty Stanford.Jimmy Medalions wrote:You want to talk about Arizona State? The team LSU was lucky to beat thanks to special teams mistakes?
You sure did. You also barely hung in there with a Notre Dame team that got its ass handed to it by a Michigan State team that got the fuck kicked out of them by northwestern...since we're comparing scores and all.Let's talk about the mighty SEC for a moment. What did we do to Arkansas? Yep, we hung 70 on them. And what did Georgia do to them? They won by a field goal. At home, no less.
Try playing in a real conference sometime. And sorry BitterGenie, but it wasn't two years of whining. You can make shit up to support your argument but I'm not buying it. If that's what you SEC Okies want to believe then that's your problem, not ours. Try scheduling a non-DII, non-directional for a change.
Whoa, easy there spike. Don't pull out the heavy guns.Even better, try leaving the south sometime. Wait a minute...you did that and lost. That's right.
Why not? We had to last year, or at least...those making the rankings did. When the condoms are in question, however, the media merely delivers another reach-around.And thanks for saying ND was overrated. I'm sure if Auburn is lucky enough to be even close against Alabama, you'll conveniently-forget the above remark and say "well, in rivalry games you can throw records out the window".
I'd say the same for you, Jimmah. I didn't start this thread. This isn't about Auburn...it's about those other handful of unbeatens who are already being ruled out of a shot at the "championship" because ABC and their ESPN stooges want to sell a matchup...yes, much like what happened to Auburn last season. This just about sums it all up.
You're usually a better poster than this. I didn't think myopia was an issue for you.

I can already spell that, thanks.Spinach Genie wrote:I'll spell a couple of things out for you Jimmah. Number one, the SEC is currently sucking worse than I can ever recall in my lifetime.
Due to two huge fuckups on special teams. Two plays decided that game. Which of course begs the questions: (i) why did LSU squeak out a win and (ii) how did USC rally from 18 points down at half, with a QB that played through a concussion, to win by 10?ASU had a first play LSU squad at home after a hurricane had practically wiped their house clean with a brand spanking new coach and still couldn't get it done.
Math just called. They said your ass has been kicked.
I'll let you have this one, even though it's typical for ETCU (empty trophy case univerity) to melt mid-season like they are. I guess we should call them ETCU, West Campus since you guys are the Eastern Campus. They also got beat by mighty Stanford.
Let's review this in order. You also barely hung in there with a Notre Dame team that got its ass handed to it by a Michigan State team that got the fuck kicked out of them by northwestern...since we're comparing scores and all.
1. With clutch play at the end, we won a very close game. Call it what you want, most would say it was a great football game.
2. ND got it's ass handed to them by MSU? Does Losing by less than a touchdown qualify as getting your ass handed to you? By that logic, I guess Auburn got their ass handed to them by LSU.
3. MSU got the fuck kicked out of them by Northwestern. Let me get this straight. You want to use the credibility of MSU as a barometer for who's good and bad in college football? Pardon me for a moment I'm back. Sorry. Your grasp of logic is poor.
And there you have it. The argument-ending response every SECfan falls back on. Come up with something new. TIA.Try playing in a real conference sometime.
So let me get this straight. Above, it was OK to talk about who beat who, yet when I point to a specific game where Auburn actually had the balls to schedule someone other than Directional Polytechnic of the North, and lost, it's irrelevant.Whoa, easy there spike. Don't pull out the heavy guns.
Got it.
I'll be honest, this response made no sense to me whatsoever. But if you need a tissue, let me know. Don't ever say I wasn't compassionate for others. Why not? We had to last year, or at least...those making the rankings did. When the condoms are in question, however, the media merely delivers another reach-around.
I started this thread about Tubberville. The person. The guy who whined last year and who whined again this year. That's all.I didn't start this thread. However true his statements were, they showed poor judgement and were inadvisable.
If you're naive enough to believe that the media doesn't have Plan B already pre-cooked should Texas or USC lose a game, so help you.

Not sure who said, but whoever said that we already have predetermined the Rose with Texas/USC and its still October was dead on. Bullshit. They just happened to start the season teh highest. DOn't give me any BCS bullshit because they get lowered averages by default for starting so high. Another disgrace.

You've been hanging out on this lame board too much, meds. It's rubbed off on you. LSU won. End of story. If Auburn had a kicker with anything other than a 20 yard leg, we would have beaten the dogshit out of LSU. Both irrelevant. Also, we're not talking about a human team here. We're talking about the undisputed, can't be placed any lower than 1, 1 or 1 Trojans here. They shouldn't have to play catch-up with ASU. Right? Unless someone needs to sell a matchup, that is.Jimmy Medalions wrote: Due to two huge fuckups on special teams. Two plays decided that game. Well, Auburn has plenty of SEC championships and should have plenty of "national championships" to go with that, except the media likes to sell matchups. That much didn't change with ESPN.I'll let you have this one, even though it's typical for ETCU (empty trophy case univerity) to melt mid-season like they are. It was meant to be. It's called mocking you.Let's review this in order.

Why? It's true. Half your teams typically wind up under .500 when the season ends. With the exception of SC, they're soft , non-physical teams. You don't have a conference championship. One year in a real conference and you'll find out what the words "injuries" and "wear and tear" mean. Things change when you have to get up for more than two or three games a regular season. And there you have it. The argument-ending response every SECfan falls back on. Come up with something new. TIA.
Actually, I was referring to your tired civil war smack. So let me get this straight. Above, it was OK to talk about who beat who, yet when I point to a specific game where Auburn actually had the balls to schedule someone other than Directional Polytechnic of the North, and lost, it's irrelevant.

Basically, I was saying SC should be paying for such a good media suckoff. Notre Dame too. Fuckers didn't even drop in the AP from the top 10 after that "game of the century".I'll be honest, this response made no sense to me whatsoever. But if you need a tissue, let me know. Don't ever say I wasn't compassionate for others.
Tuberville is merely stating the obvious most of the remainder of the coaching world is too pussy to observe. He's doing much what SC land spent the better part of the '04 offseason doing. Calling foul to a shitty system.I started this thread about Tubberville. The person. The guy who whined last year and who whined again this year. That's all.
How so? He's all over the press. Auburn is all over the press. After two losses put them into a media blackhole anyway, now people are talking about them. It's exposure, and if you aren't an ESPN/ABC lackey, condom or longhorn fan...it's mostly sympathetic as well. However true his statements were, they showed poor judgement and were inadvisable.
The media shouldn't be involved enough to be creating "plan B". The season isn't nearly over. Why are we already casting the bowl games? That is Tub's point, and if you argue that...you're the one who is naive. If you're naive enough to believe that the media doesn't have Plan B already pre-cooked should Texas or USC lose a game, so help you.
Personally, I think the media wants to suck Orenthal Simpson's USC dick.

I may have to go with the ACC as the best after going over the teams. Not sure until bowl time when inter-conference matchups occur.

someone explain to the SEC Bumpkins that you need to play in a 12 school conference in order to have a Conference Title Game. Also if Pac 10 school played 3 road OOC games vs d2 and Sun Belt directionals then played the likes of Arkie, Ole Miss, Vandy, Miss St in conf then more than 50% of them would wind up over .500..... just look at feCal this year.

Oh right. Those 3 OOC games make up for all the Washingtons, Arizonas, Stanfords and the like in the PAC. You do realize the in conference schedule comprises the bulk of regular season gameplay, right? I mean, I know you guys like to brag that you hit the road to play BYU and Hawaii, but really...when you have to play teams like LSU, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn and the like every single season...all of who generally top the nation in defense, many of who can point to recent "national titles", all who annually inhabit the top 25 of any poll of your choice rather than the gaggle of "whothefucks" that make up most of the PAC, is the OOC argument even an argument?SoCalTrjn wrote:someone explain to the SEC Bumpkins that you need to play in a 12 school conference in order to have a Conference Title Game. Your conference is the reason you don't have the 12 team requirement. Who needs it when USC can get fat off PAC losers, get up for a couple of big games a season, and then live big on media fellation? USC is a very strong team, but I absolutely believe if they played an SEC schedule, they wouldn't even be gracing the top 10. They have all the all world athletes in the world and great coaching, but ask Steve Spurrier what an SEC schedule does to your roster in a stretch run.

How the fuck do you know? First of all, the media wanted an SC/OU matchup last year and barring a loss by either, that was the chosen matchup well before midseason ever arrived. Auburn went undefeated on an SEC schedule while the Okies slopped it up against some of the worst defenses in the league and still got shafted. Why? Not because USC beat Auburn in '03 you dipshit, because USC and OU had two heismans playing and the entire drama of the '03 postseason to match. The media wanted that matchup and that's what happened, which is what Tubs is railing against. If you are going to front that you have some sort of legitimate system to determine #1 v #2, then why the fuck are the media selling matchups and poll numbers before the first BCS rankings hit the streets? For instance, it's pretty clear to me after yesterday than Va Tech is clearly the number 2 team in the country. It's pretty clear to me that Texas is going to get assraped in the Rose Bowl, much as it was with OU last season. It's pretty clear to me Va Tech would not only compete with USC, but it would likely be a hard fought game. To hear the media spin it, however, what we saw yesterday was not an embarassing slip by a notably one-dimesional longhorn squad, but rather a show of grit and determination and blah, blah, blah. Anything to sell the match that has already been made, BCS or no BCS.
other than Arizona and Cal, all the Pac 10 teams have been to BCS bowls. You want to compare U Dub and Zona to the Missistakey States, Ole Piss, Vandy and Kuntucky's of the SEC?
