Manny rumor
Three way deal where Manny would end up in Anaheim, Glaus and Erstad end up in Boston. Arizona is the third team involved.....

I doubt anybody wants the baggage that comes along with manny, unless the sox pick up a nice chunk of his contract. In that case, they might as well hang onto him tolerate his antics and continue to enjoy the best 3,4 hitting combo since Ruth, Gehrig.

Very nice, but....Neely8 wrote:Three way deal where Manny would end up in Anaheim, Glaus and Erstad end up in Boston. Arizona is the third team involved.....
Can they pitch?
Re: Manny rumor
Interesting scenario. What would this mean for Damon? Is he going to test the market or is it a certainty he will return to Boston? If you unload Manny's contract, they free up a little cash to pay Damon.Neely8 wrote:Three way deal where Manny would end up in Anaheim, Glaus and Erstad end up in Boston. Ramirez '05: $19,806,820
Glaus '05: $9,000,000
Erstad: '05: $8,250,000
Damon '05: $8,250,000
You take the couple million you save on moving Manny and you pay Damon around $9 or 10 million. I don't know what his market value is but that's pretty good money for a leadoff man and he'd still be one of the highest paid Red Sox.
The Sox have the money so they have more options than others would.

Damon might have gotten 10 mil 5 years ago when they were paying stupid money, but, I doubt he would today. Not saying he isn't worth it. Well, yes I am, no one is worth that much.
Damon is the second most valuable offensively after Papi. They should resign him if possible.
They should also face the fact that they are probably stuck with manny. Either pay him or release him. If they were cash strapped, I'd say let him go. But, they aren't. Maybe they should just trade him, knowing that it means that they will have to still pick up half his salary.

Nigga please...   Manny is the most valuable player offensively on that team. Ortiz didn't "break out" until he came to Boston and had one of the most feared hitters in the game protecting him.smackaholic wrote:Damon is the second most valuable offensively after Papi. Life w/out Manny = 30 HR 100 RBI for Ortiz.
