Thank you for your contribution Corky, now get your facts straight: the stadium was not built for the Olympics, it was built in 1922-1923, 10 years before the 1932 Olympics.SoCalTrjn wrote:why would they sell people seats that can not see the field?
The Coliseum wasnt built for football, it ws built for the Olympics, after the Traiders moved to LA they complained about how far the seats were fromthe field so the stadium floor was lowered, the track was removed, more seats were built and the field was moved down to the closed end of the stadium... some 70 yards from the arches and flame. The sundeck was brought in to provide seats at the open end of the stadium and the seats that are covered are covered because they do not have a full view of the field.
As for the covers that bring stadium capacity down to 68,000 seats, that was done for the Traiders only who felt it unfair that their games were blacked out on TV cause they had to sell out a 92,000 seat stadium so they went with an NFL wide average of 68,000 and covered up the rest so their games could be on TV in Southern California.
Thought we had covered that before but some must have missed the short bus that day.
Its for $C and their football team which played its first game on Oct 6, 1923. Since then it has also housed:
UCLA Bruins (NCAA) (-1982)
Summer Olympics (1932&1984)
Los Angeles Rams (NFL) (1946-1979)
Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB) (1958-1961)
Los Angeles Chargers (NFL) (1960)
Los Angeles Raiders (NFL) (1982-1994)
Los Angeles Express (USFL) (1983-1985)
Los Angeles Xtreme (XFL) (2001)
So maybe you guys should go with this argument: we have fucked this field up so many times trying to fit so many different events in that some of our stands are too far away. So, we cover them up to make it look more classy and borrowed some bleachers from the local high school so more fans could come and watch the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
