This has to mean Konerko isn't coming back. If Thome can return to form, it's a great deal for the Sox because they need a lefty bat but Rowand was a key member on that team. If Thome's health doesn't improve, the Phillies win big because Howard will be a more than adequate replacement at first and Rowand is a great glove in center and a solid bat. Could be one of the best outfields in baseball with Abreu, Burrell and Rowand.

I wouldnt make the trade. Rowand had a badass year, .310 and 24HRs. He is an emotional leader on this team.

Not necessarily, Thome could become the DH, but it does give them veteran insurance
in case Konerko leaves. It makes their lineup more powerful that way,
and Chicago could still go after a free agent for their outfield.
Phils solidify their outfield, and unburden themselves of Thome's huge contract.
Could be a deal that works out for both clubs.

I really liked Thome during his time here but his bat has slowed down. He might be rejuvenated playing the DH. But this also opens the door for Ryan Howard who had a monster 3/4 of a year for a rookie.

Gillick hit a HR for his first deal.. 2 good propects and a starting CF who had a good year.

Not. A. Chance.

Sincerely,

Mr. Moreno, Owner of the Angels and Looking for any way to steal any remaining Dodger fans left-whether it be by changing the team name or bringing in ex-dodgers and winning a world series with them.

Hell, If fucking Piazza or LoDuca became available, Moreno would jump on them in a heartbeat and let Molina walk. (He might do that anyway)

Dudes main goal is quite obvious-dont be surprised to see Konerko in Angel red.

Konerko re-signs with the champs...

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2242424

With him back in the fold, they got a scary lineup now with the addition of Thome and the emergence of Crede along with Dye and Pierzynski, one of the best hitting catchers in the game. Sprinkle in some good situational hitters like Uribe and Iguchi and speed from Podsednik at the top of the order...the champs look good right now as long as they keep their rotation in place.

if i'm correct, AJ signed a one year deal last year. but anyway, i too thought that konerko wasn't coming back no matter what. dude's fetching lifetime peak value in his career on the market and i totally expected him to leave. reason #1 why i was happy to see them take a chance on thome. but to see paul turn down the top dollar and resign was awesome. thome at dh? his back thanks him. thankfully this time he'll be murdering other al central pitching than the sox.

Did happen to catch Konerko's interview on Mac, Jurko & Harry this week? From the sounds of it, he had 4 similar offers on the table and it came down to either the Sox or the Angels. I don't think he took a discount price to stay...sounded like the teams he was talking to offered him around the same amount. It just came down to which team he wanted to play for more. The Angels came a very close second because he mentioned how many members of the organization were with the Dodgers when broke in.
