In any case the NFL is so machiavellian in its machinations that even if such things were true it's never going to prevent another NFL team from attmpting to catch a ride on that gravy train, if for no other reason than the boost in season ticket sales and overall fan interest.

On any given Sunday there's some flat out corpses manning the sidelines in the NFL and the allure of injecting Pete's notoriety, enthusiasm and charisma into some moribund franchise like the Saints or Lions would prove to be too tempting to ignore for many an NFL owner...
Not sure about this. Most on this board prefer college football to the NFL, but I'm here to tell you, we're in the minority in that regard.

Very few college football teams have anything more than a regional fan following. Fans of the Saints and Lions are just as likely to view Pete as the failed ex-coach of the Jets and Pats as they are to view him as the guy who turned USC's program around.

Not to mention that most former college coaches have failed to make the jump successfully to the NFL. Jimmy Johnson is pretty much the last one to pull that off, and he did it with GM powers, and on the back of a trade (Herschel Walker) that would be impossible to pull off today with all of the salary cap implications. As you're well aware, his second tenure, with the Dolphins, was markedly less successful.

Oklahoma has the vast majority of it's team returning. We have been playing with a third and fourth string Defensive end since the Tulsa game. We will be scary deep on the defensive line, scary. Other than that we have just three kids on the D depth chart who are even Juniors much less Seniors. Our Offense has all the current starters except Runnels, Joseph, and a couple of Oline 2nd stringers coming back.

You're right there is no hope that the 34 Freshman and sophmores on our two deep will have improved any by next year.

:meds:
Only 2 of 5 Olinemen are leaving they would be Will Allen and Jon Scott, Scott will be replaced by Tony Hill who is already considered a Co-starter at left Tackle with Scott and has graded out higher than Scott overall this season. Allen will be tough to replace but Texas has a couple of guards who have a lot playing time this year. Of the other three linemen Sendline will be a junior, Studdard will be a redshirt senior and Blalock will be a senior.

The one senior on offense that will be toughest to replace is TE David Thomas who IMO is the best TE to ever play at Texas.

On defense Wright and dibbles will be replaced with Okam who is already a starter and Roy Miller who has kicked ass this year.

Aaron Harris will be tough to replace Not sure who is going to step up.

Huff and Ced Griff will be easily replaced. Texas is really really deep in corners and safeties. Our Dbs next year will likely be Terrell Brown, Aaron Ross, Michael Griffith and either Matt Melton or Marcus Griffith or Brandon Foster. Any of the 3 will replace Huff without missing a beat. Texas is so incredibly deep in the secondary its scary.

As long as Vince comes back Texas will be much stronger than they are this year.

I'm sure the young OU guys will improve but so will next years senior layden Longhorns team.

Most people think the Cowboys won in-spite of Switzer, not because of him.

College coaches aren't coaches. They're recruiters and salesmen. That's why very few college coaches EVER suceed in the NFL. That's why I don't want Stoops. I want a fucking NFL coach in KC. Nothing more, nothing less. Just a god damn football coach and not some fucking college "coach." There are maybe 3-4 coaches in the college game that would amount to shit in the NFL. For example, fucking Mack Brown is about to coach in the National Championship game. I'd be surprised if that retard could even explain to me what a Cover-2 is. You can't gravy train off your recruits in the NFL- like Mack Brown. It's a piece of cake in college if you have players. Just ask Pete Carroll and Steve Spurrier. There are very few weaknesses your opponents have in the NFL and you have to know how to outcoach an opponent instead of just out-talenting them. This is the big leagues, boys.

Definitely not saying Pete would necessarily do all that well in a return stint to the NFL but there's no doubt somebody out there would give him that shot if he finishes off this season with another title...

Even after a OU down year, we still see Stoops to such and such posts.

The only suprise is that it was started by a OU fan.

Carroll was over .500 at New England, its not like he was a bust by any means. He would have gotten another chance to HC if he stayed in the NFL.

Spurrier probably would have been good in the NFL eventually, he never had a legit qb. But he couldn't succeed in the NFL running the type of offense he did at Florida or that he wants to run at SC. He'd have to relent and run a balanced attack.

Osborne could have been a good NFL coach. He was a smart X's and O's guy, not the big motivator/recruiter type Jon talked about. Dude was very intelligent, actually has a doctorate and taught classes at NU.

I can see Chow making the jump, the personal-style that made him less-than-appealing as a college hire won't matter nearly as much in the NFL. He is just a great football-mind.

Back in the Late 90's Mack was the hottest commodity in college football according to most NFL people. He has not ever had a desire to coach in the NFL.

BTW Jon your still a moron if you think Mack can't coach. He took Texas from a 4-7 team with the 111 ranked defense and made them a bowl team with a 9-3 record. The next year they improved from that. Fact is Texas has pretty much been improving every year under Mack over the last 7 years. Yes he is a great recruiter but over the last 4 years Stoops has out recruited him as well as Bowden. Look where they are and look where Texas is right now.

Coaching in the NFL and Coaching in the NBA are all about chemistry. A great coach in either league will not go very far without the right mix of players. Bill parcells is a great coach in New York but without the right players he is not that great in Dallas. Same can be said of Jimmy Johnson in Dallas who then becomes nothing in Miami. It takes the right combonation of both talent and coaching to win a championship.

Look at Phil Jackson in the NBA he wins tons of championships with the bulls and the Lakers but give him the best team he has ever worked with in the NBA with 4 hall of fame players and he falls flat on his face. Why? Mostly because of the bad chemistry on that team.
