Rex, that's been up a while. I believe it is a bogus post about the "Jimbo Fischer" part, so I don't believe it is credible.
While I am sure Leavitt is on KSU's short list, I don't see him leaving here, especially with the way the program is going to take an upswing in the next year or so.
Our AD Woolard is going to talk with him after the game Saturday about a raise and extension. I have heard that numbers have already been discussed and Leavitt will be rewarded nicely for what he has done.
I doubt he would leave for the $$$$ because if that were the case he would have be gone a couple of years ago.

KSU doesn't have the big $ to throw around, they won't lure Leavitt with coin and IMO he is in too good a position now to leave unless it was to a major power. He is in an improving program in a recruiting hotbed in a BCS conference without a major power(WV and ville have potential but aren't there yet). Why leave for KSU?
It is going to be Patterson or Venables IMO.

I don't know the guy but It is a solid move to come to KSU. Considering the talent in the Big 12 North its not like he would taking on more than he could handle. Just look at the freak show that just won that division. Hell I'm pretty sure that the UCF could have won the North this year.

Trix is on drugs.
USF and Kstate can offer comparable packages monetarily, if one has any more to offer I would bet it be USF.
Leavitt does not like the cold wheather and his wife despises it. Jim enjoyed his time at Kstate but his family certainly did not.
USF also has some of the finest facitlities in the country.
If Leavitt leaves USF for KState he will get my idiot of the year award.

I do know the guy and I know he was offered by Alabama after the 2002 season. He used that for leverage to have his contract renegotiated and have all of his assistants receive raises. He used his interview with Indiana back in 2001 to get our athletic facilty up and running.Vito Corleone wrote:Sincerely North Carolina Fan about Mack Brown.

I know he is close with Snyder and has ties to K-State. K-State would offer more money, but not much after he gets a raise here. He has been the coach here from Day 1, so it will be very difficult to pry him away from his "baby". His family lives in the area and he is very close with them. There are more things to keep Leavitt at USF then to have him leave at this point.

Rex, I believe Leavitt's salary this year is the upper $400,000 range, with it bumping to $500,000 next season. There is already a rumor floating around from a credible source that Leavitt will be offered a half a million a year raise on his current deal and have a couple of years added on to the current contract, so that would put him in range of what K-State was paying Snyder. If that did come to fruition, then I don't see him leaving. If he wanted the money, then he would have left 3 years ago.T REX wrote:Really?

Leavitt is making $500,000 a year already, Mucho, and there are talks of an agreement in principle between the two parties to be signed after the season involving a raise and extension.
It should also be noted that Leavitt was offered a substantial package by USF 2 years ago that he turned down and told the University to spend on quality assistants, which they in turn did so.

I believe this is the final year of Leavitt's contract where it wasn't at $500,000 or higher. I'd have to look into it, but I believe it was the first 3 years (2003 2004 and 2005) where he was under $500,000 and the final 4 years were above it.
I know that our AD Doug Woolard is going to do everything in his power to keep Coach Leavitt here. The potential is rising with our program and Woolard obviously sees this, as does Leavitt.

First off, Leavitt would have relationships with FL high school coaches that would benefit him every year during recruiting. Second, it's my opinion that it's a no brainer to stay at USF. The Big East is weaker than the Big 12 North, and they won't have to fight through basically two confrences to gain a BCS birth. Right now, USF's biggest competition for a BCS spot is Pittsburgh, WVU, and Louisville. As opposed to Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Colorado, ISU, etc. Not only that, but he is currently at a school in FL, one of the most talent rich states in the country. Even if he's getting UF, FSU, and Miami's leftovers, it's better than getting leftovers in Kansas.

Killian hit it right on the head. Leavitt was a great hire by USF 9 years ago and he has built that program into a Top 40 program in just 3 years at the D-1A level. I doubt he would leave b/c USF is getting better, everyone in Tampa loves him and his players adore him. I think for him to leave it would take a bigger program to lure him away.

I am not so sure he would even do that. He is building this program and he wants to be the legacy for USF Football, in the way Snyder was for K-State. People like Hayden Fry instilled that in Leavitt when he was at Graduate Assistant at Iowa. I know that it would be extremely tough for him to leave all he has built over the 9 seasons we have had a program.Cicero wrote:I think for him to leave it would take a bigger program to lure him away.

And as Suncoast said, he'd be the idiot of the year to leave for Kansas St.
Besides, we don't need his kind in the Big 12 North.

I agree, but I think the main reason he would stay at USF is because it's hard to replace a legend. Replace the guy who replaced a legend. He would be in an almost no-win situation at KSU. Everything he does at USF is the first time it has happened.T REX wrote:I am not disagreeing with any of the reasons WHY he would stay, BUT if KSU offers him some dough and Snyder is instrumental in teh search, it will be hard for him.

Looks like Leavitt is staying.
USF’s Leavitt Agrees to Contract Extension Through 2012
Jim Leavitt, the only coach in the 10-year history of USF football, has agreed to a contract extension through 2012, USF Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Doug Woolard announced today. The new terms begin January 1, 2006, replacing Leavitt’s current contract that ran through 2009.
The base salary plus compensation for radio, television and appearances will average $1 million per year over the length of the contract. The annual salary in 2006 will be $600,000 with an escalation each year thereafter. All monies provided in the contract will be drawn from gate receipts, private fundraising corporate partnerships, television and radio rights fees, and Big East Conference and NCAA revenues. No Education and General Fund (state) monies or student fees will be utilized.
Other than the addition of a $75,000 incentive for a BCS bowl appearance, the incentives portion of the contract remains unchanged.
The new terms also increase the buyout of the contract. If Coach Leavitt resigns his position between the effective date and January 1, 2008, the buyout is $500,000. The buyout drops to $400,000 between January 1, 2008 and January 1, 2012. There is no buyout if the contract is terminated between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012.
“I’ve said from the very beginning that USF is one of the best coaching jobs in America,” said Leavitt. “I really feel that way. I am very fortunate to coach for USF and it’s something I will never take for granted. I appreciate both President Genshaft and (Athletics Director) Doug Woolard so much for the unending support they have shown for our program.”
Woolard said, “This extension reflects the outstanding job that Jim has done in leading our football program. He has made our program competitive in the Big East Conference and within the BCS, and we feel like the terms of this extension are consistent with his outstanding achievements. Coach Leavitt has an opportunity to build a legacy here at USF and we are pleased to support him in that endeavor.”
"We recognize how important Jim Leavitt is to the future of USF athletics," said President Judy Genshaft. "He has built this program in record time and we are happy to do everything in our power to keep him here."

Congrats to USF. Solid move to a program quickly on the rise.
Makes sense though, why leave a place where he is the man, to go somwhere mourning the loss of their man. Not to mention KSU is a shit program and won't measure up to USF from this day forward.

Congrats Mucho, he is USF football.

Truth be told, more than anything else it has a tremendous meaning for the Big East as a conference.MuchoBulls wrote:Hope that you can make it to the game Rex. It is still a meaningful game for both teams, albeit with much less significance than what it could have had.
West Virginia wins and the heat is off the Big East, for the moment. Yeah, some fans will still say the Big East doesn't deserve a team in the BCS, but West Virginia will be ranked highly enough that the BCS won't put a lot of pressure on the Big East.
If West Virginia loses, however, it's another story.
Mind you, I'm not suggesting that USF roll over for this one, but given that they're already bowl-eligible, the irony here is that it might actually be in their long-term best interests to lose this game.

If Venables has taken his name out it probably means that he didn't figure on getting the job anyway.
Considering how well they recruit Virginia hasn't impressed me that much. Ya maybe guy is a kick-ass line coach that develops guys for the NFL but his offense is nothing great and he certainly hasn't proven he can lead a whole team. WTF KSU?
I'd like to see more black HC's and maybe this guy is well-respected in coaching circles but this doesn't seem like a big hire on the surface. Knowing Groh he is probably a good recruiter, maybe KSU sees what Neb is doing in recruiting and wants to keep-up with the Joneses.
I still think they should have made a hard-run at a good non-BCS conference HC like Patterson.

I agree with the line of thinking there and it would help the Big East a ton to have WVU that high in the BCS rankings.Terry in Crapchester wrote:Mind you, I'm not suggesting that USF roll over for this one, but given that they're already bowl-eligible, the irony here is that it might actually be in their long-term best interests to lose this game.
The one thing that could really hurt USF is if UConn beats Louisville because then the Meineke Bowl more than likely would take UConn and USF could be left out in the cold of a bowl game.

If ND and tOSU get the at-large BCS bowl bids, you're in regardless of what happens to UConn. The Big East would have a surplus of bowl-eligible teams if UConn wins, and the Big Ten would be one short. In that case, the Motor City Bowl bid goes to the Big East.MuchoBulls wrote:I agree with the line of thinking there and it would help the Big East a ton to have WVU that high in the BCS rankings.Terry in Crapchester wrote:Mind you, I'm not suggesting that USF roll over for this one, but given that they're already bowl-eligible, the irony here is that it might actually be in their long-term best interests to lose this game.
The one thing that could really hurt USF is if UConn beats Louisville because then the Meineke Bowl more than likely would take UConn and USF could be left out in the cold of a bowl game.
The logical thing, in that case, would be for USF to go to the Meineke Car Care Bowl and UConn to go to the Motor City Bowl, but then again, UConn went there last year.
