ACC/Big 10 Challenge Thread

Post by Shine »

Well the ACC has won this thing all 6 times, the last 2 not even being close. This year the slate expands to 11 games with the ACC growing. With the ACC somewhat down this year and the B10 back on their way up, it's do or die time for the B10 to win or else they may just want to scrap this thing.

VaTech at tO$U- Buckeyes with Thad "shoulda been IU's coach" Matta too much at home for improved Hokies. B10 up 1-0

Wisconsin at Wake- Should be a very even matchup but gotta give the edge to the home team here, plus Bucky tends to struggle some out the gate. Tied 1-1

Purdue at FSU- Too many losses for PU, though the game should stay close. ACC up 2-1

Clemson at PSU- Maybe it's the B10 honk in me but I'm going with the Lions here. Tied 2-2

Illinois at UNC- Arguably the biggest dropoff for a title game "rematch" ever, but the Illini kept more weapons. B10 up 3-2

Miami at scUM- Amaker is the only coach that can make Mike Davis look good, but even he can't screw up this much talent can he?? Miami is tough but going with the home team. B10 up 4-2

GaTech at MSU- Sparties are bouncing back nicely from their cramp filled shocker. B10 up 5-2

Minny at Maryland- Terps won't lose this one in the cable box to a road suspect team. B10 up 5-3

Northwestern at UVA- NW is a much tougher team than most realize, but hard to call the road W here. B10 up 5-4

Dook at IU- Have I mentioned that I hate Mike Davis. Tied 5-5

NC St at Iowa- Alford actually has a squad this year. B10 wins 6-5

I'm sure I'll be wrong yet again, but I'm picking the B10 to finally win this thing in a close one. As always there are some swing games in here that could tip this to the ACC or give the B10 a larger victory.

Not sold on that Iowa team nor am I on MSU. Those are the only two that I have seen play this year, so my knowledge is limited.

Having said that I will go with the ACC by 7-4.

That sounds about right. Duke-Indiana is the most intriguing of the matchups. I'm with Shine, the ACC is down...I wouldn't be shocked if the Big Ten win 5 or 6 of these games. It's not like Big Ten has taken a step up though...you've got a lot of good teams but not any great teams, even Duke. None of the games are sure things on paper.

Good start by Big 10 in Ohio State beating VT. Anyone who beats Greenberg is ok in my book.

Talk about a tale of two halves....

Glad to see the Bucks hold on for the win. Hopefully these guys will learn how to play 40 minutes soon. It's almost cost them two games.

Good start for the Big Ten. I think it will be 3-3 after tonight. I want to see the Big Ten down 5-4 going into the final two games on Wednesday night.... then beat Duke and N.C. State for the crown.... finally.

3-3 with 5 games to go.

Looks like the Indiana/Duke game will decide it.

Looks like UNC isn't going to suck too bad afterall. They'll be downright scary next year.

Awww shit, why do we have to go through this year after year? Can't we just admit they are better than us. Even when it is close and we have chance we blow it.

They're better than us in November. We're better than them in March.

Did North Carolina join the Big Ten recently? In the last 15 years or so, the Big Ten has two championships (Michigan in '89 and State a few years back). During that time in the ACC, Duke and Carolina have won multiple titles and Maryland also has a title in there if you need 'em.

What a great game Duke/IU was. I thought when IU went on the 11-0 run to go up by one, that Duke had run out of gas, but Redick proved why he is one of the Top 3 players in the country. Killingsworth is a mother fucking manchild. How in the hell did Auburn let him go? That guy has the biggest lower body I have ever seen this side of Tractor Traylor. He has touch and can shoot the J.

Duke had no answer for Killingsworth inside. I noticed close to the end of the game though, he was putting the ball on the floor out on the perimeter and Duke got some easy turnovers.

Killingsworth is one of most physically imposing players in college hoops I can ever remember. Does he have only one year of eligibility left?

You're going to find, that whenever Dook actually plays a team with a center - or a dude who can act like a center (Killingsworth) up against Williams, the Devils will mostly pray that Reddick saves their asses. That happened vs. IU. (Plus, IU missed a ton of shots that last few minutes)

Last year, vs. MSU (when it mattered) Dook ran up against a center, (Paul Davis) AND Reddick got punked by Ager and Brown. (The Ager dunk over his faggot ass, is still a thing to behold, peeps.) The rest of that shitty squad is mediocre at best. Iu couldn't stop JJ. It was that simple.

In due time, fellas. In DUE time.

They don't win 'em all..........but they sure as hell win a ton of them, no matter how crappy you think they are. Somehow, maybe it's just me, but I think they'll win a few this year too. Nice dunk, Mo...almost as good as Nelson's.

Paul Davis isnt a real center. He looks like George McFly.

time for it to become either the ACC/Big East Challenge or ACC/Challenge...

7 years of plungering is enough for me...although Rack tOSU for getting a gritty win I guess...

Matta's Mob will be downright scary in 07 (I figure they get at least 1 yr out of Cook and Oden) plus hopefully OJ Mayo comes the buckeyes way...

congrats ACCer's...

Blind while the ACC has won it all multiple times I do remember the Big 10 I think between 99-01 or something putting 7 or 8 of the Final Four there over that 3 or 4 year period...I know in 99 it was MSU and tOSU in 00 it was MSU and Wisconsin I believe...then in 02 it was IU right??? aw fuck who cares...

Yeah exactly, awww fuck who cares lets just stick to football and stop calling this a challenge. It's like calling ND vs Navy a football rivalry.

I can't believe people actually care about the results of this "event". The Big Ten more than holds its own in March. That's all that matters.

Props to the ACC for once again taking the Challenge. Things are more back to normal though with the 1 game victory, how it was in the start and a FAR cry from the past two years woodshed beatings.

Props to Mustang for hooking me up with tix so I could watch IU blow the challenge for the B10 in person.
