Yes, USC is very, very good. They have been for 1 and a half years now, with a chance to repeat as National Champs this year.

However...

Norm Chow isn't there anymore. Does this not worry ANY USC fans? It's not like Tejas is a weak squad. Yes, you beat Oklahoma last year, and they weren't weak either. In fact, personally, last year's Oklahoma team was better than this year's Tejas team, IMHO.

BUT

Norman Chow has taken his mind to Tennessee. Texas won't have to stop his offense. Just his players. I think that they can. (I'm gonna go and brush my teeth now...)

Thoughts?

Like Killian so correctly stated USC's current offense is loaded with players and coaches who are now running on Norm Chow auto pilot.

The real effect of his absence won't be felt for a year or two when there aren't the Matt Leinarts and Dwayne Jarretts playing there anymore.

I agree with you though that last year's OU team was better than this year's Texas team. Last year's SC defense wasn't nearly as banged up though the way this year's squad is but our offense is even better this year...

i'm not going to badmouth UT as a team (as an unfortunate existential condition, that goes without saying).....but i would not be surprised to see them win it.

it was on Decemebr 27th, 2004 in Norman, Oklahoma i ate at Bob's BBQ in the old Ramada Inn on !-25 with the pops. the ribs and fried okra were outstanding. we got an order of brisket for the old man's wifey.....that too we ate a decent portion of. on the way out a couple OU players were smoove-talking a couple waitstaff and the cashier. and i overheard one of them say: "Party?, hell yeah. coach says we can do what we want in Miami....."

true or not, it was at that point walking into the parking lot, i thought OU would lose. (Arkie, 77:UW in 1984, for you Soonerphiles).

SC has been there. i'll repeat what i;ve said before. UT has not played a 4 quarter game except maybe ATM...since tOSU.

I think UT can win, but i don't think they've seen anything like the way SC will be able to throw the ball down the field.

I will give you Peterson being better than Charles and Taylor but Vince is much more dangerous than White was because he can both pass and run. The Texas Oline is much better than the Sooner line was last year. I'm not sure who has the better receivers but last year the OU receivers didn't perform very well and this year the Texas receivers have been great.

Defensively, OU had some big names and some good players but I feel pretty confident Texas is every bit their equal this year and in some ways better especially in the secondary where OU was very week while our secondary is the strength of the defense.

I wouldn't consider OU's team from last year to be better either.

Vince is in a different league than White IMO. White couldn't carry his team to victory in Columbus like Vince did. Plus Vince gives Texas the running-threat that keeps drives going and burns clock.

national championships is not scoreboard in the past, national championships is scoreboard in the present.

i disagree with Danimal that White could not have beat tOSU in Columbus. he may not have, OK? but to say he couldn't is flat wrong. he's got more wins over ranked teams than VY. he also never lost to Texas.

I've said more than once i'm impressed with this Texas team....but outside Ohio State they've played a VERY soft schedule.....given the Big XII this year.

Dumb post, Vince has come a LONG way since then. His passing game has progressed considerably. In 03 Vince was a glorified running back, in 04 some progress but still folks thought he may have to switch positions to play pro, in 05 his pass-efficiency rating is killer and there is much talk of him leaving early to play qb at the next level.

That being the case, no, my post wasn't dumb. Vince Young couldn't lead Texas to a win over a White led OU. That's a fact. In fact, he couldn't even lead Texas to a single point against a defense USC completely shredded to the tune of 50+.

There's no way for you to know whether or not OU and White could've gone into Columbus and won. The evidence definitely says they could've, since you only won 25-22 and White's OU teams thoroughly dominated you. Moreover, last year you had Cedric Benson and an actual running game that wasn't completely reliant on the QB for all its rushing yards...

White is a better thrower than Young and Adrian Peterson is a better runner than Young. OU likely beats OSU in that game too...

Doesn't matter. Vince Young couldn't beat White and that's the crux of this biscuit...

The point was about where Young is NOW. Ya White was a better qb when they played last year. Young was still very much a work in progress then. He is a much-improved qb now. Young has become the true dual-threat qb many thought he couldn't become and I bet even OU fans would admit they'd take Young over the gimpy-kneed White.

VY is a totally different Qb than last year. He was benched 2 times, looked horrible, this year, he had his break out season.

Well, it helps a lot that all of his guys are big or fast, or don't have to do their own homework.

EVERYONE is big or fast in the NFL, and there ain't no term papers involved.

This means that Vince won't pass for shit in the bigs.
His form is poor.
Bad putting stroke = missed putts.

Not only that, but one of his long legs is likely to get SNAPPED.

I've got no qualms giving VY his due. He is a supreme college qb. He throws like a sissy however and will not be a qb at the next level. Anyone can see his game is great for the B12, but not the right skill set for the NFL. This should be good news for Texfan as it likely means he comes back next season.

Did a Tejas fan REALLY just say this? Considering that it's pretty much YOU that cares, that's really ironic. Talking all that smack about Jason White and how his pro career turned out... At least he has a Heisman. :D

Vince Young's passes will ALL get batted down in the pros. College linemen are damn near doing it. Hell, Kelly Gregg's 5/8 ass could bat Vince's passes down.

Vince is a GREAT college player. He's NOT a great passer, but his legs make him a better passer than he actually is, and, whether or not I like it, that counts too. Having said that, he's NOT anybody's pocket passer and he's not gonna play QB in the pros... or, rather, the pro training camp he gets "invited" to.

All the passes?? I don't think that I have ever seen a player get EVERY pass knocked down. Funny thing is, he very seldom gets a ball batted. I seem to remember another QB with a "sissy" motion who had a pretty nice career and he couldn't run worth a shit. Thanks Bernie for the memories.
